The new year brings the promise of a new best seller, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, due to arrive on bookshelves soon. Along with Muggles and magic, this installment features a morbid resolution: Harry's creator, J. K. Rowling, kills off another character. The Internet is abuzz with Potter fans' worried speculation about who will be sent to that great Sorting Hat in the sky. One suspects, though, that for weary parents of those rosy-cheeked millions who demand the latest book or movie and the Potter-themed underwear available on eBay, this plot twist is not entirely unwelcome. Perhaps it is they who are flocking, as if spellbound, to the British betting site BlueSquare.com, which is offering odds on who will die. So where should your Galleon gold go? Early action favored Hagrid, Harry's bushy-bearded half-giant pal, though Harry's love interest, Cho Chang, is also the object of heavy betting. Here is the latest action on which Harry Potter character will die. —John Sellers

6:4 Rubeus Hagrid. Has Rowling simply run out of alliterative exclamations for this loyal brute, who spews nonsense like "Gallopin' Gorgons!" and "Gulpin' gargoyles!"?

It's gonna be Ron's Dad (For some reason I can't place his name :( ) I bet, He almost died once already.

Arthur is his name and that's a possibility.

There's even talk of Ron being killed next. That's if you follow the unicorn theory.

well isnt there supposed to be a climatic show down between harry and voldemort in the 7th book? what if she kills of dumbledore in the sixth book? that would suck but in a weird way it makes sense to me

well...i knew something would happen to dumbledore....but that still means he will get killed off and it will be a reoccuring storyline...that would also mean that there will only be 7 books....kind of like the matrix

Well Rowling has already said she's stopping at 7 books so that was known when the theory was made.

actually i read the whole thing....im currently exercising and then i have to go to home depot...when i come back we will talk about this

man considering how long the book was how long can the movie be?

They're cutting out a lot of stuff that's not needed. I'm not sure of what exactly, but I doubt they'll make it longer than 2 hours. If they do, I'll be shocked.

It's gon' be good, as long as they keep with the main story line.

When they cut things from the movies, it doesn't bother me too much unless it's something major. :)

yea remember the second one they cut something out that a really wanted to see, it made me mad <_<

It was announced this morning that "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" is in the running for four awards at the annual BAFTA awards: British Film of the Year, Best Make-Up & Hair, Best Achievement in Special Visual Effects and Best Production Design. The film is also up for Orange Film of the Year.

Acclaimed British television helmer David Yates (State of Play, The Way We Live Now) has officially been signed to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's beloved novel series, for Warner Bros. Pictures. The announcement was made today by Jeff Robinov, President of Production, Warner Bros. Pictures.

After garnering international attention and accolades for his award-winning short films, including earning a BAFTA nomination for his short Rank, Yates has become a prolific television director, helming the BBC's BAFTA-lauded series The Young Visiters, State of Play, The Way We Live Now and The Sins.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be produced by David Heyman from a screenplay by Michael Goldenberg (Where the Wild Things Are, Peter Pan). Production on the film is expected to begin in England in January 2006. Heyman is currently producing Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which is in production in London under the direction of Mike Newell, and set for release on November 18, 2005.

"I am thrilled that David Yates is going to direct 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,'" Heyman said. "Not only does he have tremendous passion for the world of Harry Potter, but he is a great director with a keen visual sense who fills every frame with humanity and compassion for his characters."

"We've been fortunate to have worked with very talented directors on the first four Harry Potter films," Robinov added, "all of whom have brought these extraordinary stories to life with their own unique creative vision. We're looking forward to continuing that tradition with David Yates on 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.'"

Just watched Harry potter 3...

Whilst watching, a thought most disturbing crossed my mind.

Now, is it just me?

I have no idea what this thought is so I can't say.
