March 29, 201114 yr She has a double page interview in this UK Best Selling WEEKLY fashion magazine (it comes out every Tuesday) and i have a subscribtion... here is a photo of the article, i dunno if the images feature are new but i read the article and was intrigued, i always thought she was beautiful...but she is also a lovely woman, which makes her even more stunning. & I have typed up the full article as you won't be able to read on the photos i took of the page.... "I'm a Supermodel by Day & A Crime Fighter by Night" She grew up around knife crime, but Natalie Suliman, 25, became a top model. Now she's helping other girl's like her find a future - A typical day in my life can involve annything from strutting down the catwalk to jetting off to South Africa for a week-long swimwear shoot. I travel first class and get paid thousands of pounds a day. But no matter how busy my schedule is, Once a fortnight, i travel back to Islington in north London to meet up with 15 girls I've been mentoring for the past year. The girls, who are from unpriviledged families, come to the local youth club and open their hearts to me. From relationship problems to issues with drugs and sex, the girls tell me everything that's bothering them. They know i'll understand because, until a model scout spotted me at my local swimming pool, when i was 19, I lived a similar life. -I grew up in a single-parent family on a council estate in Islington, where gun and knife crime is rife and teenage pregnancy rates are high. Mum worked so hard to support me and my sister but we struggled with money. Life was tough, but thankfully i was passionate about the career I'd just started as a youth worker with the council. -When i was first discovered, I didn't think the modeling would take off, so i kept my full-time job and squeezed model castings into my lunch hours. At night, I'd go out in a minibus and do outreach work on local estates. I'd give out flyers and tell them I was there for them. I was starting to make progress with a group of vunerable girls in Islington when i landed a massive lingerie campaign with Marks & Spencer. Suddenly pictures of me were plastered over billaboards. My phone rang off the hook and I was signed by Storm Models, booked by top fashion brands and flown around the world on shoots. Unfortunatley, i had to put the youth work on hold, but it worried me that the girls I'd grow so close to were left behind with no one to look out for them. I worried they'd get into drugs, fall pregnant or catch an ST, and i had no control over who they were mixing with. - I knew i had to do something, so i decided to set up a support group- a place where girls could come together to talk openly about their problems. I wanted it to be a sisterhood. Our first meeting was small but incredibly powerful. I told the girls i wanted them to confide in me and within minutes, they were in tears. I applied for some money from the Youth Opportunity Fund and , despite my hectic schedule, I made a huge effort to make time for the girls. I registered the project as a charity, Sky High UK (www.twitter.com/@Skyhi_uk), and through my work contacts, amazingly i managed to persude top celebs like, Kelly Rowland to come in and give the girls a makeover. The girls were really starstruck and excited. I got fashion hairstylists to come in and teach them about jobs in the industry and now i've got a queue of experts waiting to meet the girls. The aim to provide a support network for them to boost their confidence, and help them talk about issues in their lives to stop them going off the rails. - Amazingly, what started as a one-off meeting has now become a regular date in our diaries. We meet every other week for a three hours at a time, and i try to be really honest with them. Sometimes hearing their stories chokes me up. Yes, my life is glamorous, but it's also hard work. Because i come from the same background as them , they see me as a positive role model. I try to be honest with the girls too- I tell them when pictures are airbrushed and I make sure they know that life as a model Isn't one long party. I get tired and lonely on the road, and live on vitamins to stay healthy. Thankfully, I've seen a huge difference in the attiude of the girls that come along week after week. I'd like to think Sky High,has opened their eyes to a new life and has made a difference to how they feel about themseleves. - My dream for Sky High is for it to exsist on a national level, But I don't want to create another youth charity that ticks all the boxes but doesn't do much. Politicians make a lot of decisions for young people nowadays, and I'd like the girls to speak up and get their voices heard. From my time with them, I know they've got a lot to say. wow,, that took a while to type, enjoy!
