@SympathysSilhouette finished 1/3rd of Feast of Crows. The plot has slowed down to a glacial pace but there is a lot of internal monologue and character building of Brienne, Jaime, Sam, Cersei etc. However it's a bit odd that this content is placed in book 4. It would have made more sense to have it in books 1-2.
There is also a 'new generation' of characters being introduced. Sand snakes etc. I can't help but think that just like in the show, these new characters will not hold a candle to the those in the first 3 books. I am also finding that GRRM is repeating the same themes, tropes over and over again. I first detected this halfway through Storm of Swords and now it's too obvious. It seems that as GRRM writes the exceptionally high quality of his ideas starts to get less and less. He's starting to use up his material here.
Sam-Gilly is starting to get obnoxious. Too much of this character.
