I do not understand that being so rich, with many rich friends, it does not paint, your friends can buy the paint.. for me it is incomprehensible that the foundation make art auctions, and he remains vicepresident, not has supported with a painting his at auction, ..... Can also be sad for him, being a painter .. Regardless of the value can have the paint, not all paintings are worth 100.000, have been sold in 10.000 .. Well for me this is sad.

It's just my opinion.

I suspect that Justin might be afraid to be a mediocre - for many artists there is nothing worse than to be a so-so artist, they strive for depth in their art and recognition from audience, to do a "satisfying job" is a failure. Maybe these are his concerns too?..

We also must take in accunt that we are debating about an english translation of a french journalistic translation of words that Natalia first told in english ! We miss the words she exactly said at the start.

That is so true, Sunshine! a lot could be lost in translation...

And acfr1968, I understood that you meant London Surreal Hat party, not Paris, right away :) And interestingly, it is Tracy that was a co-idealist of this event - and both Douglas and Natalia showed up. I guess it says to me that they are on somewhat good (or at least civilized) terms.

Justin mentioned something about his art, that inspires him to paint, what is your style, etc?? or Natalia to said something about Justin as a painter ??????. I do not remember ..

Natalia always said he wants to teach their children that if they want something they must work to achieve, in spite of that will have everything in life .. It is difficult to teach that to your children when the father in life never worked or has not had not even the desire to succeed. It may create a conflict in any marriage (I say from personal experience, but love can change many things  ).

Sometimes I think Justin wants a life without responsibility, which can travel and do what want, I mean having all the time in the world to do what you want, to sit in the garden for eternity without worries. And Natalia is the opposite, all time is thinking about doing something new. Maybe the differences, became a problem over time.

acfr1968:

Yes, what I meant, for me it was a mistake that he devoted only to Natalia, he must seek his professional success, I'm sure Natalie would have supported.

And the statement in the article: If it were not for Lucas we had not married! .. This statement when I read years ago, I stayed at in :blink: , but they have lasted 10 years together and maybe even stay together ..

Natalia tells what it was like arriving in Paris for the first time, back in 1999, with her gramma's blessings and with almost no money in her pockets. It's a very vivid, detailed tale of what she saw, what she experienced, the food she ate at the airplane... how expensive the subway ticket was for her... how beautiful and amazing French women looked like for her... it's a lot. I'll try to translate it, but I'm not sure I'll be able to go through the whole text that quickly.

Anyway, I was very moved by her memories. She's gone so far! Truly inspiring.

Wow, thank you Acfr, so moving and almost frightening at the end :o

TheDarkNV, I start at once to translate the first column, maybe somebody else will continue, I come back ASAP

Pautinka, I share your thoughts too ;)

Hey ! I am french, and this article was very interesting. Lots of things we didn't know...for example the fact that when she was a child, Natalia went to Kiev with her grandparents to have a liver surgery  :( at one moment at the beginning of her carreer, she had to give back to viva agency the amount of 60 000 francs which quite a lot ! I don't have time to translate everything now but sure I will, if sunshine doesn't do it before :)

Where was this taken from ?

Finally I began translating. Middle column

Everything is opposite from the greyness of Russia, even if my city, NN, owns a very beautiful Kremlin, a monastery and magnificient churches. In the shops, I try perfumes on, I touch the packets (boxes?), like a child before her Christmas presents. I don’t buy any make up because I have very few money, which was already lent by my agency, to which I already owe the terrible sum of 60 000 francs ! I am so scared to be unable to pay it back. Even a metro ticket seems expensive to me. Of course, I never go to the high class districts. I even don’t know about the existence of luxury shops in the Montaigne Avenue. After my first contracts, I send money to my sisters and my mother, I offer myself some clothes from H&M and Zara. I can only explore the real fashion universe through my contracts, more and more numerous and luxurious. Luxury brands become the work tools of my daily life and finally, I can offer myself my first bag Bottega Veneta. In spite of my numerous moves , I still have it. In the 90’s, the only well known brands in Russia were Levi’s for the clothes and Chanel n°5 for the perfumes !

OK, I'm not very good at english, I'm gonna do my best, sorry if it's clumsy :)

The day when...

...I set foot on Paris soil for the first time

by Natalia Vodianova

I disembarked on November, 30, 1999 in this capital, incarnation of a lifestyle tremendously opposite to mine in Russia ! I'm far to imagine that my face will later decorate the Champs-Elysees.

Aboard the french Air France plane, a new world opens to me. First the food ! I savour a feta salad, chicken accompagnied with pasta and I eat camembert with relish. Cheese is a completely new food to me ! I've just took off to Paris. It's the second time I take a plane. At the age of 6, I had gone from Moscow to Kiev, where my grandparents had taken me to have liver sugery. Today circumstances are infinitely more pleasant. I am thinking of my past, without knowing what my future will bring.

In my hometown, I had been working from the age of 11 with my mother, on markets, selling fruit near a bus stop. I had not been much to school, I had to take care of my younger sister, heavily disabled. A french model agency had spoted me in castings in Moscow and had suggested me to come to Paris. I am rushing to with my grandmother's blessing.

I share an aparthotel with another girl in the area of Republique. Down the street I notice the legendary elegance of French women. They are not especially blazing, they wear no outrageous make up, but they express self confidence in a way which looks innate. Young or older, pretty or not, they move with a special bearing. Proud to be women and aware of their power of seduction. The french touch ?

I take part to photocalls, I live modestly. I learnt english before coming, because I've been told it is the fashion international language, I try to talk some words in broken french. Paris is an incredibly beautiful and clean city. Its inhabitants wear joyfull and colorfull clothes.

Last column:

"I, who knew nothing other than Red October, an imitation of eau de toilette, became the model/spokesperson for the prestigious Maison Guerlain. Shalimar... a perfume of dreams, a fragance typical of the most fabulous French parfume makers. This is almost unreal. People don't dream when they carry 5okg fruit boxes around the fruit markets. People don't worry beyond of what they will eat for supper, if they have any.

Since then, I don't stress over tomorrow anymore, but I haven't become a fashion victim combing fashionable stores. I threw myself to work and I have only one goal: to take care of my grandparents while they're alive, to offer them the best care at the American Hospital of Neuilly. I travel around the whole world, but I always come back to France for the fashion shows, above all for my work with Guerlain.

Paris is forever associated with my first discoveries. The smell of the warm baguette, the taste of a great coffee taken in a terrasse. And also France is Romy Schneider's adoptive country, and people tell me that I look a lot like her. I was born the year she died. A woman that beautiful, such a tortured fate. What will mine be like?"

[There might be some translation mistakes here and there... French speakers, please help!]

Thank you for your efforts guys! I cannot wait to have the parts combined in order, it is tantalizing.

This is something new, sensual, tactile - Natalia's first experiences abroad! I have my own of Paris and of course America and I cannot wait to read about hers. The first years are so dear, vivid and unforgettable to me and it seems that they are also such for Natalia!

natalia v.net

Awww! Natalia and Neva having fun together, so cute!:blush:

Loved the pics! Are they candids or for some campaign? Thanks for posting!

Has anyone here ever heard or read anywhere that Natalia's gig for Chanel was controversial inside Chanel USA office??? News to me!

Blake Lively's gig as spokesperson for Chanel's Mademoiselle handbag line has critics 'grumbling'

"Meanwhile, we hear this is not the first time employees within the Chanel USA office have bristled over the choice of an ad-campaign model: Natalia Vodianova's selection for Chanel's beauty campaigns also prompted groans".

I loved that campaign. Natalia was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! But it was indeed a short lived gig, because she was then quickly hired by Guerlain for the following season and their partnership became much more than a simple modelling job.

By the way... why do Chanel USA office employees bristle over anything at all??? <_<
