Her first name means "deep, dark desire" in Bengali. Bipasha is the second daughter in her family. She was raised in Calcutta and studied for a business degree. Bipasha won the Ford Supermodels Contest at the age of seventeen; she was also named Tulips Miss Super Vivacious. Many modeling jobs followed. From modeling to films is a common step in today's Indian movie industry. Bipasha's debut movie was Ajnabee (2001). The movie was fairly successful and Bipashu was quickly signed for more movies.
