'Vikings' Bulks Up With Three New Regulars for Season 4 (Exclusive)

Following its deadly third season, History's Vikings is adding three new series regulars to its cast.

Peter Franzen (Bad Boys),Jasper Paakkonen (Frozen Land, Secret Lives) and Dianne Doan (Once Upon a Time) have boarded the drama series created by Michael Hirst, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Franzen will play King Harald Finehair, a Scandinavian warrior and potential threat to Ragnar (Travis Fimmel). Paakkonen is set to play Halfdan the Black, Finehair's younger brother. Doan will portray Yidu, a new and unique Chinese character who will have a big role in season four.

Season four, already under way in Ireland, will feature a time jump of a "couple of years," Hirst told THR after the season three finale.

The castings come as Vikings said farewell to Jessalyn Gilsig's Siggy as well as George Blagden's Athelstan in its deadly third season.

Franzen is repped by Paradigm and Untitled Entertainment; Paakkonen is with ICM Partners, Lisa Richards and Anonymous Content; and Doan is with Principals Talent Management.

Even though considering it's a fiction, though history based, I'm so confused with some of the show's chronology 

'Vikings' season 4 spoilers: Plot to focus on bigger Ragnar-Rollo conflict

 

"Vikings" season 3 ended on a strange cliffhanger.

Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) successfully raided Paris but was wounded to near-death, and Rollo (Clive Standen) was left behind. The latter was then offered to marry Emperor Charles' daughter, Princess Gisla, and would be given land and the title of "Duke" as well.

According to a report from the Venture Capital Post, season 4 is going to focus very heavily on the decisions and conflict between Ragnar and Rollo. The latter already betrayed his brother before, but the report states that things will be different in season 4, particularly because of Rollo's change in status and beliefs.
The report recalls what the Seer prophesized to Rollo when he stated, "If you could see what I can see when you reach Paris, you would be dancing naked in the sand." 
According to the report, Fimmel stated that Rollo wants to prove that his new power, title, and marriage is the reason why he should be happy and "dancing naked in the sand." The actor also said that this will cause a higher level of conflict that will lead to a different set of ramifications as well. 

It's been long speculated by fans that Ragnar may see his end in season 4 but it may not be at the hands of Rollo. As the report from VCPost points out, historians and folklore experts know that Ragnar Lothbrok, at least according to Viking mythology, died at the hands of King Aella in Northumbria and not during a conflict with France and his brother Rollo. 

If Ragnar does die in season 4, then the series will focus on his sons, particularly Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig). An older report from the IBTimes cites series creator Michael Hirst and his enthusiasm to focus on Bjorn and the other children of Ragnar Lothbrok before the series ends. 

"Vikings" season 4 is set to premiere in early 2016.

I said to my dad that Ragnar might not make it through season four. Travis has his Warcraft movie coming out next year which may open more doors for his movie career, so he may want to leave the show. But not only for that as I do think his time is coming to an end. There is going to be a time jump between season 3 and 4, his sons will all be older now. 

 

I'm really hoping season four is going to be amazing. I enjoyed season three but not as much as I enjoyed season one and two.

Warcraft has already been filmed though, it's in Post-production. Unless Travis throws in the towel this season I think we at least have 2 more seasons left, if not more.

I know but I mean after it is released he may get more offers for movies. But seeing as Vikings will mostly likely be finished filming around that stage, he may keep going until sometime in seaosn five if his movie career does pick up next year. I'll admit it will be a shame to see him go, I love him as Ragnar.
