My guess is that Costner is a boomer who grew up with theaters being the gold standard so it may not have been a rational move (he always had a 'plan B' ) anyway. youtube doesn't have the staff to do that (they have terrible customer service too for the monetized and they act like a dictatorship) the easiest way to monetize on youtube is to be a hot girl and show skin, period- doesn't require huge investment in videomaking or skill
