  3. Gattuso Agrees Terms With Bayern Gennaro Gattuso has agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich and will soon sign a four-year contract to join the club, according to Controcampo. Gattuso’s future at Milan has been uncertain for a number of weeks now, with the Italian press speculating that he will quit the club in the summer for a new challenge abroad. A number of big European clubs have been linked with the 30-year-old, including Manchester United and Real Madrid, but it is Bayern Munich who had really made their interest known. Yesterday it was reported in the media that the Bavarian giants had drawn up a huge contract offer for Gattuso. Controcampo now says that the midfield hardman has accepted these terms, and he will sign a four-year contract at the club worth just under €5.5m-a-season. All that remains now is for Bayern and Milan to agree on a transfer fee, with the Rossoneri said to be demanding at least €12.5m. Milan have accepted that there is no chance of persuading Gattuso to stay, although they may ask for a cherry in the deal, in the form of French full back Willy Sagnol. Sagnol has had a miserable season at the Allianz Arena, having fallen out with Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld, and like Gattuso, may seek a new challenge following eight years in Germany
  4. Maradona On Ronaldo, Tibet Argentina legend Diego Maradona has spoken on two subjects that probably couldn't be further apart, namely Ronaldo's dalliances with women/men of little virtue and the uprising against the Chinese government in Tibet. Maradona is currently in Bologna, Italy ahead of his participation in a charity match organised by Roma captain Francesco Totti and singer Eros Ramazzotti, scheduled for the 12th May at the Stadio Olímpico in Rome. The former Napoli player has found himself in hot demand by the media since his arrival in the country and took some time on Thursday to sit down and talk to the news agency 'Ansa' about a couple of recent issues that are on his mind. First up was the controversy surrounding AC Milan striker Ronaldo, who got caught up with three transvestites during a recent night out in Rio, where he is situated while he recovers from knee surgery. "Ronaldo is an incredible player; the things that happen in his personal life are his own problem," said Maradona, a man not exactly famed for enjoying the quiet side of life himself. "He will always be great. Nobody can judge his personal life." Moving on to more serious issues, Maradona spoke in support of the political uprising in Tibet, suggesting that he may forego any links with the Beijing Olympics later this year. "The Chinese are wrong and I will probably not even cover the Olympics for television, yet alone go there," he affirmed. "For me, Tibet is a very serious subject, especially the lack of diplomatic relations."
  5. Final Push For Raúl's Euro 2008 Real Madrid's in their final two league games is to ensure that Raúl does all he can to push his case for a place in the Spain squad for Euro 2008, according to Marca. The media campaign to see los Merengues' captain included in Luis Aragonés' thoughts rolls on and with only two weeks to go before the final decision, a last push is being made. Raúl has not played for Spain since September 2006 when the national team were beaten by Northern Ireland in Belfast and has looked as qualification for the European Championships was secured. Marca state that after winning the championship against Osasuna, the Madrid chanted on the team bus for Rulo, as the striker is affectionately known, to go to Austria and Switzerland. Bernd Schuster is preparing to rest several first team regulars for the last two matches of the league season, but Raúl will appear in both in order to press his case. Aragonés is believed to have removed the player that has made 102 appearances and scored 44 goals for Spain because he led a group of dissenting veteran players against the coach during the World Cup. That move, if true, upset the coach more than anything and none of those involved, two of whom were Michel Salgado and Santi Cañizares, have ever been named in another squad. Raúl was left out of the crucial preliminary squad who were all told to have injections against Central European Encephalitis and that was seen as a crucial sign. Despite that, Marca are continuing their case and hoping that Aragonés will change his mind at the last minute and omit either Fernando Torres, David Villa, Raúl Tamudo, Dani Güiza or Luis García, who are all ahead of their favourite.

Sergio Ramos: Raúl Must Go To Euro 2008 Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has told As that he's keen to see teammate Raúl join up with the Spanish national side at Euro 2008... Raúl has enjoyed one of his best season in many a year, leading to renewed calls from some that he deserves a place in the Spanish national side. Among these voices is his Real Madrid teammate, Sergio Ramos. ""As a friend, colleague and fan, I'd like him to come to Euro 2008," said the right-back. "Luís [Aragonés, manager] should call the best and I believe that Raúl could be among them. "Our captain is a footballing instituion, and he's still proving that. At his age, competing in the Euros is not a problem." Special Time Looking back to his side's recent Liga championship victory, the young defender stated that confidence was high after the 4-1 win over Barcelona. "We're feeling great. Although we were already champions, the Clásico is always a special game," he said. "For us it was paramount to put the finishing touch on what has been a great season. "Did I feel sorry for Barcelona? Sorry - not really. But nobody likes to get involved with the problems of another team and I wish no harm on anyone." Looking ahead to the new campaign, Ramos stated the blancos' aims for the next season. Of course, first of all he reflected on the failings of this one. "The Champions League," he stated definitively. "Next season we'll look for our revenge and see if we can at least reach the final."

Ramos Quashes Chelsea Talk Speaking at an event for the Fundación Apascovi, Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos restated his desire to spend the rest of his playing career with the club... The ex-Sevilla man is apparently under watch from Chelsea, who are interested in breaking the bank to bring him to London. Speaking at the RACE golf course today as he prepared for a Pro-Am charity tournament next Wednesday, he said, "I'm just thinking of retiring at Real Madrid." Such declarations have not stopped the tabloid rumours, though. The Daily Mirror states that Chelsea are to make a bid of around £20m (€25m), although this figure may be considered somewhat low for one of the most prized youngsters in a defensive position. It's a particularly small sum in light of declarations from both Ramos and his club president, Ramón Calderón, about how the Spanish international is going nowhere. However, there is one potential point of interest. Ramos has been on the verge of signing a new contract for some months now, yet he has not taken that final step of putting pen to paper. Chelsea's low bid will presumably, then, serve as a kind of litmus test to see if their interest is worth pursuing at all. Still, the contractual situation notwithstanding, there seems to be no reason not to take both Ramos and Calderón at their respective words.

LET'S REPEAT OURSELVES IN NAPLES Today Ricky Kaká talked about Sunday's game against Napoli, the end of the season, and the great understanding with his team mate Filippo Inzaghi. - THE DECLARATIONS OF KAKÁ - MILANELLO - Here are the declarations made by Ricky Kakà today to Milan Channel's microphones ahead of the training session: Ricky, on Sunday there's an important away game against Napoli. In the first game it went well and there was an entirely Brazilian Milan. "Yes, the first game was a nice match and it was the only appearence of the 'Ka-Pa-Ro'. Let's hope that on Sunday we get a positive result like in the first game because the three points are important for the fourth place and then also do well in the last game of the season at home against Udinese. We'll try to do our best like we've been doing lately. Even though we have now beaten Fiorentina to the fourth place, there's still pressure, we have even more responsibility because everything depends on us, which gives us a lot of motivation. If we win our last wo games we'll have reached our objective, but we know we have Fiorentina behind us, they are playing a great season." Between you and Pippo there's a great feeling especially since the Athens final... "Yes, our understanding has improved a lot, we often find each other on the pitch and I manage to play assists which both him and I like. We are doing very well as a couple and we'll try to play these last two games as best we can. The turnaround came from the second goal in Athens. In this last period we've played a lot together, which has certainly improved our feeling. His best quality is that he never gives up, he always believes until the end, he never gives up on any ball until it's completely out. He's the only player who could have gotten on the cross I played in the match against Inter on Sunday and that's why Pippo is unique." A lot of people were surprised to hear you talk positively about Messi considering the rivalry between Brazilians and Argentineans... "I think Messi is a great player, the fact he is Argentinean doesn't count for me. I like how he plays and if there would be one player I would like to join me at Milan it's him. I've met him two or three times, he seems like a good lad."
