There's a lot of history there. I was watching a documentary about Madrid-Barca rivalry but I don't remember half the things I heard in the programme However, I do know that in Madrid's trophy museum they even have a 1932 Chess Champions trophy in there somewhere I thought you won the treble the season before we certainly did, i got it mixed up=.='' anyway! can u believe it! van der sar is injured during the warm up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yuckky: that means we dont have a substitute keeper!!!!!!!!! *cough**o'shea*

No, this was the second leg. The first leg had ended 0-0. They won the trebble in 1999, this was in 2000. ah yes, i got it mixed up with 98/99 and 99/00 :yuckky:

*sigh* you sound just like my Arsenal friend and I hate doing this because now I have to type out an essay. So here goes... I'm not just a Liverpool fan, I'm a fan of futbol and I appreciate it's history because it influences how the game is played today. Say you went out with an older partner and you noticed they had a scar on their body. Say the scar came from an experience when they were young (and when you weren't born) that shaped how they were as a person, psychologically so to speak. Would you want to know about that scar and how it influenced the development of your partner? It's not the best analogy but it should suffice. That is the same way I feel about futbol. You don't need to be old to appreciate some things (though most of the time it helps in understanding the context). Having knowledge of your club and futbol in general also makes for good conversation and bonding between fans. It is just something that has developed naturally for me at least. And there's no harm in listening to someone else tell you about how great a player was, so long as you think about what they've said and try to filter out any bias (Although it would be good to be able to see all the matches in the past and judge for yourself). I just look for games and clips on the internet when I feel like watching stuff from the past. Hard to find though Also, futbol is not just a sport in my opinion, it is cultural thing as well. The best example is probably La Liga, where culture and sport are infused into one. Understanding cultural events such as the Spanish Civil War help you understand why the rivalries between clubs are so intense. To them, it is not just a sport, it is something more than that, e.g. Did you know that Barcelona was the last state to fall in the Civil War and was the symbol of freedom and democracy against Franco's faschist regime? Or (for an English example) that prior to last year's final matchday drama where Arsenal beat Tottenham to 4th spot (in the shadiest of circumstances I might add), that it actually happened a very long time ago. Back then I think both clubs were fighting for promotion into Division 1 or something and Spurs finished in the last promotion spot but Arsenal got promoted ahead of them (also under shady circumstances - corruption it has been speculated). Something more significant to you might be the 1958 (?) Munich air disaster. Understanding the history of futbol let's a fan appreciate a lot more of what they see. As a modern example, you can see that the tactics employed partially by Rafa Benitez and Frank Rijkaard have been heavily influenced by the tactics employed by Arrigo Sacchi when he built the Milan side of the early 90s (Rijkaard was a part of the Sacchi's Milan side, while Benitez was an admirer of that team early in his managerial development). There are also hints of total futbol, although with the specialisation that occurs in football positions/roles today, it is not as evident. Anyway, there are probably some points I've missed but those are probably the main points. Futbol is more than an interest or hobby...I don't even think religion would really be a good comparison If all that doesn't do it for you, then you can at least watch this clip of "The Backheel of Old Trafford" It's so classy The match ended 3-2 to Madrid as they knocked Manyoo out of the Champions League. It is known because it was the match in which Roy Keane, at the pinnacle of his powers, was completely overshadowed, outplayed and outwitted by Redondo. and I like Cole more than Downing Cole is a great carrier of the ball and when he goes infield he can make a lot of really good passes since his game has matured under Mourinho (Y) That also allow Cashley to come up and deliver crosses if need be. Downing... I've never seen him play for England but I don't think he can carry the ball as well as Cole and he's too small to run infield...Ashley's stamina wouldn't be used as effectively if he were to play. Also, without a ball carrier you might have a team that ends up like... like... Liverpool :| Let's all avoid that van der Vaart ok...essay over hey ed, after reading your essay, i couldn't have agreed more, and whilst trying to think about what history of football i actually know myself, i am surprised that in fact i know quite a lot! that is a good comparison^^ without embarrassing myself, from what i've learnt about the Madrid rivalry is all about the "royal" staus that Real Madrid has got, for some reason i couldn't quite recall^^ you are right ed, knowing the history not only enables you to be able to communicate with fellow football fans in the world but also help to understand certain culture in coutries^^ that backheel was awesome, but did manutd beat madrid in the second leg? since that was the season when they won the treble?
  8. would he get banned for that kind of abusive language?

damn Manyoo...you end every record don't you? Arsenal, Chelsea and I'm sure if Liverpool ever had a miraculous streak you'd end it too <_< u mean something like 30 games without winning? just kidding. i am sure we will end your "good" records though

Now that you mention it, I remember something about trials, but maybe he doesn't want to move yet or you can't accomodate him into the team? Maybe he really is mediocre I'm sure they'll still be keeping an eye on him though. Carrick is not worth £14mill, He's a classy player and I rate him but £14m is excessive for sure...but that's the price you have to pay for English players now I guess...the market is so inflated...and they wonder why Arsenal don't buy English Hard to blame really...who would you choose; van Persie for £2m or Ashley Young for £10 mill? Hard choice Eto'o wouldn't go to Chelsea I don't think considering his history with them and Jose...he likes the Arsenal and Manyoo styles of play but I wouldn't have too much confidence in those reports. I'm not sure about Manyoo history but I'm willing to bet you've had a better right back than that. Henningborg or whatever his name is...wasn't he any good...all I know about him is that he was the recipient of Redondo's "Backheel of Old Trafford" England have alright options for left wing now (but I guess it has been a recent thing so you're right still): Lennon has shown he can play there and he is still learning, Downing can play there and Joe Cole is great there. Chelsea must miss him so much you forgot about Rafael :persuazn: i donno about that much history, and sometime i wonder why people learn so much about which player has played for the team and what match was considered as a classic. since at that time they weren't born! so how do they know that match was great!? <_< i will know a few of the greatest players who have played for my clubs, but i would never mention the games that was before me, or even before i start watching football anyway, just my opinion^^ i think they should put downing on the left and lennon on the right, as i love the speedy players. haven't seen much of joe cole, but i am sure he will be back to his best in no time^^ and of cos, van der vaart.
  21. heya!^^:D
