  2. slowen replied to slowen's post in a topic in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit
yeah, there's not even any mention of it on their website today.

you're right! 13. i accidentally had lujan fernandez as a rookie, but that was her second issue. and yeah, i wasn't sure how to count gabby reece. still, 13 is more than 12. MJ should know--i believe 1999 was her first year as assistant editor. her rookie year, if you prefer...

nah i doubt we'll get the website until tuesday. damn shame, given we've got a 3-day weekend coming up.

i've basically resigned myself to the idea that we're going to see yet another kate upton cover.

    i put nina's chances at 6:1, or about a 14% chance

BTW, while i agree with MJ that this is the best rookie class ever, she should know that 12 rookies is not a record. the concept of rookies was introduced in 1999 and the very next year had 15 rookies: elsa benitez, kylie bax, kristy hinze, malia jones, malania knauss, shakara ledard, ana paula lemes, naoemie lenoir, josie maran, carre otis, gabrielle reece, rachel roberts, molly sims, and estella warren and Veronica Varekova nope, she was in the 1999 issue and i got the concept of 'rookies' from reading the mag! that's the first year they were called that

so if they're announcing on jimmy kimmel (in LA), does that mean there won't be a times square cover billboard reveal?

you're right. hair color is an accurate measure of diversity. let's move on.

is anyone else disappointed (but not entirely surprised) by the lack of diversity so far? eight rookies, eight white chicks, with at least one more on the way. would it have been so hard to bring in girls like lais ribeiro, shanina shaik, jasmine tookes, emanuela de paula, chanel iman... i know heidy de la rosa went to a casting call. maybe she got in?
  15. slowen replied to slowen's post in a topic in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit
yes she was in the same location of jessica gomes, nina and marloes /monthly_02_2014/post-59217-0-1593825495-60879_thumb.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt="53ba08b5ce99d5d096190ccfc74df918.jpg">

i'm not sure irina is going to be in it. which preview pic are you thinking was hers? i'd be fine if she didn't return. with 7 appearances and a cover, she had a nice run. most cover girls only come back for one issue after their cover; if irina is in this year's, it'll be her third issue after the cover (without being an 'all-star' or 'legend' feature).

after photoshopping nipples from the models to make them look like Barbie, it would be a cruel twist of irony if SI photoshopped fake nipples onto the actual Barbie

this girl is gonna be huge. SI hasn't ever had a rookie class like this!

btw i think samantha hoopes looks great! this is shaping up to be the best rookie class ever. can't believe they have 4-5 more to go. the roosevelts had a bit about her, expecting her to be rookie of the year: http://www.rsvlts.com/2014/01/24/samantha-hoopes-swimuit/ and her guess lingerie campaign ain't so bad: http://www.fashiongonerogue.com/samantha-hoopes-sizzles-guess-lingerie-spring-2014-campaign/

what other rookies are we still expecting? Valerie Van Der Graff (shown already in tv show's sneak peaks) Cris Urena Samantha Hoopes who else? that only gets us halfway through the week! there are at least 5 more--not sure if they'll reveal one on the 17th. though i didn't spot them in the twitter previews, i'm still holding out for violet budd and/or nicoleta vaculov

not counting beyonce, it's been 16 years since a new girl got the cover: heidi klum in 1998. before her, valeria mazza, daniela pestova, and judit masco got (or shared) the cover in their first years. judit's came after kathy ireland's huge 25th anniversary issue. daniela's came after the 'dream team' cover with elle, rachel, and kathy. and for what it's worth, beyonce's came after the other group shot in 2006. it's kind of a pattern. now that SI has gone through a huge dose of retromania with a coffee table book and a primetime TV special, i'm thinking they'll do what they've always done and turn to a new girl to grace the cover.

obviously kate is the most popular veteran. after her, though, the other veterans are relatively unknown, and some rookies are even more popular than them. for instance, emrata is already more popular than nina or anne v, which is why i think she has a shot. the incremental value of a 3rd cover for kate is likely lower than that of a 2nd cover, so i'm not sure there's really much value in a three-peat. emily was shooting with walter iooss, so i think there's plenty of chance walter can come up with a cover-worthy shot.
