Also, perhaps Leo playing Rick Dalton again?   :idk:

https://www.theinsneider.com/p/leonardo-dicaprio-david-fincher-brad-pitt-once-upon-a-time-in-hollywood-sequel

Hey there, gang!

I wasn’t planning to post this afternoon, but this is “Drop Everything” news.

For weeks, I’ve been holding a story about David Fincher reteaming with Brad Pitt on a mysterious Netflix movie, which I alluded to on Twitter back on March 19.

At the time, I was told it was a sequel to a movie that Fincher didn’t direct.

Sure enough, today, The Playlist broke the news that the project is, in fact, a sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

I’m told this is correct — and that Tarantino himself wrote the script.

If you’ll recall, Tarantino struck a unique deal with Sony for OUATIH — one that saw him retain certain rights, with the copyright reverting to him after 20 years or so.

I’m betting that deal involved Tarantino hanging on to sequel and spinoff rights.

So, now that The Playlist has let the cat out of the bag, I’m told that Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio is also in talks to join Pitt and Fincher.

Netflix is negotiating his deal right now, and it’s taking longer than expected, which may be why The Playlist deemed his appearance “doubtful.”

Apparently, DiCaprio is a little hesitant to sign on for a small role in what is, effectively, a Cliff Booth movie — much to Fincher, Pitt, and Netflix’s great annoyance. Sure, the focus may be shifting from Leo’s Rick Dalton to Pitt’s character, but I doubt DiCaprio is going to leave those guys hanging.

I’m told that Fincher plans to start production this summer, as his Squid Game series remains in development. Dennis Kelly (Utopia) is writing that one, but he isn’t known as the fastest writer, and that left Fincher with a hole in his schedule.

When Tarantino approached him about taking the reins of this project, he was willing to put aside Bitterroot, the Western he was planning to make.

Separately, I understand that DiCaprio still hasn’t closed his deal for an Evel Knievel movie at Netflix. His team continues to negotiate with Paramount, but that Damien Chazelle movie could be in jeopardy if the two sides can’t come to an agreement.

Who knows if incoming Paramount boss David Ellison is even a fan of Evel Knievel?

The Evel Knievel movie is the kind of expensive, auteur-driven project that has started to scare certain studios given all the executive drama surrounding Warner Bros. and its slate, which includes an expensive ($140 million), auteur-driven DiCaprio movie from director Paul Thomas Anderson.

However, Fincher is the golden goose at Netflix, which would have no problem writing a check to secure DiCaprio’s services for a OUATIH sequel, especially since The Playlist reports that Netflix paid $20 million for Tarantino’s script.

So yes, Fincher’s film is more like a Cliff Booth spinoff than a proper sequel, and should DiCaprio’s deal make, he’d likely take on a small role. This isn’t going to be a buddy picture.

Furthermore, Fincher isn’t getting — and didn’t ask for — the IMAX treatment that Greta Gerwig is getting for her Narnia movie. Fincher doesn’t care about a theatrical release and is fine with the film debuting on Netflix.

Like anyone with a semblance of taste, Tarantino is said to be a big fan of Fincher, and I understand that Fincher’s assassin thriller The Killer is Tarantino’s favorite film of the last few years. It’s certainly the one I watched more than any other in 2023.

As for Fincher’s other projects, I’m told he’s no longer involved in the Chinatown prequel that had been percolating at Netflix, where he’s also developing a project with Gone Girl scribe Gillian Flynn under his first-look deal.

He looks good but I wish if he starts to think of changing his black clothes..I mean the colours may affect the look of people.  The black makes him looks like a depressed guy. He needs a new stylist to help him to choose better colours to suits him.

What I like about it is the fact Leo would finally working with Fincher even though he isn't at his top game anymore imo. I think his last really good movie is "Gone Girl" but haven't seen his netflix movies The Killer nor Mank to be fair. But his collaborations with Pitt are legendary (Se7en, Fight Club, Benjamin Button *chefs kiss).

According to TheSneider Leo would "only" appear in a small cameo and Margot is also interested in returning.

The InSneider additionally reports that Leonardo DiCaprio might appear in a small cameo. Margot Robbie is interested in returning as well.

Also this

I also wasn't aware the Evel Knievel movie is for netflix!?

Some tibits from people who've seen OBAA via goldderby.

Also seems like Regina Hall has a very small role (5 minutes screen time), Teyana is "only" supporting, same for Penn, Del Toro and basically everyone else expect Leo.

Leonardo DiCaprio Plays Drug and Booze-Addled Revolutionary in Crazy CinemaCon Footage for PTA’s ‘One Battle After Another’

Leonardo DiCaprio hit CinemaCon on Tuesday to debut a new look at Paul Thomas Anderson‘s “One Battle After Another,” an $130 million adaptation of a Thomas Pynchon novel that’s one of those big, bold bets that studios rarely make anymore. It’s the first time DiCapro and Anderson have ever collaborated — DiCaprio almost starred in Anderson’s breakout “Boogie Nights,” but left the project to appear in “Titanic,” and the rest, as they say, is history.

“I’ve been wanting to work with Paul for, gosh, 20 years now,” DiCaprio said. “With this film he’s tapped into something politically and culturally that’s burning beneath our psyche.”

DiCaprio went on to promise that the film unspools on an “incredibly epic scale.” In that spirit, Anderson directed the film in VistaVision for Imax.

The film finds DiCaprio playing a hard-living revolutionary who is trying to rescue his kidnapped daughter. In off-beat, often hilarious footage shared at CinemaCon by DiCaprio and his co-stars Regina Hall and Teyana Taylor, DiCaprio’s character struggles to remember the password that will bring a group of radicals to his assistance.

“I fried my brain,” DiCaprio admits on a phone call with an operative. “I have abused drugs and alcohol for the past 30 years. I am a drug and alcohol lover.”

But the voice on the other end of the line isn’t sympathetic, telling DiCaprio’s character that he’s being too aggressive and is making him feel unsafe because his raised voice is giving him “noise triggers.”

“This is not the way revolutionaries do shit,” DiCaprio says in frustration.

“One Battle After Another” boasts a top-shelf cast. Sean Penn co-stars as the film’s main villain, a steely-eyed colonel who looked pretty frigging scary in the footage, while Benicio del Toro is DiCaprio’s gun-toting, gonzo comrade. Newcomer Chase Infiniti rounds out the cast. The project has been shrouded in secrecy — Warner Bros., the studio behind the film, didn’t even reveal its title until a few weeks ago.

“One Battle After Another” has attracted a great deal of media attention for its budget, a massive figure for a movie that doesn’t feature superheroes or space battles. None of Anderson’s films have ever grossed anywhere close to what is being spent on “One Battle After Another,” though many are considered to be among the greatest movies ever made. DiCaprio’s box office track record is enviable, however. In the past, he’s turned challenging fare like “The Revenant” and “The Wolf of Wall Street” into unlikely financial hits.

There’s certainly about 1,000 times the action of Anderson’s “There Will Be Blood.” The latest trailer overflows with car chases, machine gun battles, Swat teams kicking down doors and one stressed out DiCaprio.

“Don’t fucking panic,” DiCaprio says at the end of the trailer. “Keep your shit together.”

“One Battle After Another” was originally slated to debut this summer, but Warner Bros. recently moved the film from August 8 to September 26, 2025, where it will be more likely to be part of the awards conversation.

Apparantly Leo met with Tarantino recently (leoandhismodels posted a sighting but I didn't save it). Maybe they discussed the possibilities of Leos return as Rick Dalton? Even if Tarantino won't direct the movie I guess he's still very much involved in the whole process since he wrote the script etc

Love this poster.

Maybe Leo won't do it anyway, Cliff and Rick were going separate ways at the end Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, plus the movie focus is Cliff, so...

I honestly hope Leo doesn't go for it. Even though I loved OUATIH, but I don't think Leo will be in it and as you said, the focus will be on Cliff.

Oh boy. Can he just go back to wrestling, pls?

Dwayne Johnson is Co-Writing Martin Scorsese's Hawaiian Crime Epic

I had to triple-check this story before writing anything about it, but it appears to be accurate. Dwayne Johnson is set to co-write Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Hawaiian crime epic, which will star Johnson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Emily Blunt in the lead roles.

Johnson is co-writing the screenplay with Vanity Fair journalist Nick Bilton. The two are also collaborating on a nonfiction book about the Hawaii crime syndicate that operated in the 1960s and 1970s, which the film will adapt. The organization, known as The Company, was led by Wilford “Nappy” Pulawa — the first and only Hawaiian mob boss in history.

“This isn’t just a gangster story—it’s about power, identity, and what was taken from the Hawaiian people,” Johnson explained in a statement. He and Bilton have acquired a trove of documents that will shed new light on Pulawa’s life and legacy. “There are many months of work ahead of us,” Johnson added.

It sounds like Scorsese’s film is still in the very early stages of development, as both the book and an extensive amount of research need to be completed before the script can be finalized. A shoot likely won’t begin until sometime after 2026.

Well, he's Hawaian, he might know a bit about this story...
