Cooper would take the place of Leonardo DiCaprio, who ended up passing on the project after a deal could not be reached. Del Toro will direct the pic and co-wrote the script with Kim Morgan. “Nightmare Alley” is being produced and financed by del Toro and J. Miles Dale with TSG Entertainment, with Fox Searchlight acquiring worldwide distribution rights to the film. While Fox made a “Nightmare Alley” movie in 1947, this film will be based moreso on the William Lindsay Gresham novel of the same name. The 1947 movie starred Tyrone Power as an ambitious young con-man who teams up with a female psychiatrist who is even more corrupt than he is. At first, they enjoy success fleecing people with their mentalist act, but then she turns the tables on him, out-manipulating the manipulator. Maybe del Toros wasn't capable of doing it. For me it's typical del Toro and it's one of his biggest problems: he said one thing and is doing the exact opposite. But I have to say I trust Leo 100% when it comes to choosing movie projects wisely Even if that mean we have to wait of them a "little". But boy, please don't waste your precious 40s with doing nothing (again) P.S.: Can't believe some people truly believe he passed the project because of money. oxford25 Posted June 15, 2019 Share Posted June 15, 2019 Jade As always only Leo and parties involved know why the Nightmare Alley project didn't come to be, but , like you , as has been shown in the past , if Leo has a passion for a project he will agree to upfront pay cut as typically Leo , like most A list actors, takes less upfront and then makes deals for back end money when the profits come in.
