Naturally disappointed to miss out on the likes of Maradona and er, Alan Curbishley but all jesting aside, I suppose I'm satisfied. No doubting that Houllier is a marquee name and he doesn't strike me as a joy rider, which is important. Obviously we need to see the fine print, such as the contract and whether Kevin MacDonald is staying on in some capacity (I hope he does), too. Needless to say before the deal was even done I received a snooty e-mail saying "Is Biscan still playing?" Tehehe (please no).

Baron, its hard to believe your amiable, rib tickling posts haven't enticed blackrain to your fun filled profile page. Oh the enigma of it all! I must say, I've been meaning to make this thread for a while. I was reminded of its absolute necessity a few nights ago when I heard grunge heroes Soundgarden's comeback single. The name of the song? Black Rain. What could this all mean?

Surely I'm not alone in wanting to know much, much more about this potentially compelling character. Regular BZ profile hawks may have seen this mysterious member silently observing them and I for one can't take the intrigue any longer! I must know more about you, blackrain! You're in for a treat. Gimme Fiction is possibly their crowning glory but a case can be made for virtually all of their releases. Whatever your entry point, it just works.

I'm pleased to hear that, this album seemed to disappear from conversation in a hurry, I think in part because their consistency is sort of taken for granted.

To be honest, and remember this is just my silly little opinion, I don't want anyone we've been linked with. Now this isn't to say that Martin's boots are too big to fill per se but looking around, I feel its slim pickings out there. And to show my self-awareness, yes I realise we're "just" Villa but I think its more a case of unfortunate timing. Good managers are usually unavailable in August (shock horror!) and with us belt tightening, I can see the job being a wee bit off putting to some. Frankly, the idea of an almost wholly unknown quantity like Bob Bradley terrifies me. At the World Cup he looked a complete tactical lightweight and seemed to insist certain rubbish players always played. Now Martin refused to play a recognised right-back for two years but still, he was mostly astute on the big matters. So in summary: Kevin MacDonald. Why not?
