You win because SI decides you win. Call me cynical but nothing I've observed about the rookie results in any year has given me the impression they're legitimate. Even if they are, unlimited voting would render the whole process completely ludicrous. The numbers simply do not behave sensibly, and I don't mean that in a "they don't favor the model I prefer" way. What a curiously even two-model race we have going on. The drama.

I dunno, any photo of Nina that doesn't show off her abs seems like a missed opportunity. Not complaining about this angle, though. Seems like a tradition that no matter who gets the cover, there are examples of better cover-worthy photos within the model's gallery. Same was true of Kate both times, probably true of Nina/Lily/Chrissie (individually if not together) this time.

Emily Ratajkowski is famous for being naked all over the internet. Pretty much everyone in the non-Bellazon world I've read seems bemused by her presence in the swimsuit issue. "So I can see her wearing more than what's revealed already after a casual Google search?"

Nina's great, I like Chrissy fine, and Lily doesn't do a whole lot for me. Meh. But then I'm not terribly invested in the cover. The videos are the only content SI produces that isn't covered in a thick layer of Photoshop residue, and the website isn't live yet.

Diversity in this context refers to ethnicity and - this is the key - representation (eg. race). To argue otherwise is to engage in obfuscatory semantics. The point of diversity in something like the SI Swimsuit issue is to promote women of all colors as beautiful. That whiteness has been associated with traditional standards of beauty - and thus, contributes to the oppression of women of color - has been the subject of countless studies, discussions, and protests. Claiming diversity is satisfied by white women with various countries of origin is to miss the point entirely.

I think that's what the VS photoshoppers ask themselves before they get to their unnecessary work.
No-one here will question my Nina fan bona fides, but part of me is thinking: "You know, we get tons of new Nina stuff all the time becauses she's a popular working model, but new good Eva Green stuff is pretty rare..." Then I remembered Maxim photoshops its subjects into plasticky oblivion and I'm not sure I care one way or the other anymore. Good luck to Nina though, for the publicity if nothing else.

For my part, I like different looks at different times. Some days (more days) it's Nina, others its Kate. But it's all just whichever superficial fantasy happens to be doing it for me at any given time. That's not all there is to attraction, or being a fan of a model or actress or whatever, but it is pretty much all there is to the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. I'd wager that while Kate Upton might not be everyone's #1 favorite, she's probably among the favorites of a huge number of people. The cute blonde with big boobs has staggeringly wide appeal. This probably isn't news to anyone, least of all SI or Kate Upton herself.
