Alicia Keys Debuts Her Inspirational Jewelry Collection

Ask new jewelry designer Alicia Keys to choose a favorite piece from her collection of handcrafted necklaces co-created with The Barber’s Daughters designer Gisele Theriault, and you’ll find she’s hard pressed to do so. “They’re all so beautiful,” the Grammy award-winning R&B singer told PEOPLE during a preview of the line on Tuesday. “I definitely love the one we chose [to benefit Keep A Child Alive, for] the Black Ball. It says, ‘The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others,’ which is a Gandhi quote — which I love.” Items from the Fall 2010 line range in price between $85 to $2,500, but each is inscribed with inspirational sayings which Keys and Theriault collaborated on choosing. “We both love words,” Keys explains. “She’s a great writer and I love to write.” In fact, it wasn’t even until Keys met Theriault through her bandmates that Alicia got the idea to design. “In regards to her jewelry, how it can spread such an uplifting message — I love the fact that that’s the focus of the pieces. Of course they’re beautiful aesthetically, but the purpose is more how the words influence us.” Now that she has a taste of design, would she ever branch into apparel line or even fragrance? “Sure, the world is endless and possible — as long as it resonates with that message,” Alicia emphasizes. Check out more from The Barber’s Daughters here. –Reporting by Katherine Kluznik Rentmeester
