Interview with Ao-Ao
Interview by Lewis Wilde in April 2013
Towards the back end of last year, we came across the work of Houston born model Taylor Hannum through the guys at Nous. Since then, we’ve been keeping track of all her work and it’s easy to see why she’s so in demand right now. It’s with her inevitable explosion onto the scene, and her highly entertaining Twitter feed, that we had to secure Taylor for our ‘One on One with a Model’ interview series. In it, we spoke about getting hit on, owning a bakery, models to look out for and Tex-Mex, of course. Check our interview with Taylor below and be sure to follow her on every social media site under the sun.
Name?
Taylor Marie Hannum
Age?
22
Where were you born?
Houston, Texas
Where are you based?
Los Angeles
Agency?
Nous Model Management / FORD NYC
When did you start modelling?
I was first signed with an agency when I was 17.
What’s been your proudest moment so far?
Everything I have accomplished I am proud of, but I am not sure I can speak of my proudest moment so far .. You’ll find out soon.
3 Highs and 3 Lows of Modelling?
Highs:
I’ve gotten to see so much of the world that I never in a million years thought was possible for me.
I’ve met so many amazing people that have all affected my life in some way.
I’m living out my dream! Not many people get the change to do so, and I feel so privileged to be able to do what I do.
Lows:
It’s so hard being away from my family. I miss them everyday.
Not truly having a ‘home’. I feel like a little nomad just wondering about month to month.
I miss all all of the food back home in Texas, haha! That is probably the lowest low when it comes for me and my job. All of the Tex-Mex, BBQ, Whataburger, Shipley’s Donuts, crawfish, kolaches, mmm mmm, soo yummy!
How close is the sterotypical view of a model’s life to the real deal?
As far as stereotypes go, I think people believe we live this glamorous life filled with lavish parties and constant free clothes. In some aspects, they are indeed correct. But what they don’t realize is all of the traveling and being away from loved ones that we do daily. Traveling alone isn’t exactly fun or glamorous. And no matter what obstacle is in front of you (freezing/scorching weather, high winds, scary props, etc.), you have to get the shot. You’re basically a life-size Barbie for the client with a whole crew staring at and touching you. It is a beautiful life, but we endure downfalls probably more than people think we do.
Who would be your dream model to shoot with?
Cindy Crawford is one of my idols and it’d be an absolute dream to shoot with her.
Who would be your dream photoghrapher to work with?
Mario Testino. All of his work is gorgeous and inspirational.
Who would be your dream brand to work for?
Many models aspire to be a Guess girl or Sports Illustrated model, (which would be a dream come true for any of us!), but one of my all-time dreams is to be on the cover of Vogue. There is just something so classically beautiful about a cover of Vogue. And one other dream would be a hair campaign. Hairstylists harp on me about it every time they do my hair! One day, one day.
Do you prefer video / photo shoots?
I love both, but I think I enjoy video just a little bit more because as a model you have the ability to be more fluid and show more personality thru the video. The consumer also has the chance to see more of you versus a two-dimensional shot.
Models to look out for?
She’s probably already on your radar but if not, do yourself a favor and Google Sara Sampaio. She is a stunner.
Favourite city in the world?
I’ve been to many places in the world and I can honestly say nothing compares to Miami Beach. If you’ve never gone there, you should buy a plane ticket now.
Away from modelling, how do you spend your time?
I’m pretty much a nerd and probably too smart for my own good, haha. But I love to read! Any type of mystery/suspense, love story or classic novel is right up my alley. I also enjoy writing. I went to school for journalism for a short while, so sometimes you’ll catch me with my head in my notebook. And of course, I love spending time with family/friends/pets when I have the chance.
If someone said you have to stop modelling right now, what job would you do?
I would start my own bakery, hands down. I could literally bake for days on end and never tire of it. It is ultimately a dream of mine later in life to have my own bakery/cafe. Not sure what I would call it yet… Taylor’s Texas Treats? Because there would be Southern influence, of course. Haha.
Favourite album of this year?
Paramore’s self-titled album that was just released. I’m a Paramore junkie. I could be in a terrible mood and hear just one of their songs and immediately start singing along. And I secretly want to be Hayley Williams.
Three websites you’re always on?
Twitter (my news source), Netflix (the only way I get my Office fix in daily) and Facebook (easiest way to stay in touch with loved ones).
If you had to blow $100,000 in one day, what would you do?
I honestly would give it all to my parents. I feel like doing anything else with it would just be silly. I suppose I’d give a chunk of it to a charity with a great cause for animals (I’m a HUGE animal lover). But other than that, my parents deserve to blow $100,000 more than I do.
Plans for summer?
I don’t have any major plans for summer just yet. For now, I’ll be going to Cancun at the end of May for vacation and frequenting Miami Beach throughout the summer.
Are you constantly getting hit on?
Haha, I’m pretty sure every woman gets hit on daily. I’ve learned to take it with a grain of salt, however there are those times when you’re like, “Really? Today? Are you serious?”. But sometimes I’ll throw it back in their face and ask them if that’s the best they can come up with, because let me tell you, the men in this world have some utterly ridiculous pick-up lines. Then there are the times when the poor guy is so nervous and I can’t help but feel bad and I give in. I’m too nice!
And these are the pictures they put along with the interview, I tried to find the source for each but came up empty handed.
