Group Stage

Group 72:
Ariel Meredith (78.7%) defeated Ann Simonton (21.3%)
Group 18:
Niki Taylor (100.0%) defeated Kay Hughes (0.0%)
Group 15:
Carol Latimer (66.8%) defeated Charissa Craig (33.2%)

My spin:
Ariel Meredith had a slow start to the voting, but she turned it on to easily beat Ann Simonton. That sets up a match with Kara Young for the group title. Niki Taylor came into the 2015 tournament having been victim to some terrible draws in previous tournaments. Her 1-4 record included losses to Molly Sims, Jessica Perez, and Laetitia Casta. She got a brief reprieve against the overmatched Kay Hughes and took advantage with a clean sheet, but that sets up another tough matchup versus #18 Vendela Kirsebom to determine who advances to the Knockout Stage. Finally, Carol Latimer won the sacrifical lamb challenge. She wins the right to be pummeled by Kate Upton next match!

Group Stage

Group 14:
Chanel Iman (88.3%) defeated Navia Nguyen (11.7%)
Group 60:
Louise Forsling (80.1%) defeated Kathryn Redding (19.9%)
Group 29:
May Andersen (95.6%) defeated Mary Sturdevant (4.4%)

My spin:
After a loss to Elsa Benitez, May Andersen took out her frustrations on poor Mary Sturdevant. May now needs to hope for the impossible: a Sturdevant over Benitez result. Louise Forsling had a convincing win over Kathryn Redding, setting up a match with Estelle Lefebure for the group title. Finally, Chanel Iman easily got past Navia Nguyen, which sets up an awesome Chanel Iman vs. Hannah Ferguson match to determine who advances to the Knockout Stage.

Group Stage

Group 25:
Aya Thorgren (90.1%) defeated Tanga Moreau (9.9%)
Group 17:
Kenza Fourati (93.4%) defeated Hina Tama (6.6%)
Group 48:
Melissa Baker (85.8%) defeated Sue Peterson (14.2%)

My spin:
Melissa Baker is the third model to advance to the Knockout Stage, as she clinched first place in her group with a huge win over Sue Peterson. Melissa joins Ana Paula Lemes and Monica Bellucci in advancing forward in the tournament. In other news, Kenza Fourati and Aya Thorgren won easily and setup showdowns for first place against #17 Genevieve Morton and #25 Rebecca Romijn, respectively.

Group Stage

Group 22:
Jessica Perez (93.0%) defeated Kadra Ahmed Omar (7.0%)
Group 33:
Adaora Akubilo (57.2%) defeated Quiana Grant (42.8%)
Group 1:
Tori Praver (89.0%) defeated Jane Gill (11.0%)

My spin:
Tori Praver rolled over Jane Gill but will have her hands full in her next match: #1 Bar Refaeli awaits, and the winner advances. Jessica Perez also had an easy time in her match, setting up a showdown with #22 Emily Ratajkowski. Finally, Adaora got herself a victory, and she still has a chance to advance if she could pull off a big upset over Alyssa Miller.

Group Stage

Group 4:
Carmen Luisa Vela (54.7%) defeated Sheila Roscoe (45.3%)
Group 9:
Libby Otis (72.8%) defeated Barbara Minty (27.2%)
Group 13:
Patricia Velasquez (81.4%) defeated Carla Maria (18.6%)

My spin:
Carmen Luisa Vela, ranked #233 of 241 models, finally got her first win. It came at the expense of a fellow winless model, #192 Sheila Roscoe. So, good for Carmen, but the group belongs to Nina Agdal. Nina had gotten over 96% of the vote in her match against Carmen, so today’s result means that Nina’s stronghold on the group title is pretty much unbreakable. Sheila would not only need to beat Nina in their next match, but she would need to get more than 75% of the vote, too! Umm, not happening. It’s not official, so we can’t count the chickens yet, but clearly Nina Agdal will be advancing to the Knockout Stage, as everyone would have expected coming into the tournament.

Libby Otis beat Barbara Minty handily and will face #9 Heidi Klum for the group title. If you believe in the transitive theory, then Libby might have a chance: her win over Barbara was by a wider margin than Heidi’s was. I don’t think that matters much, so I expect Heidi to take the crown.

Finally, Patricia Veasquez got herself a convincing win, and she’ll face an uphill climb now as #13 Hannah Davis (Jeter?) awaits with the group title on the line.

Group 42:
Raica Oliveira (68.9%) defeated Michaela Bercu (31.1%)
Group 44:
Laetitia Casta (95.1%) defeated Andrea Orme (4.9%)

My spin:
Laetitia Casta made her 2015 tournament debut and smoked Andrea Orme to improve to 8-2 in her tournament career. Laetitia will face Yesica Toscanini for the right to advance to the Knockout Stage. Raica Oliveira took care of Michaela Bercu and will face Angie Everhart for the group title. Finally, Jarah Mariano struggled a bit, but she eventually got by Kate James and will face Yasmeen Ghauri for the group title.

Group Stage

Group 71:
Estella Warren (70.9%) defeated Carla Campbell (29.1%)
Group 70:
Monika Schnarre (85.8%) defeated Sunny Bippus (14.2%)
Group 66:
Zoe Duchesne (75.1%) defeated Maggie Smith (24.9%)

My spin:
Carla Campbell had visions of grandeur entering her match against Estella Warren, as she would have clinched her group title with a win. Instead, Estella crushed Carla and actually eliminated Carla from contention. Such are the swings of the tournament! The group title will now come down to a match of two Canadians, as Estella takes on Rachel Roberts. Rachel needs a win and at least 63% of the vote to advance.

Monika Schnarre, the youngest SI Swimsuit model ever, easily took care of Sunny Bippus. She will move on to face Amber Smith, who earned the identical 85.8% of the vote against Sunny.

Finally, Zoe Duchesne took care of the beautiful Maggie Smith, and Zoe will face Morloes Horst for the group title.

Group Stage

Group 67:
Ingrid Seynhaeve (100.0%) defeated Hillary Safire (0.0%)
Group 57:
Sarah O’Hare (70.7%) defeated Tamara Spoelder (29.3%)
Group 68:
Molly Sims (53.9%) defeated Aline Nakashima (46.1%)

My spin:
What an eventful bunch of matches! First, Ingrid Seynhaeve earned the 6th clean sheet of the 2015 tournament after blanking Hillary Safire. Ingrid will face Julie Ordon for the group title.

In another interesting match, Molly Sims edged out Aline Nakashima and kept the group  title race wide open. Aline would have clinched the group title with a win, but she came up just short and now needs some help from Malia Jones in her next match against Molly Sims. If Molly wins, then Molly will advance. If Malia wins and gets more than 76.3% of the vote, then Malia will advance. However, if Malia wins and gets less than 76.3% of the vote, then Aline will advance! Lots of possibilities still out there!

Finally, Sarah O’Hare had a pretty easy time with Tamara Spoelder, and that sets up an all Aussie match for the group title and right to advance. Sarah will match up with her countrywoman, Kristy Hinze, in what should be a close match.

Group Stage

Group 49:
Shannan Click (89.0%) defeated Turia Mau (11.0%)
Group 37:
Jessica White & Talisa Soto drew (50.0% each)
Group 35:
Rose Bertram (100.0%) defeated Tannia Rubiano (0.0%)

My spin:
We had an example of both extremes today: a clean sheet and a draw. Rookie sensation Rose Bertram got herself the clean sheet, as Tannia Rubiano failed to even get one person supporting her. Rose will move on to face Rachel Hunter for the group title. That match should be fascinating.

In the draw, Jessica White made her 2015 debut but couldn’t get any separation from Talisa Soto. Talisa is now eliminated from contention, but Jessica still has a chance: if she beats Daniella Sarahyba, then she’ll advance.

Finally, Shannan Click beat Turia Mau easily, which sets up another interesting match for the group title: Shannan Click vs. Carolyn Murphy.

Group Stage

Group 62:
Emily DiDonato (83.4%) defeated Monique Moura de Carvalho (16.6%)
Group 54:
Pania Rose (53.4%) defeated Barbro Ehn (46.6%)
Group 27:
Melania Knauss (73.8%) defeated Marilyn Tindall (26.2%)

My spin:
Barbro Ehn performed admirably once again but lose her 2nd straight close match and is eliminated. The win by Pania Rose puts her into a match with Fernanda Motta to decide the group title.

Melania Knauss’ win over Marilyn Tindall effectively clinches first place for Anne V., but not mathematically. In the unlikely event that Anne V. should lose to Marilyn and not get at least 43.2% of the vote, then either Melania or Marilyn would advance, depending on exactly how much of the vote Marilyn got. This is all quite hypothetical, though, since it’s highly unlikely Anne V. would lose to Marilyn!

Finally, Emily DiDonato’s win sets up a showdown with Selita Ebanks for first place in the group and the right to advance to the Knockout Stage.
