Still glad I watched them for the overall picture of the franchise.

I hope Star Wars fans won't come at you. They're famous for intolerance of alternative opinion😂

but how is this movie a classic????????????????????????????? @Lilja K @Cult Icon

It's hilariously bad. Clunky dialogs, TERRIBLE stiff acting from every single cast member, everyone looks and moves so weirdly confused like they had no clue what the hell they're actually doing. I mean I'm aware this movie was made in the 70s (different time, different possibilities, even though technically the movie looks just fine to me for past standards) but everything else was just painful to watch (kids who are threatened with beatings if they don't obey, women with barely any dialogue standing to cook in the kitchen, the "hero" constantly mocking Leia for her "dumb female" lead), I'm still amazed I made it somehow through the whole mess 🤣

Star Wars was made in the 1970s-  people communicated differently back then.

I personally found a lot of the 'classics' in the 1970s to be very underwhelming when I watched them.

I haven't watched Star Wars since I was a teenager but it was something I watched many times, and it (and indiana jones films) was left on in the background in family gatherings to entertain me and relatives.

The genius of Starwars was the original world building, all the visuals (which created a big market for Star wars toys and other things) and how they matched it with the mythological 'heroes' journey' character structure.

You must be the first person that I've ever seen saying that they don't like the Star War OG trilogy lol.

My personal favorite is the Empire Strikes Back (out of all Star Wars films I've seen).  I think it's a better film than Star Wars, which I didn't rewatch very much.  I also like Return of the Jedi as a kid a lot but it was not as good as Empire. We left Empire & Return over and over again on loop at my uncle's house.

I still like the battle and space sequences, and the confrontation between Vader and Luke in Empire is iconic and one of the classic confrontations/reveals in film history.

I like the Indiana Jones movies even more though, especially Raiders & Last Crusade.  It was also left on loop at uncle's house.

My favorite classic Science fiction film is probably Blade Runner Final Cut.  I like Aliens and Alien as well.

I liked this part very much

That one I liked the least

This one was ok. Not sure how I felt about Palpatine being back but it kinda fits because he once talked about this possibility/Sith myth with Anakin.

I also probably understood for the first time in my life the appeal of Adam Driver @Lilja K

His Kylo Ren/Ben Solo was really interesting and I LOVED his dynamic/connection with Daisy Ridleys Rey. They actually carried episode VII-IX for me.

I remember watching it in the cinema with grandma😁 It was good, the rest of the sequels were pretty disappointing to me. Of all "modern" SW movies, Rogue One remains my favorite.

This is not my favorite role for him. I like his roles better in Marriage Story, House of Gucci, Logan Lucky.

I wouldn't consider his Star Wars role/performance as one of his best, it was just the best of those Star Wars movies imo 😆

This appears to be a feminist take on the book?

we were assigned "Old man in the sea" in high school and a big deal was made out of it.  I remember not liking the book and finding the classes devoted to it boring.  Right now I can't remember a thing about it!

Different book. It's based on the life of Trudy Ederle, first woman ever crossed the english channel in 1926.

I liked the first half of the movie (good pace, thrilling, great disturbing atmosphere + silly white people doing silly things and then getting killed for their ignorance LOL) but this 2nd half with these hilariously 3 dumb white men on that ship thinking they were big tough heros talking nothing but irritating dumbass nonsense while doing even worse things to kill that poor animal truly I just started to root for the shark to kill them all at one point and I'm not sorry

Jaws bored me personally.

I tried to educate myself on the classics a long time ago.  Citizen Kane was supposed to be the greatest movie ever but when I tried to watch it, it was so boring that I couldn't finish it.   For me - and it seems most people- films from the 80s onward click while 70s is more mixed, and 60s and earlier are way too old.  People communicate differently, the filmaking is slow, and acting not so good & many references are out-of date and not understandable by someone 50 years later.

Of the 70s movies: Godfather I & II, Apocalypse Now, A Clockwork Orange, Rocky,  still hold up though.  Godfather I & Apocalypse are two of my favorites.

AFI’S 100 YEARS…100 MOVIES — 10TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION | American Film Institute

I tried the same with the biggest comedians- I found myself liking comedy from the 90s onward but 80s comedy was way too old.

A Clockwork Orange IS one of my favorite films. I LOVE cinema, you should try Gooden age, there are Interesting films, not only thriller or drama, there are Lovely comedy and very important good actors and actresses, and professional doing excellent films with less electronic and acting very well. "All that Eve" IS very Interesting.

I watched a lot of old films when I was growing up (they were frequently on TV).  Films from the 50s and 60s even.  I like Casablanca, Spartacus, Vertigo, Singing in the Rain, Lawrence of Arabia (one of my fav films ever), Bridge on the River Kwai, north by northwest, Ben-hur.

Depends on the movie. I didn't watch many movies from the 70s, but I liked most of what I saw.

Some of my faves (besides the ones @Cult Icon has already mentioned):

The Deer Hunter 1978

Five Easy Pieces 1970

Network 1976

Chinatown 1974

Eraserhead 1977

The Exorcist 1973

The Rocky Horror Picture Show 1975

Solaris 1972

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 1975

Alien 1979

Taxi Driver 1976

And even more on my watchlist

Taxi Driver, Dear Hunter, and of course Alien too (I forgot that these were in the 70s)

I went through these classics too but at the time didn't get into them:

Network 1976

Chinatown 1974

The Exorcist 1973

The Rocky Horror Picture Show 1975

Solaris 1972

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 1975

Westerns hold up better imho, also a fav of mine is the Outlaw Josey Wales

2001 a space Odessey is good but too slow of a film

This one wasn't bad but it had some real pace issues aka it was too long imo.

Not sure if I watched this particular cut but I watched one of them and liked it at least much more than Star Wars 😄

I have to watch Despicable Me 4 with my little niece tomorrow so I had some homework 😅

I never really was into pixar movies I have to admit (not even as a kid). I don't really get the humor and the strange looking characters. Maybe it's different when you watch those movies with a enthusiastic crowd. I'm kinda curious for this cinema experience. I think the only other pixar I ever watched in cinema was "Ratatouille". Quite liked it on the big screen. Wasn't the same when I re watched at home.
