What's interesting about Brit cars is that the export market had priority after the war in order to bring much needed cash into GB. They where easily available in North America, we had ready cash because our economy was in high gear, now making domestic products instead of war goods, and so we bought. There's lots of these great old cars still hiding in barns and garages, waiting to be discovered. I've helped a few friends recover some cars, the latest being an MGYT that was mostly rust. It was a four seat version of the TD and included a jacking system on each wheel. I have a story with pictures on our club's website if you're interested. My first car, a 1968 E-Type Jaguar I bought in 1976, is still in my garage waiting for spring.

It's almost certainly an MGTD, around 1951. I drove my buddies car once and it was positively medieval. The cowl is wood framed and moves slightly side to side over bumps, it's quite disconcerting. The brakes are drums all around and take planning when deciding where to stop. I found that there's little sensation of increased speed because it's soooooo windy at any speed. A few years ago a group of us went to a British car meet in Nova Scotia and took all the back roads until 100 kms or so before Windsor where we had to take the highway. We where all surprised that Joe and the -TD blasted along at 90KPH! It sounded like it was going to explode but survived well. I was impressed that he drove it at those speeds since I found it terrifying at anything over 60 KPH. Thanks for thinking of me and asking.

My interest is in the ladies who modeled in catalogues back then, and I'm finding the occasional model who I recognize. It's so nice to be able to put a name to their pictures.

Seriously.....no really, there's an excellent forum that's been around for ages called the Vintage Erotica Forum. It's inhabited by mature gents with an interest in the model/actresses and their careers. It's not at all creepy or trashy. Many of the ladies have their own threads, much like here, and there's even a section for ladies who only modeled. This thread centers around the ladies who mostly appeared in the mail order catalogues from the golden age of print. For many of us mature gents, these catalogues where what piqued our interest in the models....and not in any prurient way.😉

I've had decent success with asking the seller to forward a short message to the buyer who purchased a magazine I was interested in. I let them know I'm a fan of the old fashions and include a link to my blog. Ebait won't forward emails but it seems to have no problem with other links. The buyer of these books might be interested in knowing about us.

I buy vintage bridal magazines from Ebait and usually pay around 20 bucks US. Over the past couple of years prices are getting into 3 figures although they don't sell. Ebait eliminated listing fees a few years ago allowing short-sighted greedy so-n-so's to start fishing for outrageous prices. I've bought a few mags for around 20 bucks that someone has been asking say, 150 for, for a year or more. I like to send them a copy of the auction I just bought. It's another example of 'enshitification' that we're increasingly seeing. People and platforms get greedy which makes them stupid.

Something we might consider is making a Discord server as a backup or rallying point just in case. We made one for a graphics forum I'm on and sure enough, a year later the site was shut down. The Discord server became or hub or 'fire point' and the core membership kept in touch via it.

I'm aware of that. I know of plenty of sites that, as you described, are full of 404 images. I mentioned to the mods here that they might want to offer paid memberships to help out with server costs. It would be a kind of patron program. My vintage car forum does that to defray costs. I'd gladly pay a yearly fee.

A practice that's common in graphics forums is to use image hosting services. You only see the thumbnail in the forum and the full size image loads when you select the thumb. It saves a TON of server space and bandwidth.

This model (the car, not the lady) was referred to as the 'Lusso' or luxury touring version. I knew a gent in Halifax in the 70's who had one and got a drive in it. Back then they where affordable. Nowadays they fetch tens of millions.

I'm helping Cea Person ID some ladies she worked with when she modeled for Demetrios out of Montreal in the late 80's and early 90's. I've gotten one so far but here's one that I'm having trouble with. The first shot (left) she named 'Leanne somebody'. The closest I can find is Nancy Dutiel (right). There was someone here (BlueAcadia) who was arranging to buy the collection two years ago and I got into the act as I had a connection to someone who brought a container from the UK to Canada with vintage British car parts. Once it got here I would pick it up, get it across the border into Maine where it would be shipped to the buyer on the US West coast. Unfortunately it was sold to someone in the UK while we where getting the arrangements made. I keep searching, but the collection doesn't seem to have been put online yet. I'd certainly pay for access.
