    oh man that is awesome!!
  2. part of it is the tanning, but they also used a really light lipstick. it makes her look like she's suffering from hypothermia and sunburn, simultaneously. but these are trivial complaints. her bodypainting shoot is easily the best bodypainting SI has ever done. i mean, what a canvas(s)!!

i'm going to occasionally post the ROTY percentages so we can see how wildly they change... February 18, 7:15pm 34% Emily Ratajkowski 34% Gigi Hadid 14% Sara Sampaio 7% Hannah Ferguson

after reviewing the issue, i'm ready to declare "denipplefication" dead!
  5. slowen replied to slowen's post in a topic in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit
done! i added it to the first post in the thread.

the SI app only lists 19 models! emily r, samantha hoopes, cris urena, hannah f. and lauren mellor are only listed under bodypaint. their non-bodypaint pictures and videos aren't provided.

    nice analogy

eh, a kinda qualified win. to be fair, "we" guessed probably around 100 models. i don't remember any mention of chanel iman before a few days ago (other than a post from yours truly wondering if cris urena was going to be the only non-white rookie; chanel was one of the models i suggested). speculating about a multi-girl cover or kate cover is not difficult. even with a multi-girl cover, i don't think anyone anticipated nina plus someone else. certainly no one other than the NY daily news expected chrissy on the cover. i mean, no doubt the detective work here is impressive, but let's also not pretend "we" were batting a thousand

so it's 2 hours to midnight 65 users are reading this topic. 50 guests. OK... when do we start the countdown until the buzzfeed / huffpo / rsvlts / brobible / whatever article about kate being robbed of her threepeat?

the cat is out of the proverbial bag. BZ isn't doing anything other than discussing what is in the public domain. nothing for mods to clean up.

at this point it looks like the swimdaily casting calls were almost totally useless. let's see... 40 total casting calls posted of those, 4 will be in the magazine (bregje, emrata, lauren mellor, and hannah f.) of those, hannah's casting was posted the latest (may 15). there were 18 other casting calls posted, all the way up to the end of january and yet there are not 4 but 12 rookies. 2/3rds of the rookies never even had casting calls posted (and may not have even had castings) i wonder if they'll address this at all on swimdaily when they start posting casting calls for the 2015 issue

lord knows i'm not a kate upton fan but she could've had a better cover than nina and those other girls
  13. slowen replied to slowen's post in a topic in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit
yeah no kidding. she got the least amount of time!! btw, i see people have been complaining about samantha hoopes, but she's probably the rookie i'm most eager to see. the other rookies are fairly well known and/or don't do much for me.

sure thing! well, i'll assume you know what a nipple is the -ification suffix is derived from the latin 'ficare' or 'to make' so nipplefication would be 'to make nipples' but the de- prefix implies negation, meaning the opposite, like 'remove' or 'without' put it all together, and denipplefication would mean "to make without nipples". it's a perfectly cromulent word. for further evidence of SI's denipplefication practices, please see fellow BZ'er swimsuitologist's post on the subject

earlier someone asked if Anne V had broken a record for most appearances without a cover. indeed, she has! in fact, she broke that record a year ago and is now just extending it. most appearances without a cover: 1. Anne V (10) 2. Jessica White (8, although she was an inset in 2005) 3. (tie) Ana Beatriz Barros, Julie Henderson, Jessica Gomes, and Stacey Williams (7) 7. (tie) Kim Alexis, Noemie Lenoir, Daniella Sarahyba, Molly Sims (6) also, Anne V is one of the few "rookies of the year" to not (yet?) get a cover. others include Melissa Haro, Esti Ginzburg, and Kate Bock. all the other ROTY since 2005 have landed the cover.

why in the world do you think this was photoshopped? i swear, you guys are a bit too quick to cry "photoshop!" it's like the sneak peeks--people here saying those were photoshopped, with zero evidence. I disagree, I think SI has become pretty flagrant with the photoshopping. That quick pic of Kate on the app cover didn't even look like her body, which is hilarious when we can all clearly see what she looks like in videos, candids, etc. And that's a GOOD example of photoshopping, sometimes they don't even make the girls look better at all, they usually just take unflattering angles and make them look like their skin is made out of orange putty. One of my favourite examples is this . Her knees look like they're made of polymer clay. Why?? Does SI not want us to think that Genevieve has HUMAN KNEES? It doesn't make her look "better," it just makes the pic look weird as hell. oh, don't misunderstand--i totally agree that SI photoshops the hell out of the girls. the denipplefication is particularly frustrating. and they'll airbrush the skin all day long. but they're not doing dumb / weird photoshopping. if someone here really thinks they elongated chrissy's arm on the cover, well, that makes no sense. and people here think they photoshop the sneak peek pictures before posing them to instagram!! uh, no. why would they do that? i mean, people here on BZ really think that there's some SI photoshop wizard who is thinking OH MAN WHAT IF I STRETCH CHRISSY'S ARM SO IT'S TOUCHING NINA'S BUTT!?!?! it's just stupid. i mean, find a friend that is as thin as lily aldridge, put that person between you and a third person, then try to touch their butt. it's not impossible.

well, it's true that someone can probably do that, but we certainly can't! there's no publicly available sales data for the magazines, so we have no way of determining the relative success or failure of an issue. occasionally you'll see press reports with anecdotal info, but that's not enough. nevermind the issue of "sales" when several magazine readers will get it by subscription. the website, tv special, and tablet/smartphone apps further complicate the notion of "sales". if i buy the mag and pay for the app, is that one sale or two? what if i just grab a torrent of the pictures and videos? and so on... just something to keep in mind a year from now when people say so and so's cover was awful and the sales were bad. they're just making stuff up...

I think the only remaining rookie guess is Edita V.
  22. slowen replied to slowen's post in a topic in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit
no one "lost out" and anyone who thinks that way deserves to lose! getting the cover (as a model, photographer, designer, whatever) is an honor, not a birthright.
  23. slowen replied to slowen's post in a topic in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit
so kate upton is upset right now, huh?
  24. slowen replied to slowen's post in a topic in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit
good for nina! and say what you will about chrissy (and lord knows this place does!) but her reaction was genuine, perfect. i'm not as much of a fanboy of VS as most folks here but i'm still glad they put a rookie on the cover. at this point i'm more excited to see emily r and samantha hoopes, but lily's among the better ones of what appears to be the best rookie class ever. good for them. and good for SI, letting some girls out from behind kate's huge shadow

    arguably 2004 before that, 1974!
