After the defeat of the Ukrainian counteroffensive both sides appear to have taken a siesta in the war in Ukraine. The Russians continue to passively shoot at the Ukrainian forces with airstrikes and artillery, and the use of thousands of kamikaze drones. Wagner PMC mercenaries have appeared at Adiivka. The Adiivka pocket keeps on compressing and the Ukrainians keep on pumping up absurd lies about their 'successes'. At this point the Ukrainian-NATO effort has told more lies about the war than the Nazi Reich in WW2. Nobody knows how many people are left in Ukraine. They have lost at least 20% of their population. Putin boasting of Ukraine only have 21-22 million people left is probably a lie but indicates a certain strategic intent. Zelensky recently claimed to Western press that the average Ukrainian soldier is a middle aged man of age 45-40 years old. This could be another lie to get more western aid. Zelensky & Co. have no interest in serious negotiation despite them being stuck in a strategic dead end. Western interest in the war is continuously declining and they do not ship sufficient munitions and equipment. Remarkably the Ukrainian Soviet Arsenal is still being used after 21 months or so of war albeit much declined. Western production is so poor that european nato only fulfilled 30% of the promised amount of heavy artillery ammo. If Pentagon claims of North Korea are real and not a lie, then North Korean grain deal gave Russia more heavy artillery ammunition in 2 weeks than the US-NATO did for Ukraine in the entire war. Yet the Russians have not used this 'boon' yet. The Russian army is continuously building up and getting larger and larger but at the same time display no interest in strategic offensive. They even commissioned new ships and submarines; and in general behave like the US in afganistan- it is like the war is just an extra-curricular activity. The Russian military told the public that the Special Military Operation will end in 2025 and that they are prepared to fight the war for 10 years. They want to reach the 1.5 million man army target by the spring of 2024. The ending of SMO could mean that they will declare war on Ukraine. Overall Russian strategy appears to be that of a waiting game. The Russian state claims that they resettled 5 million people from the occupied territories into the borders of the old Russian federation. Their actions indicate that they will wait until the West loses a critical mass of interest in Ukraine and continue to allow Ukraine to self-cannibalize with people fleeing the country. Meanwhile the Ukrainian economy is in ruins and the West has to keep on spending XXX billions to keep the country afloat. They seem to be waiting for Ukrainian political in-fighting and the day that the Ukrainian people & army get tired of the war.

The lord of the rings trilogy (director's cut) is better than the theatrical as well. The performance of Avatar 2 was quite weird to me. I thought it was bomb but it turned out to be a hit. The thing with Avatar 1 is that after the film was over nobody cared about Avatar. The same thing happened with 2. Overall I would prefer if Cameon did other projects. Avatar 1 was a rather dull film from a character point of view. With napolen, Scott said that the cut content has a lot of Josephine stuff. I looked up Napoleon & Josephine's relationship and it is evident that Josephine was quite a seductress and social climber. She had affairs and did not like Napoleon as much as he did her. She also had fertility issues. He wrote her a lot of letters but she did not return the favor. It is possible that her cheating was also motivated by finding a fall-back option in case Napoleon was defeated. When he found out she was cheating on him he acquired several mistresses..

This is what their portraits looked like (in reality Josphine was older than Napoleon): Cutting off 2 hours of a 4 1/2 hour movie is really way too much. I strongly suspect that the 'final cut' will be a much better film like Kingdom of Heaven.

All these games use a similar engine, basically they are the best WW2 multiplayer FPS games out there. This is the first game I've ever seen use France 1940 weapons and equipment. In the trailer the German Panzer III has the markings of the 10th Panzer Division, which was charging towards Dunkirk. This could be inspired by the battle of Stonne.

I've looked a bit at the film already and my first impressions just from skimming around: 1. J. Phoenix looks exhausted & defeated the whole time and looks out of place. His voice is very tired sounding as well. 2. Very good props but the filming is shot 'very close' and there is a lack of feeling of the expanse. Everything is all clustered together. 3. The film looks to suffer from "final cut" issues like Blade Runner and most seriously, "Kingdom of Heaven". As in the film itself is naturally 3 + hours long but Scott had to remove critical content for the theatrical cut. So it jumps very rapidly throughout Napoleon's career. 4. There seems to be lack of coverage of Napoleon's massive social impact in europe, which any balanced biopic should focus on. 5. Josephine and Napoleon look like an odd couple and out of place. Like a tired old man with a young woman. Otherwise it looks very interesting and I'll watch it when I get a real copy. The napoleon war films made in Russia and Waterloo (1970) are generally considered the best:;

Napoleon was in his 30s. He died 'young' for modern standards (age 51). I am ok with historical inaccuracy as long as they get the spirit of the times correct. It's almost impossible to make a truly historically accurate war film. Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven were very historically inaccurate but were great films. It would have been better to make a Napoleon film a few years after Gladiator if he wanted to cast J.Phoenix though. For me his Commodus is the best dramatized depiction of the historic emperor I could ever imagine. I love it!

I've almost done re-reading Blood of Elves, Book 3 of the Witcher series. Re-reading this after the show and going through the games a second time has made me appreciate and catch so many more details than the first time I read it.
