Supermodel Heidi Klum rescues family on Oahu

A relaxing vacation turned dangerous for Heidi Klum and her family who had been on Oahu for the past week. Entertainment Tonight obtained the exclusive photos of Supermodel and TV host Heidi Klum swimming into the ocean to grab her seven year old son Henry who reportedly got caught in a rip current Sunday. Klum is seen pulling her son to shore. She was also photographed helping pull one of her two nannies to safety. Her boyfriend/bodyguard was also seen catching his breath after the incident.

In an exclusive statement to US Weekly Klum said, "We got pulled into the ocean by a big wave. Of course, as a mother, I was very scared for my child and everyone else in the water. Henry is a strong swimmer and was able to swim back to land. We were able to get everyone out safely."

An emergency call to 911 was not made. There were no reported injuries.

Lifeguards think the incident happened at Papailoa Beach where there was a high surf advisory yesterday with 10-15 foot waves and a strong north wind.

"It was definitely not a day for surfing. It was very ugly and rough and challenging," said Jim Howe, Operations Chief, Ocean Safety & Lifeguard Services.

Papailoa is a remote area on the North Shore near Haleiwa. It has just one public access, limited parking and is a restricted area surrounded by expensive homes. It has potential for big waves breaking close to shore which causes the riptides.

"There is always going to be the possibility of someone being knocked down and dragged back into the ocean. All that water has to move back out to sea and that's where the rip currents or the long shore currents come into play and there was strong evidence of that coming into play at many spots on the North Shore yesterday," said Howe.

As for Klum's lifeguard skills, the pros complimented her and may even give her an award for her actions.

"My North Shore lieutenant suggested we give Ms. Klum one of what we call our Merit Awards for rescuing her loved ones. I think we might find a way to send her one. We'll see if she'll accept it or not," said Howe. "I think what we'd like to say to Ms. Klum and her family is congratulations on being such a good mom and so vigilant, and being Johnny on the spot to stop a situation that could have been much worse."

It shows Klum is much more than a pretty face.

Heidi will appear on The Ellen Degeneres Show next Friday (12 April 2013). :heythere:
