The Bond franchise has seen major changes due to this. These changes are frequently poorly implemented and ruins the quality of the entertainment media. I recently finished watching the Witcher season 1 and it was badly damaged by this. I am annoyed at this in recent years, it turns out that there is very little that I can watch with feminism corrupting so many shows/films that I normally would have enjoyed. There are plenty female-centric entertainment media out there, now even the last corner of masculine entertainment has be corrupted. My biggest two issues with The Witcher were the wonky adaptation which meant the story felt disjointed and how poorly they cast Triss. Especially since Elena Satine was in contention and she would have been perfect for it.

He has a lot of makeup/editing in the film. 70% of the Witcher Season 1 isn't an adaptation , it's fan fiction! (The Queen C and the Yennefer backstory). The remainder is a very loose adaption. It looks like Season 2 is closer to the books judging from the trailer. If they followed the books closely like Game of Thrones and had a much higher quality production I believe that the show could have been great. The books are very well planned and the purpose of the short story collections (1, 2, 8 ) was to build the world of the Witcher and especially bond the reader to the characters. After that, the main story (3-7) begins. So a high quality show would start with Season 1 entirely composed of Geralt focused short stories with no Queen C and Yennefer backstory. The Triss in my mind is the one from the games. (visually). IIRC Triss appears in book 3. One of the things that surprised me about the books is how minor of a character Triss is in the early-middle chronology. I am done with 5 1/2 out of 8 books and she has appeared about twice and not for long. In the games, triss is the main romantic interest in Witcher 2 and the competing one in Witcher 3.
November 21, 20213 yr This mock-up made the rounds when she was rumored to be one of the candidates for the role: I should admit that Anya Chalotra also had to win me over as Yennefer, but I thought by the end of the first season she was a decent choice. By contrast, my disappointment with Anna Schaffer as Triss only grew. She left such a very small impression.

Lucas & Spielberg had a certain level of freedom when they made Raiders that is gone from the movie industry - at least at that level. If you want creative freedom nowadays and not a battalion of suits second-guessing everything, you need to work on a micro-budget (1-5 million USD). If you want to make a movie for real money, they are going to water down anything that might make it interesting and replacement with idiotic, lowest common denominator bullshit. I agree with your points, but I think the two arguments are not mutually exclusive: it's both about wokeness and business. In fact, wokeness has been crafted to nourish businesses (and politics). Companies who are creatively bankrupt use wokeness as a cover for their emptiness. Same for politicians with no convictions. Wokeness is a sect and sects often feel the vaccum in certain people's minds.
November 21, 20213 yr Young amy adams would have been interesting as Trish. Right now she is too old. Kate Beckinsale was literally Yennefer in the Witcher 3. She is too old now too. In my mind I see the game versions of the characters even though I'm reading the books. Trish in the books is a nice witch, is attracted to Geralt but is a political activist, which spells trouble later on. (haven't read up to this part yet). Based on the book chronology she would have appeared in Season 2. (book 3, Blood of Elves) Anya Chalotra is a pretty Indian girl and is a decent actress. The book portrayal of the character is different though. Besides inventing the backstory, the showrunners really softened Yennefer in "the Last Wish" (short story where she first appears). Yennefer in the first 2 books is different from the show, Witcher 3, and later books (as her character changes due to experiences). She is as a near-villian/despicable character, sociopathic and narcissistic and like in Season 1 her first meeting with Geralt is to seduce him and them mind-control him to commit crimes against people she doesn't like.

Yes, I think that's the case, but I shall add that their "market research" is very poor. I've worked with market analysts. Their job is an art, not a science (and definitely not an exact science). Also, good analysts are very rare. For one very good market analyst, there are hundreds of incompetent ones. Marketing departments in companies like Disney are filled with people with fake knowledge (like gender studies, etc. ). These people don't do research, they spew what they have been fed during their "courses". With some real research, they'd see that audience don't like their entertainment to be politicized. November 24, 20213 yr good videos on the visual differences between the books and the show. Obviously the games are a lot more accurate to both the visuals and the characters:

The race swapping is kind of annoying (and it all goes with this sick obsession with race in North America), but at least it doesn't fundamentally change the spirit of the character. The gender swapping is much dumber, because a male and female character are totally different. I have a bad feeling about season 2
November 24, 20213 yr PS: sorry if I'm trolling here(), but isn't it cultural appropriation for a North American company like netflix to adapt a Polish book?
November 24, 20213 yr Netflix is never going to be able to reproduce what CD Project did with Gaunter.

Actually, this is really a freaking good question. Let's say tomorrow you want to abide to all these PC rules, how can you do it if they contradict each other every freaking day?! Cultural appropriation, supremacy, reecism, sexism, ekwality, etc. => they keep changing the definition of these "concepts" every day. How is a sane person supposed to keep up? The only "rule" that seems to exist for the preachers of political correctness is "it's OK when we do it..."

The majority of actors have British accents, so I assume that they are mostly American or from the UK/western europe/australia. Based on the books it would make more sense for them to hire central european or russian actors lol. TBH I have issues if the characters are all different races- even if their acting is perfect. It is distracting and it reminds me that this isn't how the characters are supposed to look like, so it pushes me out of being absorbed into the movie/show. This is what happened to me when I was watching the Witcher.
November 25, 20213 yr I am nearly done with book 5 (Baptism of Fire). Great book, also has a lot about Regis. However I do not fully like Regis' role in the book which is a trope more associated with blacks in American cinema. The people who use these concepts may call themselves the "good guys", but they are just dummies playing with fire. Remember Rwanda, Yemen, Liberia... and how it ended. Like in these countries, most people know things will end badly. Yet, they won't do anything because the moral sway imposed by the extremists is too strong. The fear of being called thought-criminals paralyzes people and smothers common sense. Being "color blind" is the one and only solution against racism. I'm probably a broken record, so I'll stop here before I ramble on again
