  5. Raúl: fan favourite AS readers vote for the Real Madrid captain to win the AS football award AS readers unanimously voted for Raúl as the Best Sportsman in the football category of the AS Sports Awards. The captain humbly received the award and expressed his support for the Spanish national team, adding, "I wish to play for Spain again." Raúl is the greatest active football symbol for Madridistas and non-Madridistas in Spain. This season, the Real Madrid captain is proving once more that he is an extraordinary player. He is the all-time top scorer of the European Cup (56 goals), the all time top scorer of the Spanish national team (44), the top scorer of the League still active today (193), and has an unequalled track record: 5 Leagues, 3 European Cups, 1 European Super Cup, 2 Intercontinental Cups, 2 Pichichi Trophies, 2 Champions League Top Scorer Awards, 1 Silver Ball, 2 Bronze Boots... Who could ask for more? Raúl "I want to thank everyone for this award and dedicate it to those who have always supported me and expressed their warmth and admiration throughout the years. This is a very important award for me and it makes me very proud." After these brief words, everyone at the venue started chanting "Raúl in the Spanish team," to what the player replied, "We all have to support the Spanish team and its coach. I wish to play for Spain again, but we must now congratulate them for the great job they've done." Raúl was then asked a couple of questions by the audience, the first enquiring about which is his favourite goal. "The first I scored at the Bernabéu against Atletico Madrid. It was an amazing feeling to hear the roar and the support of the crowd. It was a childhood dream come true." He was also asked about the Club's youth system. "There will be many more Raúls, Gutis and Casillas at this Club because it works very well with the youth system. We have to support the young players and demand they work hard in order for them to get the chance of making history at Real Madrid."

Guti: No Black Sheep At Real Madrid Guti of Real Madrid insists that there are no bad influences in the Bernabeu dressing room... In the wake of Edmilson's remarks about a 'black sheep' in the Barcelona family, Real Madrid vice-captain Guti has expressed surprise. What's more, he's pointed out that his own club seems to be unafflicted by such problems. "Within Real Madrid, there are no black sheep," he told Marca. "We are just normal people with a great enthusiasm for winning titles. We're young, hungry and motivated." While Guti was shocked to hear of Edmilson's revelations, he quickly put his initial surprise aside to concentrate on his own team. "I don't know what's happening in the Barcelona dressing room, and I'm not going to worry about the problems at their club," he shrugged. Guti, 31, has been involved in Real Madrid in some capacity or another for over two decades now, indicating that he must have seen it all at the Bernabeu.

AC Milan's Ronaldo 'ready to play' MILAN, Italy (AP) - AC Milan striker Ronaldo is hoping to play his first Serie A game in six months on Sunday when the Italian first division resumes after the international break. "I feel ready to play," Ronaldo said. "Now I'm waiting to be selected." Ronaldo featured in a charity match on Monday but has not played competitive soccer since July, when he hurt his thigh in training. He is expected to start alongside Filippo Inzaghi at Cagliari on Sunday, where Milan will look to return to the top half of the Serie A standings. "Ronie had this problem but he's over it now," Inzaghi said. "We hope he can give us a hand on the pitch." Milan is only 11th in the division with 14 points, 11 adrift of leader Inter Milan and five above the relegation zone. Inzaghi has also had little action in the league this season - starting only three games - and has yet to score. But the 34-year-old forward thinks that is just a matter of time. "I feel well," Inzaghi said. "When a player feels in form, things go right more easily. Being in form pays. And I say that independently of goals, which do not always come consistently for a striker." Irrespective of whether Ronaldo and Inzaghi play, neither will be cheered on by Rossoneri supporters at Cagliari's Sant'Elia stadium. The soccer league has banned Milan's fans and those of another 12 teams in Italy's top three divisions from traveling to this weekend's games following riots sparked by the shooting of a Lazio fan by police two weeks ago.

AC Milan's Ronaldo: Kaka will win Ballon d'Or - and stay Ronaldo is backing AC Milan teammate Kaka to win the Ballon d'Or next month - and to also stay at the San Siro. "I think, yes, he will win it," said Ronaldo. "I made a joke with him by asking if the Ballon d'Or organization had called. I frightened him by saying that they usually contact you one month before the ceremony to take some photos! But of course it's not true, the pictures are actually taken in the last two weeks, and there is still time. "I am sure that he'll win for what he has done throughout this year and the past season. "Is Kaka unsettled? I do not think so, he is happy, we are all happy here in Milan."

Agent insists Cannavaro still loves Serie A, Napoli tribalfootball.com - November 22, 2007 The agent of Real Madrid defender Fabio Cannavaro insists the Italy captain still loves Serie A football and could sign for hometown club Napoli in the future. Asked about Cannavaro's comments last week that he "felt lucky" he played outside of Italy, Gaetano Fedele told Tuttomercatoweb: "I do not believe those statements were interpreted in the true sense. Fabio has spoken in a moment of despair and dismay which also swept through the whole country. "A return to Naples? He is well in Madrid and still has two years on his contract, but would obviously be delighted to return to Naples. We will see how things stand."

Cannavaro caps Italy celebrations Italy may have booked their place at UEFA EURO 2008 with Saturday's 2-1 win in Scotland, but last night's 3-1 victory against the Faroe Islands in Modena – which confirmed Roberto Donadoni's side as winners of qualifying Group B – was particularly special for Fabio Cannavaro. The Azzurri captain made his 113th international appearance, overtaking Dino Zoff to move second in the all-time Italian caps' list. 'Really something' "Overtaking a legend like Zoff is really something for me," said the Real Madrid CF defender after surpassing the appearances' total of one of his predecessors as a FIFA World Cup-winning captain. "I'm honoured to have worn the Azzurri shirt 113 times." Cannavaro, 34, is now behind only record-holder Paolo Maldini, who won 126 caps, and is optimistic there are more good times ahead, adding: "The fans love this team. We won the World Cup and within 18 months we have qualified for the [uEFA] European Championship – the public appreciate this and realise what we have achieved. Roberto Donadoni has done a great job and we all support him." 'Remember it forever' Three other players had special reason to celebrate in Modena: Raffaele Palladino made his Italy debut; Luca Toni scored Italy's second goal in his home town; and Giorgio Chiellini got the third, his first for the Azzurri. "I don't score that often," said the Juventus defender. "This time I scored a great goal, my first for Italy, and I will remember it forever. Now my aim is to make the squad for Austria and Switzerland. I don't mind if I play as centre-back or full-back, I just want to be there. I know I still have to improve but I will try my best to convince Donadoni."

Kaka keen to stay on at San Siro Kaka has refused to add fuel to speculation linking him with Chelsea and Real Madrid as he continues to stall on signing a new AC Milan deal. Milan are keen to reward Kaka, who is already contracted to the Serie A giants until 2011, with a new bumper deal worth over Ј6million a year. However, the Brazil midfielder has stalled on talks in the light of the recent violent scenes that have blighted the game in Serie A. Kaka is also likely to be upset by the news that AC's city rivals Inter are set to hand Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic a new Ј7.5million a year deal that puts his deal at the San Siro in the shade. Chelsea and Real Madrid are both keen admirers of Kaka and neither side would have a problem matching any contract demands the 25-year-old may have. However, Kaka insists he is still happy at Milan and says he will only leave if he is forced out. "I never said that I want to leave Italy," he told Corriere della Sera. "I just said the spiralling violence can make important players leave. "I just wanted to warn people and to offer a contribution to the league I am playing in. "I am very happy here."
