Tiffany Dawn Nicholson Quote Every week, Bazaar's booking team highlights one name to note, from the industry's best-known faces to girls who are just starting out. This week, we turn our attention to Georgia Fowler. With several packed seasons under her belt, Georgia Fowler is no stranger to the runway; but the last year has seen this designer favourite go from strength to strength, thanks only in part to her cool New Zealander looks. The 24-year-old is one of only a handful of models – alongside Joan Smalls, Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner – whose chameleon looks can be transformed from the couture catwalks of Chanel and Marchesa, where delicacy and refined poise are required, to the high-octane, super-sexy world of the Victoria's Secret show, giving Fowler a unique and covetable position in the industry. "Georgia epitomises modern beauty," says Billy Thurlow at IMG London. "She's a crossover between a commercial babe who also triumphs at editorial and runway." With her glossy tousled hair, flawless figure and big blue eyes, Fowler may just be one of our new favourite models. And since she has shot for Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, as well as walking for Alberta Ferretti, Miu Miu and Topshop, it seems the industry agrees. We chat to the newcomer about an alternative career in engineering, Pilates and her native New Zealand. How were you discovered? "My sister was scouted and I was too young to be left alone so I went into the agency with her and my mum, and was signed on too." If you weren't modelling, which career would you pursue and why? "I would possibly be an engineer, I loved maths, design and science. I studied a BSc for the first four years I was travelling, but it became too demanding as my modelling work became busier. Hopefully I can finish it off one day." What would you say has been the highlight of your career so far? "Walking for Victoria's Secret and Miu Miu, shooting French and Italian Vogue, Love Magazine and shooting the cover of Australian Harper's Bazaar." How do you spend your free time? "Café Hop. I love to meet friends for coffee and food, or wine if it's after five." Do you have any travel tips for those visiting your home town? "In Sydney you've got to do the Bronte Coastal walk or visit the beaches south of Sydney – they're idyllic. In Auckland you must take a ferry to Waiheke Island and do a winery tour. The West Coast beaches are breathtaking; the black sand with rugged terrain and huge surf isn't like any other beach in the world. There are also many beautiful hiking trails like Fairy Falls hike to get in touch with nature and smell the freshest air you'll find." What are the three products you can't live without? "Glossier Boy Brow, Oribe cream and my Nuxe lip balm." What is your favourite form of exercise? "I try to mix up my work-outs daily to keep the body guessing and make it interesting for myself. Try classes, they're motivating and often make you work harder than you would yourself. In New York, I mix in reformed Pilates like SLT (Strengthen, Lengthen, Tone), boxing at Overthrow or Rumble, personal training with Rob at Gotham, or a good spin or weights class at Equinox." What is your dream shoot? "Dream shoots are on a beach, it's where I feel most at peace, although I love becoming a different character and dressing up in obscure locations. The best shoots are always the ones where you're working with amazing teams of friends." Name your five essential items you wouldn't leave the house without? "Lip balm, phone, my book – whether I open it up to read or not is another story – credit cards because I'm an unplanned shopaholic and my gym gear just in case I get the urge for a last-minute Pilates session." If you had to wear only one designer, who would it be? "Tough. I think I'd have to say Saint Laurent because I could find both casual jeans and a T-shirt with a blazer look and also a sexy black leather dress; plus the shoes are always classics." What kind of advice would you give to new girls to the industry? "Don't give up and don't take rejection personally, casting for jobs does have a direction and it's not always about whether you're the most beautiful or not. (If you succeed in this, tell me how.)" Is there a model's career that you admire and why? "I admire models like Elle Macpherson who have created businesses with their name. I would love to work alongside brands collaborating in the future or create a product for my own company. I also admire Natalia Vodianova because of her charitable work." What is your life motto? "Be kind." Let's talk about favourites. What about… …music? "A Tribe Called Quest." …movies? "A recent favourite is Hunt for the Wilderpeople, a gorgeous New Zealand film you will giggle your way through." …books? "Little Bee by Chris Cleave." …food?
