and we even have a few canucks on the board...

oh well, it was a fine series. too bad we couldn't get the Cup back up here, but congrats to Carolina Whalers finally reeling one in. (a very Greenpeace message, the Whalers beating the Oilers)

props to the award winners! and hooray to Mikk for being the only player on a Canadian team to win an award!

Joe Thornton of the San Jose Sharks won the Hart Trophy as MVP. He also won the Art Ross Trophy as the league's highest scorer.

Nicklas Lidstrom of the Detroit Red Wings won the Norris Trophy as best defenseman.

Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals won the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year.

Jaromir Jagr of the New York Rangers won the Lester B. Pearson Award, the MVP as voted on by other players.

Miikka Kiprusoff of the Calgary Flames won the Vezina Trophy as top goaltender. Flames coach and general manager accepted on behalf of Kiprusoff, who was in Finland. Kiprusoff also won the William M. Jennings Trophy, awarded to goaltenders playing in a minimum of 25 games for the team with the fewest goals allowed.

Lindy Ruff of the Buffalo Sabres won the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year.

Rod Brind'Amour of the Carolina Hurricanes won the Selke Trophy as best defensive forward.

Pavel Datsyuk of the Red Wings won the Lady Byng Trophy for sportsmanship and gentlemanly play combined with playing ability.

Teemu Selanne of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks won the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, awarded by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perserverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.

Olaf Kolzig of the Capitals won the King Clancy Trophy, awarded for humanitarian contribution to hockey.

Jonathan Cheechoo of the Sharks won the Maurice Richard Trophy, awarded to the league's highest goal-scorer.

Jason Arnott signed with Nashville.

Patrick Elias is a Devil until he DIES at this rate.

Dallas Drake was resigned with St. Louis.

Minnesota Wild signed Johansson and Carney.

Blake is going back to the Kings.

Thrashers signed Hedberg

Senators signed Corvo

Blackhawks signed Lalime

Red Wings resigned Osgood

Chara signed with Boston

Vanovski signed with Phoenix

Kings signed Scott Thorton

Bruins signed Savard

These are what the family "cares" about. Of them, I'm sort of "huh?" on Lalime, because Chicago needs another goalie like they need a hole in the head. Of course, my poor team is going to suck until the owner and the head coach are drowning in Lake Michigan.

I always find it odd that a team can think, "you know, this guy just isn't worth the money anymore. let's let him walk as a free agent. screw it." and then an hour later another signs him for more and thinks, "he's amazing! he'll be the saviour of the franchise!"

I find it even more strange when the team is whining (or at least the owner) that they can't afford this free agent. And then the guy they sign five minutes later makes twice as more. Just SAY you don't like how the guy fits in with your way of play and get it over with :cain:

or, more often, the guy has some fatal flaw that they can't talk about. like Jason Allison or something. guy is chronically injured and apparently is a punk in the lockerroom. he doesn't stay with a team long, but the next team is always thrilled to have a player of his calibre

Gill is tall. that's worth a few million.

and Chara is leaving Canada for the stinking Bruins :(

The Leafs should have got McKee not Kubina or Gill :(

Plus he cost less than Kubina

Pronger went to Anahiem

Pronger and Neidermayer on the same team
