  6. Also no one cares for the oscars anymore. This show is just a joke. I think this has indeed something to do with the pandemic. People realized what's important to them (for sure not the oscars lol) and how fast you can loose it. So you focus more on the important things in life especially now where the memory of the pandemic is still fresh. Personally I went A LOT more into cinema before the pandemic as I do these days. And I love cinema. I just don't like to sit between a sneezy folk anymore. Also most movies I saw at the cinema this year weren't really good. But maybe that was just my bad.
  7. Not about Leo but since Leo is playing mostly in so called "oscar movies" I thought it's an interesting take. Also KOFTM will probably show if "post pandemic" Leo still has his box office power as the last movie star who can actually get adults to see adult dramas at the theater. And looking at the budget of this movie it has to make some money LOL The โ€œOscar Movieโ€ is Dying Steven Spielbergโ€™s โ€œThe Fabelmansโ€ has bombed at the box-office. This coming after the filmmakerโ€™s โ€œWest Side Storyโ€ garnered the same fate last year, which begs me to ask the question: if Spielberg canโ€™t even bring people to a movie theatre anymore, then who can? I imagine Martin Scorsese, Wes Anderson, Christopher Nolan and Quentin Tarantino can still pull it off, but these four directors are now part of a dying breed. What the post-pandemic theatrical era has done to adult dramas is absolutely brutal. There are so many factors that have contributed to the demise of critically-acclaimed films at the box office, one of which is older moviegoers learning how to stream and purchase films via the comfort of their own homes. Iโ€™m still struck by how fast this change has happened. Movie theaters are turning primarily into, as Scorsese pointed out a few years back, theme park rides. What weโ€™ve learned this year is that the younger crowd will still purchase a ticket for the token Marvel, Pixar, sequel packages, but thatโ€™s about it. Youโ€™ll have the odd โ€œElvisโ€ phenomenon, but one look at this yearโ€™s 10 highest-grossing movies and they are all superhero movies and/or blockbuster sequels. The result is a fall movie season that has manifested the total disinterest of mature moviegoers, who are now unwilling to watch any of the well-reviewed/Oscar contenders. The list keeps piling up: โ€œTillโ€ ($8.6 million total), โ€œThe Banshees of Inisherinโ€ ($7.8 million), โ€œTรRโ€ ($5.1 million), โ€œShe Saidโ€ ($4.2 million), โ€œTriangle of Sadnessโ€ ($4 million), โ€œBones and Allโ€ ($3.7 million), โ€œThe Fabelmansโ€ ($3.4 million), โ€œArmageddon Timeโ€ ($1.8 million), โ€œAftersunโ€ ($790,000). Itโ€™s come to the point where a critically-acclaimed foreign film like โ€œDecision to Leave,โ€ which grossed just $1.7 million, becomes heralded as a resounding success. It gets worse. One of the last remaining Oscar hopefuls, Damien Chazelleโ€™s โ€œBabylon,โ€ is currently tracking at terrifyingly low numbers. The film is said to have a budget of around $90-100 million, and if it fails then this could be Chazelleโ€™s โ€œHeavenโ€™s Gateโ€ โ€” a passion project that ultimately leads to a total revamping of the industry. The hopeful one in me wants to believe that this has just been a weak year at the movies (it has) and that things will get back into place next year, but who am I kidding? Almost every single one of the above titles is now available to stream on VOD, not even a month after they were released. Itโ€™s now become a profitable business for studios. Itโ€™s sure as hell better than keeping these films in theaters where they would most likely go through a slow and gloomy death. Weโ€™re now seeing a grim future for โ€œcinemaโ€ at the movie theater. Prestige movies will remain, but in a different kind of form. We are about to enter the era of quality American moviemaking being driven by the likes of Apple, Netflix and Amazon. All of these streamers will continue producing top-notch content, screen them for a week in theaters (for the sake of Oscar eligibility) and then have them available in their platforms, for subscribers, a few weeks later. As studios are hysterically looking for answers to these miserable numbers, the obvious has been right in front of them this entire time. During these last three years, the pandemic forced studios to stream much of their new content. Many moviegoers realized just how much more comfortable, and less headache-inducing, it was to stream at home than to go to the local cineplex. You can now just stay in, save money, and not endure any of the annoyances that come with watching a movie in public โ€” who wants someone texting and talking right next to them during a movie? Itโ€™s obvious, just looking at the ratings, that thereโ€™s an absolute disconnect between mainstream moviegoing and the Oscars. Despite critical acclaim and Oscar nominations, these films just arenโ€™t that widely seen anymore. It used to be, at least in the โ€˜90s and โ€˜00s, that if you were a major Oscar contending movie then audiences would want to seek you out. Not anymore. Most of the country couldnโ€™t care less about what critics or Oscar voters believe to be the worthiest achievements and itโ€™s not going to get better, only worse. Source
  8. A little KOTFM update. If true and Marty got "cold feet" I'm wondering what's going on with this movie. I canโ€™t mention what the actual Apple strategy is concerning their awards season slate but I will tell you that they expected โ€œKillers of the Flower Moonโ€ to be their main horse until Marty got cold feet. This led them to have numerous meetings about what the plan was for awards season campaigning. They had originally hoped for Ridley Scottโ€™s โ€œNapoleonโ€ to crash the race but that plan lasted around a week. They finally decided on โ€œEmancipationโ€ with โ€œCha Cha Real Smoothโ€ as their backup plan. What I will say is that for all the glowing enthusiasm Apple has had for โ€œEmancipation,โ€ a person I spoke to tells me itโ€™s just not a good movie. Will Smithโ€™s acting is very hammy and the direction incredibly choppy. I was told that it goes from one episode to the next in very abrupt fashion. Iโ€™m here to tell you this one isnโ€™t going anywhere, Apple wishes it were but forget about it. Dead on arrival. In fact, thatโ€™s been the word around the campfire amongst industry people for a few weeks now. Apple should have dumped the movie in early 2023 and just embraced the suck. Source But to trust in Will Smith again after the last disastrous award season is an even bigger riddle to me LOL
  9. No clue who this guy is but I take a Leo win when I see one lol (also Day Lewis overrated ass only gettin 9%? lmao)

  13. One of Laineys better articles. I agree in most points with her - especially how the story of Titanic is Roses story not Jacks and Leos try to make the character more troubled because Jack wasn't "interesting" enough is just the proof Leo maybe didn't get the point of the FEMALE centered story here... ... until he apparently did. I also wish Leo would work more with women in front of the camera like he does as producer but that's just me crying on a very high level lol How Leo become Jack James Cameronโ€™s Avatar: The Way of Water is opening in three weeks. Promotion for the movie is now underway. He was just featured in a GQ profile that called him the โ€œBox Office Kingโ€ and also did an interview with them to break down his most iconic films. The first one that comes to mind for most, of course, is Titanic. When people are calling you the โ€œBox Office Kingโ€, it has to be an ego boost. At this point I think itโ€™s well known, the size of James Cameronโ€™s ego. If you werenโ€™t aware of his massive ego reputation, read the GQ piece, thatโ€™ll give you some idea. The reason Iโ€™m talking about Jamesโ€™s ego is because you have to keep that in mind when youโ€™re considering what he says about Leonardo DiCaprio during his discussion with GQ about casting Leo in Titanic. The video is below, start at the 1:50 mark: So basically James says that Leo comes in, with a young punk ego, and tells James, who has an even bigger ego, that he doesnโ€™t audition. And James was like, well then close the door behind you because you canโ€™t be in my movie if you donโ€™t read for the part. Basically James wants us to know what a f-cking boss he is and is sharing this story about Leo having a suck attack to puff himself up. Everybody comes out of this looking like a megalomaniac but at least itโ€™s good gossip. Iโ€™m less interested in Leoโ€™s audition though as I am in the part where James reveals that Leo came to him with notes on his character. โ€œMy dad and I have been talking about this script and we think it needs this and this and thisโ€ฆโ€ LOL FOREVER at โ€œmy dad and Iโ€. Can you picture it? He would have been maybe 21/22 or so at the time, and no doubt, at this point in his career heโ€™d already delivered some excellent performances, but imagine stepping up to someone as self-important as James and telling him how he and his dad could improve on his script. Itโ€™s a dick fight but James here turns it into an opportunity to tell us about how great he is at helping actors shape their performances. And it is interesting what he says about Leo needing to give his character some kind of โ€œafflictionโ€ because it wasnโ€™t enough, Leo didnโ€™t find Jack Dawson interesting enough if Jack wasnโ€™t in some kind of pain. James eventually, according to James at least, was able to convince Leo otherwise and explain to him the challenge of playing a character without baggage. Or maybe itโ€™s that Leoโ€™s character wasnโ€™t actually the main character? Thatโ€™s what James doesnโ€™t say โ€“ probably because heโ€™s focused on making the anecdote about himself โ€“ but the main character of Titanic is Rose. It's Rose who needs to find herself on that boat. Itโ€™s Rose who needs to figure out that she wants a life thatโ€™s different from what is planned for her. Rose is the character with baggage, Jack is there to drive HER story. And we donโ€™t need Jack to have any baggage for the story to work. But that was the role that made Leonardo DiCaprio, the superstar. Yes, for sure, he was doing great work prior to Titanic but it is undebatable that Titanic was the gamechanger. It is a huge movie. It is an iconic movie. Everyone has seen this movie, like eight times. Titanic took him to another level. So whatโ€™s been the effect of this movie and this character in particular on how Leo has managed his career choices since, in the context of Jack being a secondary role, a role that only exists to service the main female character? Has it ever happened again? Source
