  2. Francis Ford Coppola Calls Martin Scorsese “The World’s Greatest Living Filmmaker” In celebration of this month’s release for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” a critics poll of Martin Scorsese’s best films should be published next week. What film will top the poll? “Taxi Driver”? “Raging Bull”? “Goodfellas”? Francis Ford Coppola went on Instagram to rave about his friend’s new film, but has also distinguished Scorsese with a title that I would say many of our readers could agree on: “My longtime friend [Martin Scorsese] has a new film coming out this month, “Killers of the Flower Moon” — He is a wonderful person and the world’s greatest living filmmaker. His new film delivers on every level.” So, “the world’s greatest living filmmaker.” I believe that’s not any sort of reach on the part of Coppola. Scorsese is a legend, a national treasure, and we’re lucky to be alive at a time when he’s still making films at this fairly top-notch kind of level. What other legendary filmmaker still alive today matches Scorsese’s towering filmography? I can’t think of any. Some of the other great ones include Spielberg, Lynch, PTA, Malick, Coen, Eastwood, Allen, Polanski, Almodovar, Haneke and Coppola himself (who would be a close second in my books), but none have had the kind of impressive longevity.
  3. I'm always hyped for a new Leo movie. But this time I have to say expectations are even higher than usual. Can't wait for next thursday
  4. Spike Lee Says Lily Gladstone Deserves to Win the Oscar: “She’s Got My Vote” Lily Gladstone was said to be the Supporting Actress frontrunner for her wonderful turn in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” but that’s no more. Gladstone was submitted as Lead Actress by Apple, a total surprise move on the streamer’s part. Spike Lee has seen “Killers of the Flower Moon” and thinks it’s a “great film.” He also believes that Gladstone can win the Oscar, calling her performance a “lead role”: “Well, you know, Scorsese, that’s my guy. “Killers of the Flower Moon” is a great film. That Native American woman, Lily Gladstone, she’s winning an Oscar. And I don’t think that’s a supporting role. I think that’s a leading role. She’s got my vote.” I will admit that Gladstone’s performance in ‘Killers’ is very much a supporting turn, but the film is 206 minutes and she does have a lot of screen time. It helps that her sad-eyed performance as Lily Burkhart is absolutely sublime. In fact, Lily is the emotional center of the story. It makes sense.

  6. Fingers crossed 🤞 SAG and AMPTP Restart Negotiations, Meeting Again on Wednesday SAG-AFTRA sat down with the studios last night and restarted talks on a deal for the actors. After last week’s WGA deal, there’s some much-needed positivity in the air. Of course, nothing is for certain, but this week is an essential one for a deal to happen. Both parties are meeting again today. If SAG-AFTRA and the studios reach some kind of deal then you can bet this site will be loaded with more scoops than ever. Whenever actors are allowed to go back to work again, there’s going to be a major production boom occurring in Hollywood.
  7. I liked it. Nothing you "just watch" without thinking about it later.

  12. Martin Scorsese Praises Leonardo DiCaprio’s Maturing & Courage (Exclusive) On Wednesday night, “Extra’s” Mona Kosar Abdi spoke to famed director Martin Scorsese on the red carpet for the “Killers of the Flower Moon” NYC premiere event. Scorsese opened up about why he wanted to tell the story and about teaming up with Leonardo DiCaprio yet again. Martin commented, “I've been lucky enough to meet him years ago. We worked on ‘Gangs of New York’ and he happened to like my films a lot, especially with Bob De Niro… What happened over the years, we got to trust each other on ‘Aviator’ and then on ‘Departed,’ and after that what began to happen… as he's growing as a young man into an older man… his maturing in reality in life is reflected in his work, and he's maturing in his work.” “I find I can even give more from him because he's got… a lot of courage and incredible amount of talent… He's got the perfect face for cinema,” Scorsese noted. “He doesn't have to say anything, you know, his looks, his eyes look a certain [way]. I know it because we edit the film.” Their new film is based on a true story about a Native American massacre over their oil rich land in Oklahoma that led to the formation of the F.B.I. The movie also features a breakout performance from Lily Gladstone as Leo's character Ernest's wife Mollie. Should Gladstone receive an Oscar nomination for her work, as industry buzz predicts, she would become the first Native American woman nominated for Best Actress. As for why it was important to tell the story now, Marty explained, “We don’t want to give a history lesson, a civic lesson, or preach a sermon… I took the story and placed it in the most intimate setting, and we saw it through the lens of a marriage between Mollie and Ernest, which is based on the real story, too.” “Killers of the Flower Moon” in theaters October 20. 13. Martin Scorsese Details Working With Leonardo DiCaprio and How He's Matured as an Actor (Exclusive) 'As he changes in life, he's changing on film,' the director told ET. Martin Scorsese loves working with Leonardo DiCaprio. ET spoke to the famed director at the New York City premiere of his latest film, Killers of the Flower Moon, and he praised the actor for his growth as an actor over the years. "He has range. He keeps growing. He also has a lot of courage," Scorsese told ET. "I know he'll go to places that other people might pull back from... I've been working with him over the years he's been growing as a person. He's maturing from a young kid to a young man. As he changes in life, he's changing on film." The 1920s-set crime drama, which recounts the serial killings of the Osage Nation after oil was discovered on their tribal land, also stars Robert DeNiro, with whom Scorsese has now worked 10 times. "Just hanging around together on the set," Scorsese said, is one of the perks of working with his longtime pal. "For him to take on a character like this, there are friends of mine who saw the film and have known Bob for years... they told me after seeing the film that for the first half hour and 40 minutes they didn't realize it was Bob. And they know him!" Scorsese said with a laugh. "It's hysterical. I said, 'You must be joking.' No! They thought it was somebody [else]." The film premiered at Cannes in June and received a nine-minute-long standing ovation at the festival. Scorsese noted that he's "very excited by the warm reception" that the movie has received. "I'm very excited about how the film plays tonight and how the word spreads before the picture opens," he said. "I really want [people] to see it on a big screen in a theater if you can." Source
