  1. Today’s results are in! Group Stage Group 4: Carmen Luisa Vela (54.7%) defeated Sheila Roscoe (45.3%) Group 9: Libby Otis (72.8%) defeated Barbara Minty (27.2%) Group 13: Patricia Velasquez (81.4%) defeated Carla Maria (18.6%) My spin: Carmen Luisa Vela, ranked #233 of 241 models, finally got her first win. It came at the expense of a fellow winless model, #192 Sheila Roscoe. So, good for Carmen, but the group belongs to Nina Agdal. Nina had gotten over 96% of the vote in her match against Carmen, so today’s result means that Nina’s stronghold on the group title is pretty much unbreakable. Sheila would not only need to beat Nina in their next match, but she would need to get more than 75% of the vote, too! Umm, not happening. It’s not official, so we can’t count the chickens yet, but clearly Nina Agdal will be advancing to the Knockout Stage, as everyone would have expected coming into the tournament. Libby Otis beat Barbara Minty handily and will face #9 Heidi Klum for the group title. If you believe in the transitive theory, then Libby might have a chance: her win over Barbara was by a wider margin than Heidi’s was. I don’t think that matters much, so I expect Heidi to take the crown. Finally, Patricia Veasquez got herself a convincing win, and she’ll face an uphill climb now as #13 Hannah Davis (Jeter?) awaits with the group title on the line. 3. Today’s results are in! Group Stage Group 22: Jessica Perez (93.0%) defeated Kadra Ahmed Omar (7.0%) Group 33: Adaora Akubilo (57.2%) defeated Quiana Grant (42.8%) Group 1: Tori Praver (89.0%) defeated Jane Gill (11.0%) My spin: Tori Praver rolled over Jane Gill but will have her hands full in her next match: #1 Bar Refaeli awaits, and the winner advances. Jessica Perez also had an easy time in her match, setting up a showdown with #22 Emily Ratajkowski. Finally, Adaora got herself a victory, and she still has a chance to advance if she could pull off a big upset over Alyssa Miller. 5. Today’s results are in! Group Stage Group 25: Aya Thorgren (90.1%) defeated Tanga Moreau (9.9%) Group 17: Kenza Fourati (93.4%) defeated Hina Tama (6.6%) Group 48: Melissa Baker (85.8%) defeated Sue Peterson (14.2%) My spin: Melissa Baker is the third model to advance to the Knockout Stage, as she clinched first place in her group with a huge win over Sue Peterson. Melissa joins Ana Paula Lemes and Monica Bellucci in advancing forward in the tournament. In other news, Kenza Fourati and Aya Thorgren won easily and setup showdowns for first place against #17 Genevieve Morton and #25 Rebecca Romijn, respectively. 7. Today’s results are in! Group Stage Group 14: Chanel Iman (88.3%) defeated Navia Nguyen (11.7%) Group 60: Louise Forsling (80.1%) defeated Kathryn Redding (19.9%) Group 29: May Andersen (95.6%) defeated Mary Sturdevant (4.4%) My spin: After a loss to Elsa Benitez, May Andersen took out her frustrations on poor Mary Sturdevant. May now needs to hope for the impossible: a Sturdevant over Benitez result. Louise Forsling had a convincing win over Kathryn Redding, setting up a match with Estelle Lefebure for the group title. Finally, Chanel Iman easily got past Navia Nguyen, which sets up an awesome Chanel Iman vs. Hannah Ferguson match to determine who advances to the Knockout Stage. 9. Today’s results are in! Group Stage Group 72: Ariel Meredith (78.7%) defeated Ann Simonton (21.3%) Group 18: Niki Taylor (100.0%) defeated Kay Hughes (0.0%) Group 15: Carol Latimer (66.8%) defeated Charissa Craig (33.2%) My spin: Ariel Meredith had a slow start to the voting, but she turned it on to easily beat Ann Simonton. That sets up a match with Kara Young for the group title. Niki Taylor came into the 2015 tournament having been victim to some terrible draws in previous tournaments. Her 1-4 record included losses to Molly Sims, Jessica Perez, and Laetitia Casta. She got a brief reprieve against the overmatched Kay Hughes and took advantage with a clean sheet, but that sets up another tough matchup versus #18 Vendela Kirsebom to determine who advances to the Knockout Stage. Finally, Carol Latimer won the sacrifical lamb challenge. She wins the right to be pummeled by Kate Upton next match! Current Group Stage Standings/Tables: here Current Knockout Stage Bracket: here

  11. Today’s results are in! Group Stage Group 21: Kirby Griffin (71.5%) defeated Georgianna Robertson (28.5%) Group 74: Kate Bock (75.1%) defeated Karen Alexander (24.9%) Group 50: Hailey Clauson (94.8%) defeated Vicky Howard (5.2%) My spin: Rookie Hailey Clauson was obviously expected to have no trouble with Vicky Howard, but she posted the kind of dominant score usually reserved for the highest ranked models. Does that foreshadow great things? Her next match against Kim Cloutier will be the real test. Kim also pummeled Vicky, and she’s had proven success in past tournaments. The winner will advance to the Knockout Stage. The loser is eliminated. Kate Bock easily got by Karen Alexander and setup a cracker of a match against Samantha Hoopes. I wouldn’t know how to predict this one! Same stakes, though: win or go home. Finally, Kirby Griffin had a nice win over Georgianna Robertson, setting up another group title match. But, Kirby will be the decided underdog against #21 Josie Maran. Current Group Stage Standings/Tables: here Current Knockout Stage Bracket: here

  13. Today’s results are in! Group Stage Group 55: Noemie Lenoir (73.4%) defeated Maria Von Hartz (26.6%) Group 63: Kelly Rohrbach (86.8%) defeated Lynn Brophy (13.2%) Group 47: Michelle Lombardo (68.9%) defeated Jamee Becker (31.1%) My spin: Rookie of the Year Kelly Rohrbach easily won her debut match and will face Ehrinn Cummings for the Group 63 title and right to advance to the Knockout Stage. Noemie Lenoir won easily and moved into first place in her group, but the next match against Jeisa Chiminazzo will decide the group title. Finally, Michelle Lombardo will move on to face supermodel Kim Alexis for the right to advance to the Knockout Stage. Current Group Stage Standings/Tables: here Current Knockout Stage Bracket: here

  15. Today’s results are in! Group Stage Group 80: Jenna de Rosnay (61.6%) defeated Audrey Quock (38.4%) Group 39: Frankie Rayder (75.1%) defeated Samantha Jones (24.9%) Group 46: Crystal Renn (54.0%) defeated Jessie Sanders (46.0%) Group 32: Barbara Carrera (71.5%) defeated Paula Warner (28.5%) Group 51: Monica Bellucci (56.4%) defeated Valeria Mazza (43.6%) Group 64: Carol Alt & Caprice Bourret drew (50.0% each) My spin: Monica Bellucci’s two victories are irreversible, and she becomes the second model to move on to the Knockout Stage. Her wins were both relatively close, but the wins were good enough to move her on and join Ana Paula Lemes as the only models to do so thus far. The remaining Group 51 match between Valeria Mazza and Bridget Hall is just for pride and rankings now. Congratulations, Monica! The other big news of the day was Carol Alt’s struggle with Caprice Bourret. Carol and Caprice drew, which eliminates Caprice from contention. But, Carol’s hopes are still alive. The one point from the draw is valuable, as it means that Carol can still win the group with a victory over Gigi Hadid. That one should be an interesting contrast of old-school and new-school supermodels. In other news, one of my odd personal crushes, Audrey Quock, fell again to Jenna de Rosnay. Audrey is now 0-7 in her tournament career, with an AVP in the 20’s, so I’m one of the few who really like her, I guess! Jenna’s win sets up a match with Veronica Blume for the group title. Crystal Renn struggled with Jessie Sanders but prevailed to setup a winner-to-advance match against Vanessa Lorenzo. Frankie Rayder had an easier time with Samantha Jones and will face Dominique Piek for the group title, and Barbara Carrera took care of Paula Warner and setup a group title match with the legendary Cheryl Tiegs. 18. Today’s results are in! Group Stage Group 30: Solveig Mork (80.1%) defeated Jenny Brunt (19.9%) Group 10: Dayle Haddon (54.7%) defeated Louise Vyent (45.3%) Group 11: Maria Joao (80.1%) defeated Gail O’Neill (19.9%) My spin: Rookie Solveig Mork had no trouble in her first career match, but the level of competition will go up next match when she faces Esti Ginzburg for the group title. Dayle Haddon got her third career victory with a close one over Louise Vyent, but her run will almost certainly end, as #10 Irina Shayk awaits next match. Likewise, Maria Joao’s convincing victory is nice, but #11 Paulina Porizkova will probably be too much for Maria. Current Group Stage Standings/Tables: here Current Knockout Stage Bracket: here
  19. SI's Swim Daily site is pretty damn horrible since Kelsey Hendrix started taking over all posts about 6+ months ago. Terrible grammar, writing, content, etc. They used to have never before seen photos posted. Now, it's the same recycled crap. I'll rant more some day on my blog. For now, I present Exhibit A from Kelsey Merritt's casting call article: "Next up is Kelsey Merritt, a beautiful native of the Philippians" WTF? Was Kelsey H. being biblical? Wow. For the record, I give my thumbs up to both Mayra and Kelsey M.

Tyra Banks rebounded from a loss against Stephanie Seymour to knock off Apollonia van Ravenstein. Finally, Shakara Ledard rode her ample nipples to a victory over Annie Morton, setting up a match with Cindy Crawford for the group title. 23. Today’s results are in! Group Stage Group 45: Juliana Martins (85.8%) defeated Amber Noelle Ehresmann (14.2%) Group 3: Renee Simonsen (86.8%) defeated Kathy Loghry (13.2%) Group 58: Robyn Lawley (55.1%) defeated Irina Gerasimenko (44.9%) My spin: Irina Gerasimenko had an unexpected draw in her first match against supermodel Eva Herzigova, but she couldn’t capitalize on that performance in her second match against rookie Robyn Lawley. Robyn prevailed and knocked out Irina. That’ll setup a match against Eva, and the winner will advance to the Knockout Stage. Renee Simonsen exploted a favorable matchup against the tournament’s lowest ranked model, Kathy Loghry. It’s nice to have the win, but the positives are likely to end there as “The Body” looms in the next match. Juliana Martins took care of business against Amber Noelle Ehresmann, setting up a win-or-go-home match against Michelle Behennah. 24. Today’s results are in! Group Stage Group 19: Cris Urena (93.9%) defeated Akure Wall (6.1%) Group 31: Manon Von Gerkan (93.0%) defeated Margaux Hemingway (7.0%) Group 53: Ana Paula Lemes (52.5%) defeated Ashley Smith (47.5%) My spin: We have our first ticket punched to the Knockout Stage! The ticket holder: Ana Paula Lemes. Wait, what? Ana Paula Lemes? Yep. Ana Paula Lemes is the first to advance to the Knockout Stage after a close victory over rookie Ashley Smith. Ana Paula only averaged 53.6% of the vote in her two wins, but it was enough! Cris Urena pummeled Akure Wall and sets up a showdown against #19 Christie Brinkley for the group title. Manon Von Gerkan’s win nearly cements Jessica Gomes’ place in the Knockout Stage, as Jessica would need to lose big in her remaining match against Margaux Hemingway to lose her spot. Not likely.
