Bonnie Kathleen Wright[1] (born 17 February 1991)[2] is an English actress. She is best known for her role as Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter film series.

Early life and educationWright was born in London, England, the daughter of Sheila Teague and Gary Wright, jewellery designers who together run their own company, Wright & Teague. She has an older brother named Lewis.

Wright attended Prior Western Primary and later the King Alfred School in North London for her secondary education. During the filming of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Wright began attending London's University of the Arts to study Film and Television Production. She plans to continue acting and to work behind the scenes after filming Harry Potter.[3]

Career

Wright auditioned for the role of Ginny Weasley because her brother said she reminded him of the character.[3] Wright appears in the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, only in a small scene set at London King's Cross railway station. Her role became more prominent with the second movie, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, in which her character begins studies at Hogwarts while dealing with a very powerful secret diary that begins to seize her soul and consciousness. However, Wright's role in the next film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was significantly smaller, but in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire she had a slightly larger role and in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix she had a role as one of the six characters fighting in the climatic battle. Wright reprises her role in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, where her character plays a central role as Harry Potter's main love interest.

With a bigger part she received mostly positive reviews. Variety wrote, "Bonnie Wright’s Ginny intrigues as the sort of initial plain Jane who keeps growing on you."[4] "If someone told me eight years ago that Bonnie Wright, introduced as Ginny Weasley in the first movie, would turn into such a strong dramatic actress who could carry scenes as well as the three leads, I wouldn't have believed it,"[5] "We know who likes who and it’s the subtleties in the performances by Radcliffe, Watson and Wright that have our hearts go out to the ones that are breaking,"[6] and "Ginny (Bonnie Wright) in particular shines through, building on the power she gained in the last film to become an independent young woman that proves more complex with every scene."[7]

Wright reprises her role as Ginny Weasley in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Wright starred in two television movies: 2002's Stranded and 2004's Agatha Christie: A Life in Pictures, where she played the younger version of Agatha Christie.[citation needed] She had a guest role on Disney's The Replacements voicing Vanessa in season two opener London Calling.

Wright signed to star in Sweat, a short film. Sweat is part of a project of five films called Geography of the Hapless Heart. She portrays Mia.[8] The movie has a set release of summer 2010.

Wright is interested in fashion and became ambassador and fashion supporter of the Made-by brand.

Public image

Wright has been featured in various photoshoots: including in the Evening Standard,[9] Grazia Magazine,[10] Entertainment Weekly,[11] No. Magazine,[12] The Times Luxx Magazine,[13] Drama Magazine,[14] The Daily Mail You Magazine,[15] InStyle Magazine,[16] and Nylon Magazine.[17]

Personal life

Wright enjoys dance, art, traveling and playing musical instruments, based around the guitar, saxophone, the harmonica, piano and recorder, as well as sports including football, swimming, tennis, riding, ice skating, ringette, cycling and surfing.[citation needed]

In 2010, Wright confirmed that she was dating actor and fellow Harry Potter co-star Jamie Campbell Bower. [18]

In an interview with Access Hollywood at the Grand Opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando on Wednesday night (June 16), when asked about her rumoured engagement to Jamie Campbell Bower, Wright stated “No, that’s not true.”
