Victoria’s Secret supermodel Shanina Shaik on Kookai, summer style and Snapchat
SHE is one of Australia’s most successful models but Shanina Shaik says she still works “really hard” to get her catwalk-ready body.
The New York-based brunette, 24, is back Down Under to walk in Kookai’s spring/summer collection launch tonight.
“You have to find what works for you,” Shaik said.
“I tend to mix up my workouts to shock my body and keep it changing all the time.”
“I like to do SoulCycle and pilates and if I’m away, I bring my skipping rope and I just try to find a gym and keep up with my cardio,” Shaik told News Corp Australia today.
“I think it’s important to get at least 20 minutes of cardio each day.”
Bikini
“I love the colours and the cuts of the bikinis — it’s kind of like tribal, bohemian style,” she said.
READY FOR HER CLOSE UP
The Melbourne-raised model hopes to again walk for Victoria’s Secret this year.
“Nothing’s certain, they always recast the show. I’ll be trying out again for this year so we’ll see how we go.
“Luckily, I go to the callback casting each year because I’ve done the show, which takes a bit of pressure off me but still.
“You have pretty much one minute to go in there and walk ... it’s all about your body as well.”
But modelling for the lingerie giant isn’t just about looks.
“They really push for personality and having fun — being yourself and being relaxed and just having fun,” Shaik said.
“Each year I get nervous ... I get butterflies. I work really hard leading up to the casting. And I just do my best.”
Snapchat
Shaik has nearly half a million followers on Instagram and joined Snapchat a few months ago — a growing trend for “it” girls and models like Emily Ratajkowski.
“I’m just being myself (on Snapchat),” she said.
“It shows what you do day to day. I usually just Snapchat what I like and what I’m doing and want everyone to see the behind the scenes of our work and to see that it’s not as easy a job as it looks.
“I think with Instagram, I tend to show more of my travel and my work and what I do on set rather than behind the scenes as I do on Snapchat. It is really raw, less filters, less time to nit pick.”
“I like to be myself and show everybody the real me.”
