SuperPippo eyes Euro spot Milan hitman and World Cup winner Pippo Inzaghi has put his name forward for Italy’s Euro 2008 squad. This evening Coach Roberto Donadoni revealed he has already picked the basic 23-man group to take to Austria and Switzerland next summer, but four or five places still need to be assigned. It is a message for new faces like Giampaolo Pazzini and Alessandro Rosina as well as elder statesmen who have recently been dropped, such as Alessandro Del Piero and Inzaghi. “I am always more than happy to accept the call of my country. If they need me, then I am there,” responded SuperPippo. “Donadoni will make his choices and even if he doesn’t include me, that will not be a problem.” Inzaghi was decisive for the Rossoneri last term, netting both goals in the 2-1 Champions League Final victory over Liverpool. Although he only made one appearance in the 2006 World Cup, he still scored the ‘safety’ goal in the 2-0 defeat of the Czech Republic. He recently became the all-time top scorer in UEFA club competition with 62 goals. His record for the Azzurri is 25 in 57 caps.

INZAGHI: 'Without fans there is no football' MILAN - Inzaghi also talked about the decision to play Atalanta-Milan again behind closed doors: 'I think the people who made a mistake should be punished, not the fans in general. To me football without fans does not exist.' The striker then talked about the Club World Cup: 'Now let's think about the league and the Champions League. But winning in Japan would complete a truly exceptional threesome. I'm missing it as a trophy, not because I haven't scored in it. If I were to score good, but that's not the objective.'

INZAGHI ON CAGLIARI-MILAN MILAN - During today's inauguration of Bwin's new promotion campaign, Inzaghi talked about the upcoming Cagliari-Milan match: 'We need to win league games, since we haven't been doing too well in Serie A. We go to Cagliari, against a team who just got a new coach. It won't be easy, but in Serie A nothing ever is.'

Torres press conference "You know you'll compete with the best in the world once you play for Real Madrid" Miguel Torres is very much aware that the only way he's going to accomplish his goals is by working hard. During today's press conference, the defender talked about learning from teammate Sergio Ramos, "one of the best players in the world." Did you know that Raúl sleeps in a special bed? The first I heard of it was what I read in the news. I've never been to his house and didn't know about it, but send me one if you want me to try it out. Why might a footballer be interested in a special bed? It supposedly improves an athlete's performance, but I don't have any proof that Raúl has one. I assume it helps him, and anything that helps a player's output is a good thing. You do realise that you're going to have trouble playing on a regular basis, don't you? I knew that the club really went out on a limb to keep me and that things wouldn't be the same as last year. There are great players on this squad and it's hard to play on a regular basis, but I am young and have plenty of patience. I have to work hard to convince the coach and take full advantage of every opportunity I'm given. Does the rotation system benefit you? It's important that the coach thinks I am fit and able to play. I have started finding my name on squad lists and little by little am getting playing time. All I have to do is train harder and harder. Is it hard when Bernd Schuster only uses you as a right-back, where Sergio Ramos is playing now? This year the coach only wants to use me as a right-back, when last year I played every defensive position. I can still play on the left, right, or in the centre. Sergio Ramos is the best winger in Spain and one of the best players in the world. I have to work very hard. Do you think it's a little crazy to consider Spain the favourite to win the Euro? No, as a Spaniard I have always thought Spain can win it. The team is comprised of great players. I think they are in great shape right now and that they'll be peaking when the Euro rolls around. Your thoughts on all the injuries stemming from international duties... Playing for your national team is always an honour, and we know that we are more at risk of getting hurt when we play more matches. Fortunately, they aren't serious injuries and they should recover quickly. Have you thought about leaving the team? You know you'll compete with the best in the world once you play for Real Madrid. Of course you will look for an exit option if you can't deal with the situation. I made a tough call and have always dreamed of succeeding at Real Madrid. I know it's hard to compete against Sergio and Michel because they are both elite players. I have to continue working hard and taking advantage of the opportunities I get.

Real Madrid to hand Ramos stunning new deal tribalfooball.com - November 21, 2007 Real Madrid are ready to make Sergio Ramos among the best paid players at the club. With interest from AC Milan shaking them into action, Real president Ramon Calderon will soon offer Ramos a new deal worth £6 million-a-year net. The improved contract will make Ramos the second highest paid player at Real behind only captain Raul - and on par with Iker Casillas. "I am happy at Real Madrid, but I also hope to grow financially," Ramos admitted last month before Milan's interest became public.

Ethiopian mother supports Angelina Jolie adoption Mentwabe Dawit, the mother of an Ethiopian baby adopted by Angelina Jolie AWASA, Ethiopia (Reuters) - The mother of an Ethiopian baby adopted by Angelina Jolie denied on Saturday that she had ever challenged the adoption, and said she was happy her daughter had found a home with the Hollywood star. In an interview at her tiny home in the southern city of Awasa, Mentwabe Dawit rejected newspaper reports in the United States and Europe this week that she wanted two-year-old Zahara returned to Ethiopia. Her words had been twisted, she said, by "so-called journalists" who had visited her and claimed to be working for the Oscar-winning actress. "I have never disputed the adoption," Mentwabe told Reuters. "This was a mistake. It was something I never said." On Thursday, the Ethiopian agency that arranged the adoption said it was "legal and irrevocable" and that Zahara's grandmother had told an Addis Ababa court her daughter was dead. EARTH-FLOORED HOUSE Speaking on Saturday in her earth-floored house, lit by a single light bulb, Mentwabe said she ran away from her home five months after giving birth because she had no food for her baby. "I decided to flee rather than watch her die," she said. Her mother searched for her for months around Awasa, 270 km (170 miles) south of the capital, but eventually concluded that she must have died and put the baby girl up for adoption. Jolie, who also works as a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. refugee agency UNHCR, adopted her in July 2005. She adopted a Cambodian refugee boy, Maddox, three years earlier. In Awasa, Mentwabe kissed a picture of the actress. "This is to show I have no ill feelings towards her," she said. "I think my daughter is a very fortunate human being to be adopted by a world-famous lady. I wish them both all the success they deserve."

Birth Mother Of Angelina Jolie's Adopted Daughter Says She Never Asks For Child Back Monday, Nov 19, 2007 The mother of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's adopted daughter denies "In Touch" magazine's story that says she wanted her child back. Mentewab Dawit says that, quote, "was something I never said," adding, "I have never disputed the adoption." She also says that her words were twisted by "so-called journalists" who apparently told her that they were working for Jolie. Dawit also says that she had no way of taking care of Zahara and thinks the child "is a very fortunate human being to be adopted by a world-famous lady."
