May 27, 200717 yr And finally my art work: The Denial of St. Peter Baroque Period I had to analyze this painting for art history class so I'm trying to channel all that I remember about this. I found it interesting that the artist chose to juxtapose two separate scenes into one scene. The soldiers are gambling over Jesus' clothes and Peter is denying Jesus for the third time. One would say that denial isn't quite as bad as the role of the soldiers. There are three dice on the table to represent the three denials. The artist (who I can't remember) is saying that Peter's betrayal is as bad as the soldiers that led Jesus to his death. Or maybe that the denial led to Jesus' death. I also liked how the implied lines of vision led the viewer's eye to both the table and from Peter's face to his right and back to the table. I definitely admire the skill more than the composition. Hey, I did get something out of Art History (besides those A's).
