Camila Alves McConaughey: three kids is hard work

You might say Camila Alves has it all: three gorgeous kids (3-month-old Livingston; Vida, 3; Levi, 4), a movie star husband ( Matthew McConaughey) and a fabulous career. Did we mention she was super, super nice? Meet Alves, the new brand ambassador for INC, as the Brazilian model/designer stops by Macy’s Aventura 2 p.m. Saturday to host a fashion show. We chatted before her trip:

How do you juggle all that you do?

I think just like any working mother, you have to find a balance in the middle of the chaos ... which sometimes is very hard to do! What’s helped me is having systems in place for my children and then I work around that.

How is it having three kids as opposed to two or one?

Definitely harder! As I mentioned before, systems for each child is super helpful. I had it down pat with two, but I’m starting all over with one while still maintaining the others. Also, add lack of sleep while still running after two young ones, it’s a lot, but I wouldn’t change it a bit. Every day is an adventure.

You had a tough pregnancy and C-section. How are you staying in shape?

I’m still a few weeks away from being able to do any intense workouts so Im just watching my eating habits, trying to stay away from dairy, and drinking lots and lots of water. I’ve been eating really healthy foods: lots of vegetables and protein. Though I can’t kick my chocolate craving and still allow that as a cheat.

What do you like to do while in Miami?

I look for the best Latin restaurants in town to get the fix for my rice and beans.

What do you think of the style here?

The bright colors, all the accessories, and being fearless enough to show lots of skin reminds me of Brazil, for sure!

I Tried It: A Wax That Gives You Camila Alves Brows

This season is all about thick, groomed brows – never messy, always full. But how can we get that runway-ready look at home, without the help of a pro? Enter Marco Ochoa, a Mexican and Salvadoran American from Los Angeles who began his love affair with threading at age 15. Now he’s the trusted brow expert of Camila Alves (among other celebs), so when I heard he was launching the EcoBrow Defining Wax ($24,evolubeauty.com), I immediately requested a sample. Because who doesn’t want Camila’s brows?

The wax, which is mineral-based and has vitamin E, comes in four shades, each an homage to one of Marco’s favorite Hollywood screen sirens: Blonde/Marilyn, Auburn/Rita, Brunette/Penelope, and Dark Brunette/Liz. (I’m a Penelope.)

I lightly dabbed the wax using an angled brush (Marco sells his own, double-sided EcoBrow Duo Angle/Spooley Brush for $21). I didn’t overdo the dabbing because a little goes a long way. Then I applied it using short, gentle strokes in the direction of the hair. The product seemed to glide easily and wasn’t sticky, like some waxes. To finish the look, I used the spooley side to brush my brows upward and make sure the wax blended in nicely. After a few hours of running around, I noticed my brows hadn’t smeared, proving the wax’s smudge-proof claim true (it touts silica for oil absorption). And it looked very natural – unlike my college roommate who always overdid it with the pencil (bless her heart!).

There aren’t too many brow waxes on the market, and the few good ones that I do know of are not paraben-free—which is another reason I’m loving EcoBrow.

Camila McConaughey: I’m Always Running to Breastfeed

Just three months after delivering son Livingston, Camila Alves McConaughey is already back at work, promoting a new Macy’s I.N.C. line as the brand’s spokesmodel, but she’s the first to admit it’s not easy.

“It’s hard to be back to work with such full force early on because your brain is not fully there. You have baby brain,” she jokes to PEOPLE.

“I was on The View answering a question and halfway through, I lost my train of thought. You just laugh at it.”

Part of returning to her schedule includes striking a balance between her professional duties and tending to her children, including nursing her baby boy.

“It’s three little ones that need mom all at the same time,” Alves McConaughey, 30, says. “I’m running to dinner, running back to breastfeed, go do this, run back to breastfeed, breastfeed all night, start your day at 5 a.m., lack of sleep — all of it.”

One component the multitasking mom seems to have nailed down is regaining her post-baby body, the look of which Alves McConaughey says she’s achieved with pieces from the I.N.C. collection.

“There’s a few items I absolutely love,” she says. “They have this one pair of white denim that’s really stretchy and feels really soft. I grew up with stretchy denim and it’s really hard to find in the United States. It gives you a good backside, I must say.”

“The peplum is a great top that they have,” she adds. “If you’re trying to hide something in the belly area, it’s very forgiving as well.”

Following her work commitments, the model will return to husband Matthew McConaughey‘s home state of Texas, which the family moved back to in 2012.

“It’s great for [Levi, 4½, and Vida, 3] because they really get to have a regular life,” she says of trading Los Angeles for Austin.

“People are not looking at them — they’re not impressed by anything. You go inside of a restaurant, no one’s turning their faces, looking at the door every five minutes to see who’s coming in. Everybody’s really doing their own thing.”

But while the family’s move may have been inspired by Austin’s abiding of Matthew’s “just keep livin’” philosophy, there’s one thing that Alves McConaughey admits wasn’t:

“No! We never made that [connection],” she says of the inspiration behind son Livingston’s name.

We'd Marry Camila Alves

The gorgeous Camila Alves is not only the mother of Matthew McConaughey's children and his wife, but she's also the brand ambassador for Macy's popular I.N.C. line. The Brazilian-born model and designer was recently in Manhattan and called your Daily to fill us in on her tony gig. We even restrained from asking too many questions about Matthew...

In our research on you we discovered there’s another famous Camila Alves. Do people get you confused a lot?

I don’t know if people get confused, but there is another Brazilian girl who is a model. I don’t know how but some of her website pages end up with my pictures on it. So I don’t know who is doing that. [laughs] But it does happen. I actually knew her sister from back in the day.

Let’s talk Macy’s! What's your role exactly as ‘Brand Ambassador’?

They came to me about the partnership about two seasons ago, so I went to a Macy’s store to figure out what the brand was all about. People sent me to the plus size section…and I thought to myself ‘ok, that’s a different take on how they are going to market this’, you know? I became familiar with the brand and realized that they really do have all sizes for women, which was something that made me fall in love with the brand. All of those things spoke to me. Everything that I do in my real life; personally and with my handbag designs, I always try to include every type of woman in it. The fact that we had a similar philosophy made this a no brainer for me.

What's the I.N.C. brand?

It’s basically a head-to-toe brand. They provide jewelry, apparel, shoes; they are going to be doing handbags and are doing home which was just added to their collection. The way that they do home is basically everything they do with fashion but incorporate that into bedding.

We saw you on The View last week! How was that?

It was a very special experience because it’s a very big show. The women were amazing. Whoopi [Goldberg] came in the dressing room before the show and gave me one of the nicest hugs that I’ve had in a really long time. It was one of those hugs that energize you. Then we go on the air, and everyone was so kind and so sweet. It was an honor being there. I just wish that I didn’t have my ‘baby brain’ when I was there. You know, it's life and my brain is not fully there yet…I started talking and didn’t finish the thought but it’s just part of it.

How's motherhood besides the baby brain?

It’s the biggest blessing you could have, but it’s hectic. I have a four and half year old, a three year old and a two and a half month baby. One second I will be in the shower washing my hair and then the baby will cry and then I'll get out of the shower and breastfeed with shampoo in my hair. It’s tricky, but I do my best.

How many hours of sleep are you getting?

Not much. Every night is different. Some nights, we get a good rest…some nights we don’t. You know, they are so little. Every single sound they make, you wake up to check on them and make sure it's okay. I do have help with the baby because I am working.

What else is new?

I have a handbag line that I do with my mother, which we have been doing for about eight years now. We have an accessible line on QVC and are getting ready to do my first back-to-air show hopefully in September. We don’t have the date locked yet. We also have the foundation where we are putting together a gold tournament with concerts and a fashion show. All kinds of fun stuff!

How many times have you watched Matthew in Magic Mike?

I’ve only watched it three times. I watched the first director's cut in a room with me, Matthew, and another friend. Then I saw it at the L.A. premiere and then the London premiere. I am very involved and am such a big part in Matthew’s work and stuff. I was there on set…and the day that he was doing the huge strip routine, I had flown in from Brazil. I went straight from the airport to the set. I was hiding in the back so that he wouldn’t know I was there. I was like ‘there’s no way I am missing this!’ When he was done, I surprised him and he cracked up. It was quite a scene.

We're very jealous of that experience. Is he living on junk food to get his weight back up?

No, no, no. We try to be pretty good about things like that. Since he’s lost so much, he needs to gain in a healthy way.

Supermodel Camila Alves and Cosmopolitan for Latinas Hosts INC Fashion Show and Shopping Event at Macy’s Aventura

By: Tara Lynn Hubbard – Event Correspondent

post-42244-0-1445990287-48964_thumb.jpg

On Saturday, March 16 INC International Concepts hosted a fashion show event to debut their new Spring 2013 collection at Macy’s Aventura in Miami, FL. INC Brand Ambassador Camila Alves hosted the fashion show with Cosmopolitan for Latinas Beauty Editor Milly Almodóvar.

When I arrived on the scene, I was immediately greeted by cheerful staff who directed me to my front row seat and was welcomed with some swanky tunes from a live DJ. The show promptly began by Macy’s store manager, Patrick Malambri, greeting an eager crowd full of fashionistas. He assured us all that we will be seeing Spring seasons “must haves” from I.N.C. that would feature Spring ready‐to‐wear, handbags, shoes and jewelry.

Camila and Milly revealed the Spring 2013 INC collection names as the models strutted down the runway. The names in the collection were Ibiza, Flourish, and Abstract. These collections had consistent trends present such as metallic accessories, white denim, and lace. Milly loved the arm bangle trend and also urged the crowd not to be afraid to mix and match patterns and prints this season. She said, “It’s springtime lets mix things up and have fun with it!

As the runway show came to a close, Camila made sure the fun didn’t stop there. She began to announce the five lucky contest winners who won $100 Macy’s gift cards. Once finished, she then announced the grand prize winner. One lucky guest would win an on‐the‐spot Macy’s INC shopping spree with Camila Alves, Cosmopolitan for Latinas’ Milly Almodóvar, and an INC specialist. ($500 value).

The winner of the $500 shopping spree was.. drumroll please…. ME! icon_biggrin.gif

I was immediately whisked on stage and met with countless camera flashes taking pictures of Camila, Milly and me. I spent the next three hours sipping champagne, getting treated to a delicious array of food, having a personal INC stylist shop for me, chatting with all of INC and Macy’s staff, and hanging out with Camila Alves!

I couldn’t have asked for a more fabulous Saturday. Camila helped me pick out some different INC styles that I had viewed earlier on the runway. Camila was a down-to-earth person and she even shared with me on how she began her modeling career. I chatted behind the scenes with INC’s marketing director, Cynthia Reyes, who gave me some interesting exclusive insider info about the brand. Such as how INC is a private Macy’s brand, last year was their first year launching jewelry, and during this event they launched their handbag collection making the Macy’s in Aventura the first store to do so.

I was happy I attended this fabulous event (not even counting the fact that I won the contest). Camila Alves and Milly Almodóvar were great hosts and I was honored to get a sneek peak of the Spring 2013 INC collection.

Red Carpet Confidential: How Camila Alves Got Her Body Back After Baby #3

Since giving birth to her third child, Livingston, in December, Camila Alves has been unable to exercise due to medical complications.

Still, the wife of Matthew McConaughey has bounced back beautifully.

Not only does she watch her diet, but she also adheres to the Brazilian tradition of “wrapping” her abdomen, which is a practice she also followed after giving birth to Levi, 4, and Vida, 3.

“In Brazil, you leave the hospital wrapped,” the model/reality star, 31, tells me during the Macy’s INC Spring Collection event at Crosby Street Hotel in NYC. “They wrap you. It’s something my mother told me to do. It’s uncomfortable, but it does help to get your waist and your belly, everything back into shape.”

She continues, “This is the thing, though. It’s hard to find a wrap that holds your stomach—all the wraps that they have out there, that I tried, were too short, so it doesn’t get your full waist.”

She explains her routine.

“I usually do a thick gauze, and you wrap. You have to have somebody to help you wrap around. You can lay down so that it’s flat, and you can wrap it really good, or you get a medical one. It has to be something that gets your whole waist.”

Hm, for how long did she wrap?

“As long as I could take it, I would do it,” she confesses. “Sometimes I would sleep with it. It depends on the day. If I was comfortable, I’d have it on all day. If I was not, just two minutes.”

Still, it hasn’t been belly band alone for the self-confessed sweet addict.

“Diet has been a big thing,” she says. “This recovery has been tough. I had other health issues taken care of at the same time of delivering the baby, so I’ve been pretty much all stitched up inside. I’ve got a long time to recover now, so no exercise.”

She continues, “It’s just been diet. Finding the right things to eat; eating often—every three hours, four hours; lots of water. I also used this thing called BioMat that’s an infra-red mat, and you sleep on it, you can lay on it. It supposedly helps you to recover, but it also helps you lose weight, too.”

Hm, what are the staples of her diet?

“I’m having lean proteins with a chili with spinach, and I’ll do a small amount of carbs,” she says. “Just a handful because with the breastfeeding, I have to have some. Usually we do that at dinner, and then at daytime, I’ll have a salad, and then I’ll add carbs into that. Maybe I’ll throw brown rice into it. In the morning, I’ll do three egg whites with some fruit, or I’ll mix and match. It’s everything lean.”

Listen to the entire Camila Alves McConaughey CYInterview:

http://www.cyintervi...-fashion-maven/

Beauty, Balance and the Art of Trying to Have it All! Camila Alves McConaughey, Wife of Matthew McConaughey and Face of INC Talks about Being a Mother, Model and Fashion Maven

amila Alves McConaughey is kind, ambitious and insightful. She is making her mark as a fashion visionary, entrepreneur, model, face of a major brand, mother of three and wife of A-list actor Matthew McConaughey.

For our CYInterview, Camila, the face of Macy’s biggest brand INC, wore a sexy white dress from INC’s spring line. She spoke about some of her fashion insights and things she learned on her journey to success and happiness, in our sit down conversation.

Small world that it is, the Brazilian beauty shares a connection to CYInterview regular Mike Leach.

Last year, Coach Leach shared with us a story about the pirate sword he gave Matthew and Camila for a wedding present. In this CYInterview, she shares what she thought when she and Matthew opened that unique present.

You can read the highlights and listen to the entire CYInterview with Camila Alves McConaughey below:

Speaking about being a brand ambassador for INC and why she enjoys their clothes, Camila said this:

“It’s their [Macy’s] biggest brand. It’s very exciting and it’s an honor to be a part of them. What I love so much about the brand is that the brand includes every type of women. They cover all sizes. They go from plus size to petite. They, every woman can find one piece or more pieces in the line because they cover all sense of style and they cover all ages. And that’s something that in my personal life, in my designing with the handbags, everything I do, I want to include everybody. So that’s like right away was the very natural, you know partnership.”

The mother of three says she’s working to find the balance between her professional goals and motherhood:

“Not yet. But I’m working on it. I’m working on it. You know it’s very hectic having three kids. The little baby, you know just so young still. And I had my systems down for two. Now I’m learning to create the systems for three. You know so I’ll be there soon. I’ll be there soon at the balance.”

When the Brazilian fashionista came to America, she did not speak a word of English. Camila’s story of coming to the U.S., where she started out working in restaurants and cleaning houses, is a great example of someone who saw opportunity in every moment on the path to her goals. Sharing some of that journey with us, Camila provides advice and lessons for others who want to achieve something:

“I think the main thing, there’s a few things. You know, when people tell you no, don’t let that change the course of what you want to do in life. It can maybe guide you in a different direction, but you still keep your goal going to what your main goal is. Then another thing is that don’t rely in others to get to where you want to go. You know I feel like sometimes you know we get stuck with thinking, oh this person is gonna help me, this person is gonna do that for me, I’m gonna you know. No. You have to do it for yourself and that if people help you along the way, blessings from the sky. You’re thankful for that. You’re grateful for that. But you have to do the hard work. Nobody else is going to do it for you.

And another thing is for the Latin community that I think one thing that really helped me was that, you know, when I first moved here, I didn’t speak a word of English and I remember my uncle at the time, I was always like you know looking towards where’s the Brazilians, where are the Brazilians. And my uncle say, ‘No. You are not in Brazil, you’re in the United States. You know, here you have to hang out with people who are from here so you can learn their culture, their language and you can you know make your way.’ And I thought that was really important tip that he gave me, something that I followed because sometimes you get so stuck with that own culture that you don’t expand your horizons if that makes sense.”

In June of last year, Matthew McConaughey told Jay Leno on The Tonight Show about the unique pirate sword wedding gift he and Camila received from CYInterview regular Coach Mike Leach. Here’s Mike’s take on the event. We’ve heard Matthew and the Coach’s side of the story and now it’s time to hear Camila’s take:

“Mike Leach and his wife [sharon], they’re great people. They’re great people. You know I have only great things to say about them and it was something when we opened that gift. It was like, ok, a sword. And we’re like, who’s this from? And before we had opened the card we were like, we have a pretty good idea who this card is from. You know it was definitely special and unique.”
