A few early 80s advertising photos restored to match original film quality. I think they hold up quite well and don’t look dated.

These look excellent. Did you work from scanned images on paper? I'm interested in your workflow. I scan the ads from bridal magazines (54,000 so far!) and post them on a Tumblr blog. The scanning software (Epson) does a respectable job of eliminating the moire from the scanning process but I'd like to do better.

Yes I used scans I made at high resolution and then instruct AI models such as ChatGPT or Gemini to:

1) Remove print, aging damage and compression artifacts.

2) Upscale conservatively.

3) Ensure Paulina’s face, expression, pose, hair, body proportions, and composition must remain identical. This has to be double checked with the original reference image.

4) Do not invent detail, modernize the image, over-sharpen it, or turn it into an AI recreation.

5) Restore it match the fidelity of the original film stock which looks different than digital camera photos.

Note that currently this only works well one photo at a time.

Hope this helps.

These are excellent. What DPI are your original scans AND what size (pixel dimensions) will the AI service accept? Do you have a link?

Thanks for all of this.
Rob.

I think 300 dpi is more than sufficient for magazines. Have not found real limits with the AI platforms, though huge file sizes will likely take longer to process. I would just download the ChatGPT app to get started since it has the advantage of not putting in watermarks.

Thanks! I'll let you know how it goes.

The one in blue is Laura Wie.

Argent ad from the May 18th 1986 New York Times Magazine. Never seen this one before. The large print size took several scans and a lot of processing to fit into one image.

Restored this 2 pager magazine scan into one photo without gaps.

For seamless and easy-peasy stitching I use PTGUI. It used to be free and open source and cost nothing. Did I mention that it used to be completely free? Yes, it cost exactly zero dollars to use. Then they got greedy and it's now over 500 bucks Canadian for a personal license.
Thankfully there's pirate sites.

(hint, hint, wink, wink)

Another series of restored scans. Some greatly improve quality while others remove text.
