Poor Man's Dream Machine
I can't overclock! ARRRGHH! Gigabyte board comes with Easy Tune (Gigabyte's overclocking program). Every time I attempt to tinker the voltage, Easy Tune crashes. I go to the BIOS, but the multiplier ranges only from 6X to 10X. Since E6700 has a default multiplier of 10X, it seems like I can only downclock. I did a 3DMark 05 benchmarking and got 6285. Is that good or bad? ------------------------------------ Do you have a Dell screen too? It seems that Dell LCD cannot have its settings changed when it's on DVI mode. This is a big problem as the contrast is at the maximum level (100) when you're on DVI mode. Adobe Photoshop detects the maddening contrast and keeps crashing with error messages every time I started it. No problems whatsoever with analog mode though.

1337-est webdesigner plz help
I want to create a social network site (something like Myspace). What programs should I use? I don't want something from http://elggspaces.com/ , because the domain name will have a '.elggspaces.com' at the end and the design will be very limited, just like how IPB forums have a very limited design.

Why hasn't anyone thought of this before?
In order not to waste prime time slots, most (if possible, all) reality shows are made online. I don't see why America's Next Top Model, American Idol and other talent search shows can't be done online. We can have the profiles of each contestants online, a video of their singing or modelling posted, have people vote, have celebrity judges to comment, even an online discussion forum about the "show". Since most of us already have high-speed Internet connection, so why hasn't anyone thought of this before?

Is the lack of stability due to more features? Opera seems to be less stable, due to more features.

How much does your Core 2 Extreme cost? RAM specs, please! What's the latency? Are you getting 1 GB or 2 X 1 GB? Dx10 is not backwards compatible, so you won't be able to play games like Half-Life2. Is this statement correct? I just found out that the store I intend on buying from is trying to rip me off on the corsair thing, it should actually cost $290, instead of $370 Purchases so far: 19" UltraSharp Dell 1907FP Response time: 8ms Contrast Ratio 600:1 I did not buy ViewSonic, because: -it doesn't come with adjustable height stand -widescreen ratio (16:9) is a pain in the ass when running certain games or DVD or videos. 4:3 screen is totally problem free -Dell just had a promotion, I bought it for $280

Club Overclocker hasn't been able to overclock their RAM. So, why are you getting a VGA that's not going to be DX10 complaint?

Ultimate Dream Machine
UDM will have to wait maybe 1 year later. Here's why: -Budget issues -Vista isn't out yet -Conroe Quadro isn't out yet too With the amount of money spend, I think I should have Core 4 Quadro (L2 8MB cache), instead a Core 2 Extreme (L2 4MB cache). THE RAM will, of course, be upgraded to DDR2/1111. You are right, I think I am going to have to upgrade the GPUs. 2 X XFX 9750 GTX2 XXX The XFX-overclocked GTX2 is already out, I just saw it in store yesterday!

The motherboard only supports DDR2/800. Maximum PC says 2 X Corsair 1 GB DDR2/800 run at 1066Mhz. If that's true, I don't have to buy RAM next time I upgrade. Can you verify this? What graphic card are you planning to get? Now that you mention it, I think I am getting E6600 ($350). UDM will just have to wait till 2 years later. Monitor: 19" ViewSonic VX-922 $300 Keyboard: Microsoft Ergonomics 4000 ($60)

Poor Man's Dream Machine
I can't get a decent sponsor to create Fat Man (UDM), so I am getting Little Boy (PMDM) now. Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 $550 Gigabyte Intel 965P-DS3 $160 2x 1 GB DDR2/800 Corsair 2028-6400 C4 $370 Unbranded medium-tower casing $25 Raptor 74GB 10,000 rpm SATA $170 His ATI Radeon IceQ X1600 Pro 256MB 128 bit $120 Thermaltake (cooling & power supply) $60 APC BR 800i (surge protector & stabilliser) $130 The soundcard's already onboard, while speakers are the old ones ($5), mouse is Microsoft Wireless Optical ($40) I still need a monitor... Most probably it will be 19" or 17"...

Ultimate Dream Machine
Here's how Maximum PC do it. 2 X 150 GB 10,000 rpm Raptor as boot drive (RAID 0) 3 X 750 GB 7,200 rpm Seagate Barracuda as storage (RAID 5) They say they get 140 MB/s as boot speed. Fast enough?
-
Ultimate Dream Machine
"considering this is an Dream machien then money aint a thang" Not quite so. If that's indeed true, wouldn't you have recommended better? Like 2 X 150 GB 10,000 rpm Raptor as boot drive, plus 3 X 750 GB 7,200 rpm Seagate Barracuda as storage, just so that you can max out the 2 TB limit? As much as it is a dream machine, I am not going to get a 4G RAM for it.
