She made her debut in 1920 and retired from films in 1929. She then traveled to Europe and came back to NYC where she filed bankruptcy. She then went back to the stage. She made a few appearances on television and coached Carol Channing on how to vamp for her musical "Vamp". Nita died of a heart attack on Feb. 17, 1961 in her native NYC.

She was one of four women in show business during the first 20 years of the 20th century who had complete control of her visual presentation and representation. She was known as a fashion empress and as "The Vampire Woman". Unfortunately none of her films are left for us to watch now. She passed away on July 2, 1962 in a nursing home in Washington, D.C.
