Shirin Neshat is an Iranian-born artist known for her photography, video art, and films that explore themes of gender, identity, exile, and power in relation to Islamic culture. Born in 1957 in Qazvin, she later moved to the United States after the Iranian Revolution. Her famous series Women of Allah combines portraits of veiled women with Persian calligraphy and weapons to examine faith, femininity, and resistance. Her face is so hauntingly beautiful and her aura is somehow soothing. She is a brilliant icon.
