But at the beginning of his rise to megastardom, it was brought to his attention that some were drawing comparisons between him and the late star. Depending on the context of these comparisons, however, DiCaprio wasn’t sure they were a sentiment he agreed with. Leonardo DiCaprio was determined to avoid the same fate as River Phoenix As many know, the late River Phoenix died of a drug overdose outside California’s Viper nightclub at the age of 23. DiCaprio wasn’t too much younger than Phoenix at the time of his death. And by the time DiCaprio was 23 himself, he’d become one of the biggest stars in the world thanks to Titanic. In a 2010 interview with Rolling Stone, DiCaprio asserted that he went crazy with his celebrity at such a young age as Phoenix did. But in a different way. “I got to be wild and nuts, and I didn’t suffer as much as people do now, where they have to play it so safe that they ruin their credibility. As much as he respected Phoenix at the time, he felt some aspects of the comparisons lacked merit because of their lifestyles. “If they mean that I was in trouble, that’s total bulls***,” he said. “I’ve always liked River’s work. I’m discounting the drugs and whatever he did in his personal life, because the drugs weren’t who he was. But as far as his acting and as far as who he was as a person, I respected him a lot. I think I’m different from him, but I hope that I can somehow be thought of as someone who is unique and thoughtful, someone whose work will be respected.” Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t mind being compared to River Phoenix for their acting ability Although DiCaprio didn’t think his personal life warranted comparisons with Phoenix, the Inception actor didn’t mind being linked to Phoenix based on talent. In a 1995 interview with the Tampa Bay Times, he was confident that the comparisons wouldn’t last too long. “People are going to see we’re two different people eventually, but the guy was great and I’d rather be compared to him than someone with less talent and less depth,” he said. @LuckyGirl the crowd yelled boo to Leo when he didn't stop by them for a 2nd time after the press conference. People can be so disrespectful sometimes when it comes to celebrities. Like Leo would owe them something and have to be nice to everyone every time. Ewan McGregor for instance told the fans when they acted like dickheads. That was kinda hilarious 😂 Leo just ignored them.

@akatoshI wonder the same and actually it reminds me of a story when I met Leo in Berlin. We waited for him before the press conference of SI. He came, he took some time with us, actually he took the most time with the fans. Marty and Michelle followed, did the same. Only Mark Ruffalo was late and said he would come back after the conference. He didn't. No one did after the conference but Leo was the only one who got vocal👎from the crowd when he rushed to his car. And a day later some newspaper wrote how everyone except Leo had spend time with the fans. I was like wtf is wrong with you people??? I mean I was there and Leo hadn't ignored us at all. Since then I rarely believe what I read about him.

Personally -and that's really just my personal opinion no offence to anyone here- I think Leo doesn't give a single fuck what some silly strangers think about him and his relationships just like Amy Schumer said recently. If he cared he wouldn't have date Cami in the first place (or all the other "officials" lol).

^I would just quit social media instead of quitting Leo. It's not his fault people talking shit about him after all. So quitting all the bad vibes makes much more sense to me than the other way around and here on bellazon you learn almost everything about Leo that matters without the nasty comments.

^If you follow a person long enough you will realize literally everyone is getting dragged in social media at one point, even the most beloved hottest darlings like Chris Hemsworth, Kit Harington, Richard Madden and Charlie Hunnam (just to name a few coming to my mind). Mostly for their looks and/or who they are dating. Just like Leo. I probably told this story before but the dragging of Charlies girlfriend went so far a few years ago he even wrote a official message saying something like "you nasty little shit heads want to be my fans? Fuck you for putting my girl down who's literally the best ever happen to me and leave us alone". He said it much more mature and politely of course but still it didn't help at all. I think in the next step he was criticized for defending the person he loves instead of just ignoring those haters LOL So it doesn't really matter what you do, it's never right. It's just the nature of social media and it tells a lot more about the people who are writing those comments than it says something about the person who get dragged. Just my opinion.
