February 26Feb 26 Is this a joke? š¤£@Lilja K Ā Two Oscar Voters Didn't Vote for Ralph Fiennes' āConclave' Performance Because āHe Won Before" (He Didn't) It is hard to believe that such a consummate actor like Ralph Fiennes has yet to win an Oscar. Clearly, this reality has yet to sink for a few Academy voters. Variety spoke to two separate AMPAS members who didnāt vote for Fiennes because āhe won before.ā They both thought he won an Oscar for 1993ās āSchindlerās List,ā but in reality he lost the category that year to Tommy Lee Jones (āThe Fugitiveā). āOh sh*t!ā one of the voters said after being corrected by Variety. Yet they both voted for Adrien Brodyās āThe Brutalistā performance, and thatās despite Brody having actually already won an Oscar for āThe Pianistā (2002). Go figure. Iām not going to whine about Tommy Lee Jonesā awesome āFugitiveā performance, but Fiennes was brilliant as the truly evil SS officer in Spielbergās film ā a depiction of genocidal evil that still haunts to this day. Fiennes was also nominated for 1996ās āThe English Patient.ā I think we can all agree that Fiennes is a great actor, but his first Oscar will have to wait, and thatās despite again being nominated this year for his performance as the cardinal who experiences a crisis of faith in āConclave.ā Fiennes is probably a distant third right now in a race, pitting Timothee Chalamet (āA Complete Unknownā) and Adrien Brody (āThe Brutalistā), thatās too close to call. Letās take a moment and appreciate Fiennes, 62, who hasnāt necessarily gotten his due over the years. Heās always been overshadowed by more prolific actors, but absolutely deserves to be up there with the greats of the last 30 years. Fiennesā filmography is filled with impressive work, some of my favorites include āSchindlerās List,ā āQuiz Show,ā āStrange Days,ā āThe English Patient,ā āThe Grand Budapest Hotel,ā āIn Bruges,ā āThe Red Dragon,ā āSpider,ā āThe Constant Gardener,ā and āThe Menu.ā

I find the lack of professionalism in people holding such positions ridiculousš¤
