Roberto Carlos for Fenerbahce?

Rumours in Turkey have once more linked Roberto Carlos with a potential move to Fenerbahce.

The Istanbul club have long been linked with the Real Madrid left-back and Carlos revealed to AS last week that Fenerbahce had made a bid for him in the summer but that he had turned down the offer once he knew that Fabio Capello was to become Madrid boss.

However, the Turkish league leaders could now finally be close to getting their man, although it is also reported that Real may look to sign Fenerbahce's Uruguayan international Diego Lugano in exchange for Carlos.

Lugano only signed for Fener in the summer but he is already regarded as one of South America's top defenders.

However, Fenerbahce are looking to hang onto all of their prized assets, and their bid to become a European power house could receive a further boost with the news that their midfield maestro Alex de Souza is close to sighing a new deal at the club.

"I've spoke to the Fenerbahce board not only about Alex's situation but about other projects too, we all want to make Fenerbahce as big as their competitors in Europe," said his agent Juan Figer.

"Alex's contract won't be a problem, he's very happy in Turkey and he's very comfortable."

Roberto Carlos and Beckham return to the training pitch

Real Madrid returned to training with their minds set on Osasuna. The best news today was that Beckham and Roberto Carlos could work out on the pitch thanks to their speedy recovery. The session mainly focused on toning exercises. Good spirits reigned throughout; the team is united and ready to be successful.

Real Madrid returned to training after having a day off following their victory over Celta Vigo at Balaídos Stadium on Sunday, ready to prepare for the clash against Osasuna at the Bernabéu on Sunday at 7 pm CET.

The squad were in good spirits all morning and showcased their optimism and how united they all are. Robinho, who has given excellent perofmances in the team's past couple of games, was the greatest joker of them all. Diarra took the pitch with a triumphant run of great touches on ball and some exhibition tricks, followed by Beckham, who was given a great ovation by his teammates.

Good news came from the infirmary this morning. Every player is fit to train except for Raúl Bravo, who still suffers from a pulled quadriceps on his right leg. David Beckham -sprained right knee- and Roberto Carlos -mild fascia tear on the soleus of the right leg- took the training pitch to do field recovery work with physical trainer José Luis San Martín. They were joined by Gago and Higuaín. The Argentines were starters at Balaídos Stadium and decided to work-out aside from the squad. José Antonio Reyes trained normally, without experiencing any problems.

The session began with a practice match that was followed by physical and tactical work. The team will hold four more sessions this week prior to the match against Osasuna at the Bernabéu, where their fans, convinced of their chances of winning the League, will fervently cheer them on.
