  1. Hello, everybody! I have posted a few times in the SI Swimsuit area of Bellazon with an idea for this ultimate Swimsuit Model Tournament, and I'm launching it today. I hope as many of you as possible vote in this competition. I'm doing it because I'm as excited about SI models as you are, and I'm also very curious how this will turn out. Since this forum isn't the greatest way to collect poll results, I'll be using a non-spammy polling service that I can link to here. I've been lurking at Bellazon for a long time, and I love the site. So, I'm posting every one of the matches in this thread. Because there will be so many matches and such a huge bracket, I'm going to use my blog site as a "home base" for the tournament. (No, this isn't an effort to drive traffic to my blog... I am just a fan and don't profit in any way from traffic. I just want to run this competition as well as I can.) The full brackets are rather huge jpg files, so they're posted on the tournament main page on the blog. Here's an explanation of the tournament, which I've copied/pasted from my blog. The first matches will begin on September 4th. I hope you all enjoy it and participate! I'm looking forward to providing some entertainment during the fall & winter. ------ As of 2013, there have been 221 models that have appeared in the 50 publications of the SI Swimsuit Issue. All 221 are a part of this exciting competition! The tournament consists of two parts: the Main Draw and the Qualifying Draw. The Main Draw consists of 128 models, one of which will be the ultimate champion. Here's the breakdown of the Main Draw: 32 seeded models (see this link for the list) 64 unseeded models 32 qualifiers I have created a unique ranking system that ranks every one of the 221 SI Swimsuit models (see FAQ here). The top 32 in the rankings are assigned seeds according to their rank, and they are distributed throughout the bracket so a seeded model will not match up against another seeded model until the 3rd round of the tournament. The 64 models ranked #s 33-96 are also in the Main Draw, and they are considered "unseeded" models. Unseeded models were randomly assigned in the bracket, always matching up against another unseeded model in the 1st round of the Main Draw. The final 32 positions in the Main Draw are reserved for those models who advance through the Qualifying Draw. The 125 models ranked between 97-221 participate in the Qualifying Draw, which consists of two rounds, thinning the field to the 32 qualifiers who will earn a spot in the Main Draw. All bracket slots (and thus, the first round matches) in the Qualifying Draw were randomly assigned. For the 32 models lucky enough to survive the Qualifying Draw, their first round matchup will be against one of the 32 seeded models. So, it's a tough road to hoe for one of those qualifiers to make it deep in the tournament! Each match will have a voting period of one week. After the voting period is over, the results will be announced and the winner will move on to the next round in the tournament. This continues until we have our one champion.
  2. Ha! It'll be more clear when you see the brackets, MissLima. I hope you and many others on here vote, because I'm curious to see the results!
  3. OK, thanks. I will post there. I was taking a look at others in that area, and I didn't like how it was so difficult (manual) to collect poll results. So, I'm going to post there, but the poll question itself will be a link to a free poll site (a non-spammy one). I plan to post each matchup here, but for ease of posting the brackets, archiving, etc., I'll use my blog site, too. I'll post more details over on the forum you suggested. Thanks!
  4. Hi! The tournament details are explained here, as to not clutter this thread: http://www.bellazon.com/main/topic/39967-general-su-swimsuit-discussion/?p=3239302 The quick answer to your questions are that the tournament is setup logically, with seeds, and I did not at all use SI's ranking system. In fact, the differences between SI's ranking and my mathematical-based ranking are quite interesting, but that's a topic for another day. Check the link out above to see more details. Thanks!
  5. Regarding my idea for an SI Swimsuit tournament first introduced here: http://www.bellazon.com/main/topic/47095-2014-si-swimsuit/page-46#entry3239195 I have created a database of SI Swimsuit models, compiled by personally verifying each issue (with the exception of some of the early 00s that I do not have... but I am nearly certain on those being accurate, too.) There are 221 actual models (not sports stars, guest stars, etc.) that have appeared in the issue through the years. My idea for the tournament is to have every one of those models in the running. I have already setup a bracket, and I'll explain more about how I did that in a bit. The short answer here is that I have ranked every one of the 221 models according to scoring system that takes into account the number of appearances and number of covers, both of which are weighted depending on year and number of models appearing in a given year; in other words, not just a simple count. I seeded the top 32 models in order, and bracketed them appropriately so that they won't face each other until the later rounds. Obviously, 221 participants in one bracket is nuts, so to make it work, I've created a qualifying bracket of 125 models where 32 models will prevail to enter the main bracket. For those who are tennis fans, this is similar to how the major tennis tournaments work. The main bracket has 128 models, with the 32 seeds initially matched up against the 32 qualifiers. The remaining 64 are unseeded and randomized using random.org. So, the top 96 in my rankings are in the main draw to start, and the rest of the models (125) duke it out in the qualifying rounds to get one of the 32 spots reserved for the qualifiers. All qualifying matchups were randomized; there are no seeds in the qualifying tournament. That's about it in a nutshell. To coincide with the final match being held when SI's 2014 swimsuit issue is released in February, the tournament would start in early September, and I'd run one or two matchups a day, depending on the round. Thanks.
  6. Hi, everybody. I apologize if this may be the wrong place for this post, but it is somewhat on topic. I am thinking of having an SI Swimsuit Model Tournament, with the finals of the tournament coinciding with the release of SI Swimsuit 2014. I wanted to gauge peoples' thoughts on this. Every SI model to ever grace the pages of an issue (excluding sports stars, etc.) will be included in the tournament bracket. If I go forward with it, it would obviously be in its own new thread, not in this 2014 thread. Again, my apologies if this is the wrong place for this, but my intentions are good. I'm pretty new to the forum, so please be easy on me. Bellazon's forum is a great place with lots of people interested in SI Swimsuit here, so I thought it'd be a perfect place to hold such a competition. Below is a sample of one of the matchups that I'd post each day. Thanks!
  7. I actually think all four rookies were superb this year. Incidentally, I keep a database of SI models and issues, verified by me seeing every issue made. This crop of 4 rookies was the fewest since 1996, when Valeria Mazza and Georgianna Robertson were the only two. Obviously, SI didn't call them "rookies" back then, but hey. Of all the complaints, I too agree with the horrible photoshopping that goes on, especially for the web pics. The magazine pics seem better this year, but the web pics are still just absolutely dreadful. Even the great photos look completely unappealing because of their hack job with photoshop. Just terrible. They hire talented photographers, so why don't they just display the photos as they were taken? Oh, one more thing: It's my first ever Bellazon post! Yay!
