The rest of the choices were more sensical, IMO, and those are sound arguments regarding Kate and Taylor, and their respective positions outside of VS. With that being said, does anyone know VS’s specific criteria when choosing its Angels? Is it the size of their following? Is it the amount of work the’ve done in the modeling world? Is it popularity? I don’t think the company has ever disclosed its specific requirements in that regard. Without that important piece of the puzzle, it’s plausible to argue that Vita was indeed snubbed. I’m not as dialed-in on the whole of the modeling world as some, so I go mainly by what I see here on BZ, and a couple of other places. Strictly from that perspective, it seems like Vita was such an easy choice over a couple of other models that it appears she was completely ignored. The same argument can/is being made for Jojo Skriver (although much stronger in her case). I certainly understand the general modeling argument, but the other selectees, save Romee, have had extensive work with VS prior to being elevated.

^ Interesting article, but it said rumored $100,000 salary, which means they don’t know anything concrete. Also, we don’t know what other incentives could be in the contracts. Are there bonuses and kickers in the contracts that can be triggered by meeting certain conditions? I think JoJo would have signed if offered, which see should have been. With over 6 billion dollars in sales, I would hate to see VS lowballing its Angels.

Taylor and especially Kate G (also russian) were kinda puzzling. Not because they don’t have the potential, but because of the amount of work each has put in with VS compared to Vita. We only have 22 pages of her work, but close to 1,000 VS pics already. And, the pics are swim, mainline, and pink, which has been nothing short of astounding.

^ I’ve wanted her to diversify her brand for years now. Giselle and Tyra should be her guideline, as both became very wealthy through avenues outside of VS. While I don’t want her to leave completely, or anything like that, I would love to see her start her own line.

Many people have lamented the fact that VS gave out so many contracts at once, but it makes sense business wise. VS now has over 1,050 stores worldwide, moves an estimated 375 million units of lingerie per year through its catalogs, earns close to 6 billion dollars a year in total earnings, and has an annual fashion show that is followed worldwide. In other words, business is damn good, and it makes sense to continue expanding. More Angels mean more VS events that can now be held, here stateside and worldwide. Additionally, more models who can sell your brand, means you don’t have to wear out your superstars (Candy). Its pure business.

A bit of a head-scracther for sure, but congratulations nonetheless. Her ceiling is very, very high.

In total agreement with everyone on this thread. Most of the names on the list are no-brainers, and have been predicted/speculated on for quite some time. I’m not as familiar with Kate, but she seems like the odd name in to me. To exclude JoJo is a complete mystery. I like the fact that they added so many, it’s an unprecedented move on their part, but it would be nice if VS gave us a list of what they look for in their Angels. ^ Couldn’t agree more, she blows about half the list away.

^^ The thing about your argument is that the last two years or so have been pretty spectacular for Lily. Even before she started doing SI, we raved about the amount and quality of her VS work, and about how she had taken it to a new level. Also, there was similar speculation regarding Candice’s lack of VS work this year. As it turns out, it was simply a well-deserved break from modeling. Could it not also be the same with Lily? Couldn’t this recent set indicate a strong return is underway? And, Lily has been pretty strong for VS commercially. Doing talk shows and appearing on NFL on CBS. The only legitimate reason for not keeping her is the strong possibility of a youth movement.

VS contracts come in three year stretches if I’m not mistaken. Lily was promoted in 2010, which means that she is up for renewal this year, or not. Since 2014, VS has lost Lindsay, Doutzen, and Karlie, while adding Elsa this year. That leaves two spots open. Whatever happens with Lily will tell me a lot about VS’s direction. If Lily goes, it means they're in full-on youth movement mode. In such case, I would expect one more angel to be named before the year is out, and possibly another early next year. ^ I like your assessment of Candice and Behati (an all-time great and a really good model). Behati’s marriage is good for VS on the publicity front, and she is a very good model. She just does not have “it.” Lily certainly has “it” and always has. But, so does many of the younger generation thats currently on the rise for VS. It really could go either way.
