Yeah well at least this one has already a script lol I would actually like/prefer seeing Leo as the gangster/mobster.

Martin Scorsese to Direct ‘Midnight Vendetta’ — Tackles 1890 Mafia in New Orleans

I’m told that Martin Scorsese has a project currently in development that has yet to be reported on, and compared to some of the other projects he has going, it actually has a completed script.

Scorsese’s tentatively titled “Midnight Vendetta,” which just had its script submitted by the great Eric Roth (“The Insider,” “Munich”), will tackle the Mafia’s arrival in New Orleans around 1890, which marked the first major foothold of organized Italian crime in the United States.

Sicilian immigrants, many fleeing poverty and violence back home, settled in the city’s port neighborhoods, bringing with them old-world networks and rivalries. Tensions quickly escalated between local authorities and the growing Italian community, culminating in the infamous murder of Police Chief David Hennessy in 1890.

Hennessy reportedly blamed “the Dagoes” with his dying breath, triggering one of the largest lynchings in U.S. history when a mob stormed the jail and killed 11 Italian men, some with suspected Mafia ties. This event thrust the Sicilian Mafia into the national spotlight and etched New Orleans into the origin story of organized crime in America.

No surprise, I’m told Leonardo DiCaprio is yet again attached to this latest Scorsese project, although no deal has been signed. Roth previously worked with Scorsese, writing one of the later drafts of “Killers of the Flower Moon.”

Scorsese, 82, is currently working on a wide array of projects, and what might be his next film is still very much up for debate. Many of them, including “Devil in the White City” and the untitled Dwayne Johnson Hawaiian mob movie, don’t have a finished script. “Midnight Vendetta” does.

It was just a week ago that we learned Leonardo DiCaprio decided to drop out of Damien Chazelle’s “Evel Knievel Goes on Tour,” which was supposed to shoot this summer, to prioritize a new Scorsese. It seems like something is definitely imminent.

I’m unsure if Chazelle’s film will ever come to fruition, but I trust Leo’s judgment. Chazelle has struggled to deliver a strong film since La La Land.

As Scorsese’s muse, it’s no surprise Leo is prioritizing that project.

I knew from the beginning that this role wasn't for him!

Martin Scorsese's ‘Midnight Vendetta' Confirmed by Eric Roth

Shout out to Jan who uncovered a recent Eric Roth interview, and sent it over. Roth, an Oscar winner, confirms that he’s written a script for Martin Scorsese to potentially direct. I was told it’s called “Midnight Vendetta.” Here’s a rough transcript of what he says about the project:

So, I just finished a script about the mafia coming to New Orleans in 1890, I’m doing it for Marty […] I’m interested in vengeance and what it means. This thing I’m writing for Marty right now is about what we were brought up to be we end up being in a way. These people were brought up in 1860-1870 Sicily. They were part of this mafia, and they continued on […] I have this scene where our hero — I’m not sure if he’s actually heroic — but anyway the lead of our film wants vengeance on the rival Don, and he comes sneaking into an Opera, while the Opera is going, and slits the throat of his enemy.

Now, whether this film ever gets made is a whole other story, but it’s definitely something Scorsese is serious about as he’s gone as far as to task Roth to write the script.

So, what will be Scorsese’s next film. We know his Hawaii mob crime movie is only supposed to shoot in 2026, according to Dwayne Johnson, and “Sinatra” has most likely been canned. What’s left is “Midnight Vendetta,” “Home,” “Devil in the White City,” and “Life of Jesus,” or he just waits it out until 2026 and shoots the Johnson-starring film.
