  3. More results! Group Stage Group 61: Izabel Goulart (87.1%) defeated Yasmin Brunet (12.9%) Izabel Goulart advances to the Knockout Stage Group 47: Michelle Lombardo (52.2%) defeated Kim Alexis (47.8%) Michelle Lombardo advances to the Knockout Stage Group 73: Jarah Mariano (58.4%) defeated Yasmeen Ghauri (41.6%) Jarah Mariano advances to the Knockout Stage Group 26: Lucia Dvorska (81.1%) defeated Yvonne Sylvander (18.9%) Lucia Dvorska advances to the Knockout Stage Group 46: Crystal Renn (60.9%) defeated Vanessa Lorenzo (39.1%) Crystal Renn advances to the Knockout Stage Group 1: #1 Bar Refaeli (58.4%) defeated Tori Praver (41.6%) #1 Bar Refaeli advances to the Knockout Stage My spin: Another exciting batch of matches here, and probably most exciting was the one between defending champion, and #1 ranked, Bar Refaeli and Tori Praver. The voting was close the entire way, and Tori actually led after a couple of days. But, Bar made a late run and won going away to advance to the Knockout Stage. Bar improves to 16-1 in 17 career tournament matches, so she obviously has earned the #1 ranking. Tori Praver fell to 3-3-1 in her tournament career, which sounds pretty mediocre. Closer inspection reveals quite the contrary, though. Let’s look at Tori’s match results and vote totals: 2013 - Loss against Cintia Dicker (25.0%) 2014 - Loss against Emily Ratajkowski (48.1%) 2014 - Win against Andrea Orme (73.9%) 2014 - Draw against Hannah Ferguson (50.0%) 2014 - Win against Tyra Banks (76.9%) 2015 - Win against Jane Gill (89.0%) 2015 - Loss against Bar Refaeli (41.6%) That’s quite a showing, actually! Her three losses have come to models ranked #1, #16, and #22 in this year’s tournament, and two of them were very close losses. She played to a draw against this year’s #14 ranked model, and she convincingly beat supermodel Tyra Banks. Poor Tori Praver. Her luck has been terrible as far as drawing very difficult matches. There’s always next year, Tori! In Group 47, we had a very interesting match of big boobs vs. small boobs, as Michelle Lombardo faced off against Kim Alexis. Michelle prevailed in a very close match, and I think the takeaway here is that it hammers home the point that women can be beautiful no matter what kind of cup size they were blessed with. In Group 73, Jarah Mariano knocked out Yasmeen Ghauri quite easily. This brings me to a point about Yasmeen. Her SI photos don’t reflect what a beautiful woman Yasmeen was at the peak of her modeling career. Yasmeen was a stunningly beautiful woman. Don’t believe me? Go check out some of her catwalk videos from the early 90s. Just awesome. But, SI’s photographers did her no justice. Crystal Renn had an impressive upset victory over Vanessa Lorenzo to advance to the Knockout Stage and improve to 5-2 in her tournament career. Crystal will have her hands full in the First Round, as supermodel Stephanie Seymour awaits. Finally, Izabel Goulart and Lucia Dvorska pummeled their opponents and advanced as expected to the Knockout Stage. Current Group Stage Standings/Tables: here Current Knockout Stage Bracket: here
  4. Somehow, I neglected to post official results for a batch of six a few days ago. They were on my site in the matches list, so those curious could have gone to see these results a few days ago. But, I had never posted the official results and my commentary, of course! So, here they are! I have also updated the Group Standings and Knockout Stage brackets accordingly. Group Stage Group 43: Chrissy Teigen (53.0%) defeated Reka Ebergenyi (47.0%) Chrissy Teigen advances to the Knockout Stage Group 80: Jenna de Rosnay (69.3%) defeated Veronica Blume (30.7%) Jenna de Rosnay advances to the Knockout Stage Group 19: #19 Christie Brinkley (73.4%) defeated Cris Urena (26.6%) #19 Christie Brinkley advances to the Knockout Stage Group 79: Jessica Van Der Steen (89.6%) defeated Shirley Mallmann (10.4%) Jessica Van Der Steen advances to the Knockout Stage Group 37: Daniella Sarahyba (76.6%) defeated Jessica White (23.4%) Daniella Sarahyba advances to the Knockout Stage Group 58: Robyn Lawley (56.6%) defeated Eva Herzigova (43.4%) Robyn Lawley advances to the Knockout Stage My spin: Lots to comment on in this “forgotten” batch of results. First, let me start by acknowledging the accomplishment of rookie Robyn Lawley, who dispatched of Czech supermodel Eva Herzigova in a close match and moved on to the Knockout Stage. Personally, I don’t find Robyn very attractive, and it has nothing to do with her “plus size” categorization. I think there are 150-200 SI models that I’d vote for before her. But, this competition is about you the voters, not me, and you voted Robyn! Let me also comment on the lack of support for one of my personal favorites, Eva Herzigova. I think she’s in my top 20 favorite SI models, but she has struggled quite a bit through the three years of this tournament. She falls to 5-3-1 in her nine matches and has an AVP of just barely over 50%, and she actually finished in last place in her group this year. So, the rest of the voters clearly don’t put Eva in the class that I do. That’s what makes this fun, though! Next up for discussion: the polarizing Chrissy Teigen. Chrissy seems to have her lovers and her haters. But, there were enough lovers in the voting community to eek her past Hungarian model Reka Ebergenyi and into the Knockout Stage. In Group 80, Jenna de Rosnay continued to perform quite well in these tournaments, as she beat Veronica Blume, advanced to the Knckout Stage, and improved to 7-2 in her tournament career with an AVP of 61.0%. In Group 37, Daniella Sarahyba won the bodypaint battle against Jessica White rather easily. Daniella improved to 7-2-1 in her tournament career, and Jessica fell to a very lackluster 2-3-2 in her career. Two wins in seven career matches for someone with eight appearances in the SI Swimsuit issue! Finally, I’ll note the impressive wins by #19 Christie Brinkley and Jessica Van Der Steen. Christie’s was expected, but Jessica’s wasn’t necessarily so. Certainly, her margin of victory over a very worthy opponent is surprising. 5. Good idea, but that's essentially what the average vote percentage does. It measures their performance against the common opponents that year. I could take it a step further, as you suggest, and actually create a new match using someone's common opponent from a prior year. Sounded intriguing, but then I got to thinking about it: Let's say this happened with Amber and Monika, as it did. To create a new tiebreaker match, I could create one between Amber Smith and Hina Tama, since Monika had faced Hina in 2014. When fans of Monika voted, knowing it was a tiebreaker match and the implications that every vote in favor of Amber vs. Hina counts against Monika, they would vote for Hina even though they'd never actually do that if it were a "straight up" match. So, it almost becomes an "Amber vs. Monika by proxy of Hina" match.
  6. Hello. I love the new look, but there are still two big bugs that I experience: 1) Spoiler tags don't have the intended effect anymore. All they seem to do is indent the content that is contained within the spoiler tag. 2) Site performance is horribly slow and inconsistently so. Posting is a chore because of this - a good percentage of the time now, the page will sit and "spin" after hitting "Submit Reply" and you never know whether the reply posted or not until you reload the page. Then, the reload often takes 10-30 seconds to load! Not trying to pile on here, by any means. I know what a pain upgrading is for sys admins! I also throw my hat in the ring of those who would like to see previews return, too. BBCode doesn't show until you submit the post, and it was always good to preview it before to ensure the code did what you'd intend for it to do. Thanks.

  8. You don't? There have been very few of the big names knocked out so far. Julie Henderson (#23) is the only Top 25 model knocked out so far. Some of the others haven't advanced yet, but they also haven't been knocked out. My (play) money is on Nina Agdal. Secretly, I hope Dominique Piek and Vendela make deep runs, too.
  9. Today’s results are in! Group Stage Group 75: Ana Beatriz Barros (72.8%) defeated Melissa Keller (27.2%) Ana Beatriz Barros advances to the Knockout Stage Group 31: Jessica Gomes (90.1%) defeated Margaux Hemingway (9.9%) Jessica Gomes advances to the Knockout Stage Group 56: Isabeli Fontana (80.1%) defeated Suzy Smith (19.9%) Isabeli Fontana advances to the Knockout Stage Group 24: #24 Sara Sampaio (63.3%) defeated Karen Mulder (36.7%) #24 Sara Sampaio advances to the Knockout Stage Group 64: Gigi Hadid (65.1%) defeated Carol Alt (34.9%) Gigi Hadid advances to the Knockout Stage Group 70: Amber Smith & Monika Schnarre drew (50.0% each) Monika Schnarre advances to the Knockout Stage My spin: Well, we had a statistical oddity today! Monika Schnarre and Amber Smith drew in their match, so the tiebreaker was necessary to settle the Group 70 title. The tiebreaker: Average Vote Percentage. Oops! Both had identical vote percentages against Sunny Bippus, and obviously had identical percentages versus each other! So, the tiebreaker couldn’t even settle the tie. The decider ended up being random.org, and by the luck of the draw, Monika Schnarre advances to the Knockout Stage, where she’ll face the Group 18 winner: either #18 Vendela Kirsebom or Niki Taylor. Gigi Hadid won the battle of the eras, as she took care of 80’s supermodel Carol Alt in surprisingly easy fashion. In the First Round of the Knockout Stage, Gigi will have her hands full with another 80’s supermodel, Cindy Crawford. The other four winners are all legit contenders to win one or more matches in the Knockout Stage, as #24 Sara Sampaio, Isabeli Fontana, Ana Beatriz Barros, and Jessica Gomes all punched their tickets to the Knockout Stage. 10. Catching up on these results, which I tried to post during the board outage earlier... Group Stage Group 48: Melissa Haro (100.0%) defeated Sue Peterson (0.0%) Group 6: Petra Nemcova (86.5%) defeated Jessica Hart (13.5%) #6 Petra Nemcova advances to the Knockout Stage Group 72: Ariel Meredith (73.8%) defeated Kara Young (26.2%) Ariel Meredith advances to the Knockout Stage My spin: Melissa Haro earned a clean sheet against Sue Peterson, but it was for pride and ranking only, since Melissa Baker had already advanced from Group 48. #6 Petra Nemcova had a very dominant performance against a decent challenger in Jessica Hart and advances to the Knockout Stage. Finally, Ariel Meredith also punched her ticket after her victory over Kara Young. Ariel’s victory comes as no surprise given a relatively weak group, but she’ll face a tough one in her first Knockout Stage match: Lauren Mellor.

  15. Lots of results today, since I’m in the middle of catching up from my time away from the computer. Group Stage Group 78: Shana Zadrick (63.3%) defeated Chandra North (36.7%) Shana Zadrick advances to the Knockout Stage Group 39: Dominique Piek (71.5%) defeated Frankie Rayder (28.5%) Dominique Piek advances to the Knockout Stage Group 63: Ehrinn Cummings and Kelly Rohrbach drew (50.0% each) Kelly Rohrbach advances to the Knockout Stage Group 32: Cheryl Tiegs (76.6%) defeated Barbara Carrera (23.4%) Cheryl Tiegs advances to the Knockout Stage Group 76: Aurelie Claudel (65.1%) defeated Valerie van der Graaf (34.9%) Aurelie Claudel advances to the Knockout Stage Group 33: Alyssa Miller (78.4%) defeated Adaora Akubilo (21.6%) Alyssa Miller advances to the Knockout Stage My spin: Chandra North, the 34th ranked model, was upset by #118 Shana Zadrick. That marked the biggest surprise of this batch of matches. Shana will face the Group 36 winner, which will be either Kelly Emberg or Hilary Rhoda. She might just be a real sleeper pick to make it to the Sexy Sixteen, since no huge powerhouses stand in her way. The top ranked model in that subregion is #12 Daniela Pestova, and it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Shana could pull off an upset should they meet. Another result of note was a draw between Ehrinn Cummings and rookie Kelly Rohrbach, which was enough to send Kelly on to the Knockout Stage by virtue of the tiebreaker, Average Vote Percentage. Dominique Piek, a personal favorite, will also move on after an impressive performance against Frankie Rayder. Dominique’s First Round opponent will be Marloes Horst, which is no easy task. The winner of that one will face #14 Hannah Ferguson, so it gets no easier from there! Other tickets to the Knockout Stage were punched for French cutie Aurelie Claudel, sultry Alyssa Miller, and SI legend Cheryl Tiegs. The voluptuous rookie is one of my sleeper picks, and I think she can go very far in the tournament. Covergirl Lily Aldridge got knocked out of the tourney, too, after her loss to Lauren Mellor. Meanwhile, fellow covergirl Carolyn Murphy just narrowly squeaked by the very formidable Shannan Click to advance to the Knockout Stage. Similarly, Rachel Roberts lost her second close match and is eliminated, while victor Estella Warren moves on to the Knockout Stage. Finally, the heavy favorites won easily, as #13 Hannah Davis and #15 Kate Upton had no trouble with their opponents. Current Group Stage Standings/Tables: here Current Knockout Stage Bracket: here
