I use a cloth and vacuum cleaner. Every couple of months, I open the desktop and remove the chassis fans (that I clean with a q tip). I don't like doing it but if there's too much dust, especially on the radiator, it's bad for the PC. Yep, I do. It's less expensive and more fun
What I should do more often is clean the dust......
It's not that hard. For Chassis fans, you have to be careful with airflow directions. The directions of the fans should act together. Usually it's pretty easy, because the air comes from the front and is blown out in the back of the tower. You have towers with more complex, but the manuals are very explicit about how to optimize the airflows. In the past cable management was a pain, because cables could disrupt airflow, but modern towers provide a space to isolate them and secure them with zip ties. For the CPU fan (or watercooling), the only thing to be careful with is thermal paste (but it's not that hard: you just put a nut or a X cross on the CPU and then you add the fan => done).
I have a tower (desktop PC) with 4 chassis fans. The tower itself has optimized air flow paths and I have watercooling on my CPU (cooler master). I like watercooling, but you gotta chose some reliable gear (cause the cheapest ones can break easily) and depending on the prices it's not always the best solution. Having good fans / cooling system is key if you want to overclock your PC.
