Russia is not a major threat to the West, but nor is it a global superpower. I'll reiterate, their so called sphere of influence is nothing more than a myth.

Their sphere of influence is insignificant because they are economically weak. SO whenever there is a serious conflict of interest between Russia and the west, the latter almost inevitably seek to punish them through economic sanctions. Russia do have a strong military +nukes though, so bombing them is out of the question. If they werent so, the west would have wiped them out long ago like it did Iraq, Libya.
China is a real superpower btw. With their 12 trillion dollar economy and military might, they can neither be economically sanctioned nor militarily engaged without catastrophic consequences for the western powers themselves.
