no, not really. they created a new publication called swim daily. as the name implies, they need daily content. in recent years the sneak peaks from the shoots have become popular, so they went to the next logical step and showed even more of their casting process. (i imagine that youtube of lisalla's reveal last year might have played a role.) we still won't know who is in the magazine--we'll just have a slightly easier time playing the spot-the-mole/sherlock game. anyway, my point is that it would be very dumb of them to post "casting calls" of dozens of girls they have little to no intention of actually presenting in the mag, then have some separate, much larger, secret casting process that screens the models who will actually be in the issue. one, i think it would be dumb to have two separate approaches to casting, and two, if they do that, then next year no girl is going to want to have their casting call posted. and you guys keep saying this year's casting calls are horrible. i mean, look at the rookies in the most recent issue. someone from SI south africa, lesser-known VS models, etc. those were the kinds of girls in the pool they were casting from. and this year, there's...someone from SI south africa, some lesser-known VS models, etc. it's not like the casting call girls this year are of wildly different caliber than the 2013 rookies, or even the 2013 veterans. just with the 23 they've posted so far, you could put together a team of 5 that is better than julie, chrissy, genevieve, ariel, and jessica, easily.

pheno and pretty, i just don't think it's plausible that they're secretly interviewing 150-200 girls, posting none of them online, and meanwhile taking pictures, interviewing, and tweeting about two dozen models who will never be in the magazine. you could very well be right, but that seems like a dumb strategy for SI or human beings in general. and since you offer no proof, i don't mind betting against you. and misslima: six new models wouldn't mean kicking out a lot of veterans. over the past five years, the average number of rookies is...6. over the past 10 years, the average number of rookies is...6. so saying there will be six next year isn't much of a stretch. last year's group of four was the smallest "rookie" class ever. i know you guys have like 40,000 posts among you but i'd still bet against you: closer to six rookies, and most--if not all--from the castings. i'll even go further and bet that among emily ratajkowski, lauren budd, and tahnee atkinson, at least one of them will be in the issue.

i'll take that bet. i expect we'll see closer to six girls from casting in the 2014 issue.

ok, just to recap: mj day first tweeted pics of the 2013 shoots in mid-may 2012, so we may be seeing those start up again in the coming weeks. it looks like they've gathered a lot of the swimsuits but haven't traveled yet. up to this point they've posted 18 casting calls in about 50 days, but they're almost a month behind on posting, as emily ratajkowski's casting call was on march 28 but the blog post was on april 22. i expect they've got anywhere from 5-20 more castings to post.

maybe that says more about the quality of the SISA photography / editing / production compared to the american version almost every SISA model that ended up in the american version had a better portfolio in the SA version. of course, they were younger then, that often helps.

i'm glad they're considering some of the same girls from SI south africa. lauren is not the worst, but but there are a few i'd put in line before her: xenia deli, lera koryts'ka, nicole meyer, even chiara moreira.

not that this is The Best Indicator, but i still think it's a valid comparison: i put the 16 casting calls so far into google trends and by far the model who swamped them all was dayana mendoza. however, her popularity peaked years ago and is generally limited to venezuela. of those whose popularity is still on the rise, emily ratajkowski is in the lead. other contenders include tahnee atkinson, angela martini, and to a lesser extent bregje heinen. most other girls weren't even a blip. over and over again you all say the magazine isn't about looks, it's about making money, so if the casting directors were going based on popularity alone, the google trends results at least indicate how popular the girls are on the internet.

it's been almost 3 weeks since emily ratajkowski went to her casting call. how can they be so far behind on posts?

with any other editor, tahnee wouldn't make the cut. with MJ, she's a shoo-in. of the 10 castings we've seen so far, i'd give her the best odds at being in the magazine.

SI started tweeting pics from the 2013 shoot around mid-may 2012. if they're on a similar schedule, they've only got about 6-7 weeks before shooting for 2014. so they'll have to pick rookies soon. just going by the casting calls they've had on swimdaily, they've interviewed 6 girls over 15 days. at that rate, they'll have another 20 or so over the next 6-7 weeks. their pace might pick up soon, but i still say 30-40 interviews is more accurate than "hundreds". (i'd imagine they look through agency books with hundreds of girls, though, so that's probably what they're referring to in the media) maybe you're right that some girls don't want it known that they interviewed if they don't get the job, but i really doubt that 60-90% of their casting calls are not posted on the website. then again i guess we'll see. if the 2014 issue contains several rookies who didn't show up on swimdaily casting calls, you'll be proven right.
