It has been a massive year for Gomes, 26, who recently shot her fifth swimsuit edition for Sports Illustrated, which is set to hit the newsstands in February. She featured on the front cover of the December edition of Maxim, in which she was voted Australia's sexiest model. She also shot Mambo's new Goddess campaign in New York and was the ambassador for Vogue Fashion's Night Out and the Rosemount Australia Fashion Week. "It's been a really big year for me," Gomes said at Cottesloe beach yesterday. "I'm the face of Mambo, which is an iconic surf label in Australia, and I'm designing swimsuits for them, I'm creating my own range." But Gomes is focused on putting the glamour of the modelling world aside to spend some quality time with her family. "It's really nice to be back and see my family," she said. "When I come back to Perth it's my time to just wind down." "I really miss the quiet life. I love the beaches and Cottesloe is one of my favourite beaches in the world." The Portuguese-Chinese beauty is staying with her family in Kensington until she flies to Los Angeles on December 27 to live with her long-term boyfriend Sebastian Drapac. "Work is really picking up for me in America," she said. "I'm really excited about LA, I love it there, I shot Maxim there." Gomes is Miss August in the Sports Illustrated 2012 calendar. What would you tell girls who want to break into the modeling business? Finish school, because when you're a little older you will be able to get through ups and downs of modelling and have your feet steady on the ground. This business can get a little crazy. Find an agent that believes in you the way you believe in yourself. Don't compare yourself to anyone because you are unique. What's your advice for feeling confident? Treat everyone around you with lots of love, and you will get it back! That always makes me feel confident. What's your health and fitness regime? I'm always trying to eat organic and exercise. When I'm in NYC I do a mix of different workouts to keep it fun, because I get bored easily. I go to my trainer, Justin, who does a combination of resistance, pilates, boxing and balance training. The rest of the week I might go to a zumba class, spin at soul cycle, or do restorative yoga. If you weren't modeling, what would you be doing? I would be studying to become a furniture designer, or taking more acting classes. I would definitely see my friends more often and throw more parties! Maybe I'd play basketball like a professional. I'm always changing my mind and I find so many jobs fascinating and interesting. I very much enjoying modeling at the moment, and I'm very grateful to have the opportunity to travel and be creative. PINK has tons of cute athletic clothes. What's your favorite sport? I know! It's really cool that they make sportswear look so cute, sexy and fun. I'm loving their sports bras right now, because there are so many styles and colors to choose from. I love basketball and I'm waiting for the day they will make basketball gear! I love watching hockey too, I get so excited watching the Rangers... people behind me have to tell me to sit down (or calm down!). How has playing a professional sport prepared you for your modeling career? I think it has helped me more than I ever thought it would. It has given me the energy and strength when my schedule is busy, from traveling and working after a red-eye, to jumping and dancing in front of the camera all day. It also has helped me to be in-tune with all parts of my body. I know how it works and what it needs! How did you ultimately decide to make the switch from a basketball career to modeling? It was tough to juggle modeling, school, and basketball. I had to choose, because I was on a serious level and couldn't miss practice and games for modeling jobs. I decided to focus on modeling, but I still miss playing basketball and my fingers itch every time I pass a court! What is it like modeling with the likes of Adriana Lima, Miranda Kerr and Alessandra Ambrosio? It is unbelievable! I wish I could tell my thirteen-year-old self that one day I would be among the biggest names in this industry. They are all such hard workers and that's amazing to see and learn from. My little brother was watching the VS show and was like, "Elsa, what the heck were you doing there?" How is being the face of PINK been different than other campaigns you've done? It's so fun! It's different because as PINK models we get to interact, use our voices, and show our personalities while hosting events in stores, promoting the brand on TV, etc. What are your spring essentials? Makeup from RMS Beauty (their beautiful luminator and lip2cheek in the color smile), VS PINK Multi-Way Push-Up Bra, Balenciaga Derbies worn with cropped jeans, and loose Isabel Marant sweaters. Were you sporting a VS PINK Giants or Patriots Jersey for the Super Bowl? Well, I live in downtown NYC so take a guess!

You know something? You are right. Plus, thier personalities (whatever they may be) having nothing to do with the fact that they are great models. It shouldn't affect how much we admire thier work.

I agree. At the end of the day it is rare to find people who don't like compliments, honestly. Even if it makes them feel uncomfortable its hard for compliments to not put a smile on your face. Its like getting free gifts, just because. Its nice. And Candy is doing a superb job at keeping herself grounded. However Candice unlike the 3 Supers you just mentioned doesn't make (several) television show or websites about herself (Tyra) or punch people (Naomi). I know some people see the good in Tyra's work as do I but she does talk a lot about herself and her success. Thats really hard to deny. Naomi on the other hand is just an overall NO. Gisele is more quietly stuck up. She internalizes the praise. Candice will go very far if she keeps up the modesty. I really like her as an overall supermodel

Good point. In that case she's very surely getting that cover. I really hope she does. Next to Bar she'll possibly be my all time favorite!! Oddly enough she doesn't need the cover to be successful. Shes is rare not even supermodel high fashion greats such as Gisele or Kate Moss can land a cover of SI. If she succeeds to gtvthe cover the title supermodel will do her no justice. All she needs is a major cosmetic contract. (L'Oreal, Tom Ford) and a Pirelli Calendar spread. Things like that.

Actually I know what you mean. I used to, for some time, think she was a bit snobby but after watching a few videos I figured out why I was probably coming to that conclusion. Candice is a bit bashful. She is self-conscious because with her job its inevitable. As a model you have to be aware of your body, of every bone, every expression to get the shot they way it needs to be. So that mixed in with her apparently already shy nature creates a bashful personality. But I feel this was her before like 2010 and back. I also sense that she has come to terms with her fame and is mature now. She is very down to earth. Compared to the other VS angels like Chanel or even ex angels like Rosie per say. I see that the fame hasn't distorted her view on the realities of the world and that is very rare in this industry so she deserves the credit. She's real. She likes to connect with her fans while most models could care less. She listens to people. In fact she doesn't like compliments (or negative comments for that matter) to prevent a grandoise sense of self. That means she has her feet well planted on the ground. Im glad for her. I believe her "act" faster than I believe Gisele's third world country mission trips. I really have become a fan of Candice. Her personality really makes her gorgeous much more than she already is.
