  2. Agent: Bojan won't leave Barcelona The agent of Barcelona youngster Bojan Krkic is adamant that his client will not be leaving during the January transfer window. The Barca academy product has been warming the bench for the majority of the season so far, well below the pecking order behind the likes of superstars David Villa and Lionel Messi. His lack of match action has prompted speculation that Bojan would be shipped out on a short term loan in order to rack up more minutes on the pitch. The forward is not short of admirers either with the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Juventus, Liverpool and Inter Milan all believed to be interested in him. However, Bojan's agent Zoran Vekic has squashed the possibility of any move for his young starlet. He stated to publication Sport: "Bojan will not leave. The club would not accept it. Next summer we will analyse the situation again and we will see, but for now he is happy at Barcelona. "He is not getting many minutes but every time he gets an opportunity he has played very well. He managed to get a goal against Real Sociedad at the weekend." Should he decide to quit Pep Guardiola's team however, Bojan will not be short of offers to join the powerhouses of Europe.

  4. Espanyol vs Barcelona Preview Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes sees tomorrow's Catalan derby at Espanyol as one of the most difficult games of the season. Barca have won all of their away matches in the Primera Division so far this term and have dropped only five points in total, but Espanyol boast a flawless record at Cornella this season and usually do well in this fixture. "It's one of the most difficult and complicated games of the year, just as it has been in previous years," the goalkeeper said. "We expect it to be very intense and very difficult, but we are very motivated and we are going there to win." Espanyol and Barcelona drew 0-0 in last season's meeting at Cornella - the first between the two sides at the former's new stadium. That result gave Real Madrid hope of catching their biggest rivals in the run-in, but Barca held on to win a second consecutive Primera Division title under Pep Guardiola. Espanyol were fighting to stay up at the time, but Mauricio Pochettino's side are currently in fourth place following a hugely impressive start to the current campaign. "They have improved in a lot of things," Valdes said. "They pressure really well, and they improved a lot tactically. "They play good football - much better than before." And Valdes says the hostile atmosphere at Cornella will represent an extra motivation for the Barcelona players. "I'm expecting an intense atmosphere - it will be a special game to play in," he said. "When you go to an intense ground, it's an extra motivation to keep going and to win the game." With 15 rounds of the Primera Division completed, Barca lead the table with 40 points, two more than fierce rivals Madrid. Meanwhile, Guardiola's side are set to face Arsenal in the last 16 of the Champions League after today's draw in Switzerland. Barca beat Arsene Wenger's side 6-3 on aggregate in the quarter-finals of last season's competition, with Lionel Messi memorably scoring four in the second leg at the Nou Camp. Messi was spotted Christmas shopping in Milan with his family earlier this week, but was back training with Barca ahead of tomorrow's game against Espanyol. The Argentina winger, who scored a late penalty to win the last ever meeting between the two sides at Espanyol's former ground Montjuic two years ago, has scored an incredible 17 goals in the league this term. Espanyol coach Mauricio Pochettino says his compatriot is the best player in the world and believes Barca to be one of the greatest sides in the history of the game. "Messi is the best at the moment, just like (Diego) Maradona and Pele were in their day," he said. "And Barca, statistically, are one of the best two or three teams in history - perhaps even the best." Ivan de la Pena, Ernesto Galan and Felipe Mattioni remain sidelined for Espanyol, while Manu Molina and Javi Lopez are doubtful. Gabi Milito and Jeffren Suarez are both doubtful for Barca.
  5. Madrid has drawn Olympique Lyon in the round of 16 of the Champions League. The first leg will be away on Feb. 16 and the second is at the Bernabéu on March 10.
  6. Pipita has tweeted that he’s happy because he’s recovering nicely, and feeling better. Buenos dias!!! Como estan ? Espero q bien. Yo contento q la evolucion va en buen camino y me siento mejor. Bueno q tengas un gran dia.
  7. Top ref claims Ronaldo cheats Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo has been lambasted by a top official for always trying to con referees. Claus Bo Larsen, who took charge of his final European game this week between Ajax and AC Milan, officiated in the 2008/09 Champions League semi-final first leg between Manchester United and Arsenal which ended 1-0 in United's favour. He told the Daily Mirror that then United star Ronaldo is the "most irritating player" he has handled during his 14-year career and because the Portuguese is "always out to get a cheap free-kick, especially at home." "We tended to talk in the referee's room before games about how he would go down easily. We know not to be biased, but we have to be prepared," he was quoted in the Daily Mirror as saying. "He has a clean slate at the start of every game. When he would lie down after failing to win a free-kick, he would smile at me because he knew I didn't fall for his stunts." The Danish referee had kinder words for United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, although he did admit that the fiery Scot can be unpredictable at times. "I have a good relationship with Ferguson, even though he is always screaming and shouting at referees," he said. "I'll never forget him coming to hammer on my dressing-room door after a Champions League game at Old Trafford. He simply said: 'That was the best refereeing performance in many years.' It was great." Bo Larsen has been FIFA-listed referee since 1996 and is classified as a FIFA Top Class Referee.
  8. "There's a great atmosphere on this team" Casillas: "We must be prudent and respect Lyon" Realmadrid.com Iker Casillas handed out presents to more than 500 needy children on Friday in collaboration with the Clinica Menorca Foundation. The Madridista captain managed to find time to discuss current events surrounding the team, including the recent Champions League draw. "Lyon are a serious opponent who we have to respect, especially after last year when everyone thought Real Madrid were going to go through to the quarterfinals, which wasn't the case. We've got past experience, albeit bad, but now we must be prudent and respect Lyon." "We are looking forward to Lyon because they eliminated us last year, but we don't feel a sense of revenge as if it was a life or death matter. It is an important match for us if we are to overcome that hurdle, but we must respect our opponent as eliminated us last year although they may have appeared to be the weaker side." "There are people who try to create controversy and a bad atmosphere within the team when in fact it is just the opposite. Cristiano and I get along very well. We come from different places, but it doesn't mean we are distant or have confrontations. Quite the opposite. There are no groups or clicks here. There is a great atmosphere. We are a young group and we get along. There are good vibes all around. We must move on and not be concerned about such stupidities." "We have plenty of players to step in on defense. Albiol can play as a center back or right back, Arbeloa can play on either side... We are not at all worried about Sunday." "Sergio and I had lunch with the top brass on Thursday to discuss how the season is unfolding. It's good that the president sits down with the captains every so often to hear our side of things and to see how things are going."

Mourinho rejoins race for unsettled £12 million Liverpool ace Liverpool - Glen Johnson could become Sergio Ramos' replacement Real Madrid have rejoined Juventus and Tottenham in the race to sign Liverpool right back Glen Johnson after Jose Mourinho fell out with Sergio Ramos, according to Marca. The Spanish daily have revealed the Madrid pair fell out in the aftermath of their 5-0 humiliation against Barcelona, when Mourinho wanted to be the only one to speak to the press. However, his vice-captain felt it necessary to apologise for a late red card after a tackle on Lionel Messi, angering his manager who wanted his players to keep quite for 48 hours. With ‘the Special One’ keen to continue his Real revolution, Johnson is now back on his radar despite a poor start to the season with Liverpool. Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson criticised the former West Ham man after a string of less than impressive performances and Johnson is now unsettled at Anfield. With rumours of Madrid’s interest earlier on this year surfacing, he then took the decision to start learning to speak Spanish, prompting even more speculation. And with news that Rod Fanni’s proposed move to Marseille has fallen through, Liverpool are prepared to cash in on their defender and bring the Frenchman to Anfield in a cut price deal.

Messi: Moratti is a good person Reigning World Player Of The Year Lionel Messi has showered praise on Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti. The Barcelona wizard, who was in Milan in conjunction with an event organized by Dolce & Gabbana, gave his take on newspapers linking him to the European champions. "At the moment I'm not thinking about Inter," the 23-year-old stated to Sky Sport 24. "Moratti? I like his compliments - he is a great president and a very good person." It has been an open secret that Inter patron Moratti views Messi as his fantasy signing but the player himself has stopped short of speculating on any possible switch to Italy.

  14. City ready for €100m Iniesta raid Manchester City are lining up their most audacious bid yet - this time for Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta. The cash-rich Premier League club is ready for another major shopping spree during the January transfer window. While there is no questioning their ambition, City's latest transfer target will certainly raise plenty of eyebrows. According to reports in Spain, the Eastland club are ready to make one of the most ambitious bid in recent times - this time with a massive €100 million offer for Iniesta. A representative of City was quoted as saying by Spanish sports daily Marca: "Iniesta has had a great year and has come through the Barcelona youth system, but this does not mean that the Catalan club do not consider a good offer." The 26-year-old, who has turned into one of the best midfielders in the world since rising through the Barcelona youth ranks, is known to be fiercely loyal to the Catalan club. Hardly involved in any transfer speculation in his career, Iniesta's allegiance to the Spanish giants has discouraged clubs from even contemplating a bid for him. Not Manchester City. The Citizens' emergence as the world's richest club has seen them signed top players nearly at will, with both clubs and players unable to resist their astronomical offer and salary packages. Despite boasting of players like David Silva, Mario Balotelli and Yaya Toure in their ranks, City are not contented as they look to further boost their squad for the assault on the Premier League title. The imminent departure of want-away captain Carlos Tevez have also given manager Roberto Mancini another reason to splurge. It remains to be seen if City can complete one of the most ambitious transfer coups in recent times by bringing Iniesta to Eastlands. But they usually get their man.
  15. Diarra hints on Real Madrid exit Real Madrid's Lassana Diarra has hinted on a possible move out of the club with Manchester United and Tottenham put on alert. The French international has seen limited first team action under manager Jose Mourinho at the Santiago Bernabeu. Despite recently enjoying a run of games, the midfielder understands that his days with the Spanish giants are numbered. The former Portsmouth, Arsenal and Chelsea player has now issued a 'come and get me' plea to the Premier League as he seeks to revive his career. He was quoted as saying in talkSPORT: "I'm playing and we will have to see what happens with my future. I am focused on the next game, what happens next, God will tell. "I'm at Real Madrid, I have a contract with Real Madrid and I hope to play for Real Madrid, but I am a football player, everyone knows me, the directors ... I can talk to anyone." And according to the report, United and Tottenham are keen acquiring his services. Sir Alex Ferguson is looking strengthen his midfield at Old Trafford while Spurs manager Harry Redknapp wants to reinforce his squad for both the Premier League and Champions League campaign.
  16. Real eye Dortmund's Barrios Real Madrid are reportedly looking to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Lucas Barrios in the January transfer window. Barrios has been a key player in Dortmund's stunning season in the Bundesliga - scoring eight goals. Dortmund have lost only one of their 16 games in the league so far - drawing one and winning the rest in their march to the top of the table. They are currently an astonishing 11 points ahead of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen and 17 points clear of defending champions Bayern Munich. Real are known to be interested in signing a striker to make up for the injury to Gonzalo Higuain as well as the patchy form of Karim Benzema. Spanish publication Marca reports that Jose Mourinho has turned his attention to the Paraguayan after being thwarted in attempts to sign Wolfsburg's Edi Dzeko and Werder Bremen's Hugo Almeida.
  17. And ending with Sylvie… In this article with The Mirror, Sylvie talks about her fight with cancer. I love the parts where she talks about Rafa’s support, so here are those parts (but the entire article is worth a read, if you have time). He’s the ideal husband, no? On waking up after surgery to remove the lump in her breast: My husband took my hand and simply said, “It wasn’t good.” Then the surgeon said, “I’m so happy you were so persistent. It’s cancer.” I felt a gnawing fear. Rafael told me, “It will all be good. We will fight this. We will survive this.” On Rafa’s reaction to her loss of hair: He took me in his arms. I asked him, “Will you find me attractive when I lose my hair?” He said, “For me you are always the most beautiful woman in the world.” On Rafa’s reaction when he saw her bald for the first time: I asked Rafael if he wanted to see me without hair. He said, “Of course, I love you for who you are.” As she stood, bald, before him he told her: “You’re beautiful.” On Damian’s reaction when her hair started growing back: It became very emotional for me when Damian stood before me and he gently stroked my head and asked me, “Beautiful hair Mummy, are you happy now?” I told him, “Mummy is so happy with short hair.” On her new short hair: I was at home without a wig and my husband told me, “You know what, Sylvie, I just love your short hair. I think you look way more beautiful than with your wig on. You should put wax in it.” So he took his wax out of his wash bag, stood behind me in front of the mirror and did my hair. That was one of the most romantic things he has ever done for me. I looked at myself and I thought, “You’re right.” Here’s fabulous Sylvie and her fabulous hair earlier this month. I love the way it’s styled on the left!
  18. Real to offer Clichy-Benzema swop? Real Madrid are weighing up a swap deal offer for Arsenal's Gael Clichy with Karim Benzema going the other way. The Daily Mirror reports that Real are ready to cut their losses on the £30million signing from Lyon in a bid to strengthen the team's defensive shortcomings. Jose Mourinho's fantastic start to life at the Bernabeu this season was overshadowed last month's 5-0 mauling to bitter rivals Barcelona. The result has pressed Mourinho into a move for fresh faces in the January transfer window. According to the Mirror, Arsenal value Clichy in the £20million bracket but it is believed Real could land the player for less given the Frenchman's indifferent form this season as well as the emergence of England new-boy Kieran Gibbs in the same position. Clichy was culpable for the goal which handed Manchester United a 1-0 victory over Arsenal at the weekend which cost the Gunners top spot in the Premier League table. Benzema has scored just one in the league for Madrid so far, although a Champions League hat-trick against Auxerre a week ago showed the striker still has an eye for goal.

  23. "Khedira is a shining example" Former Germany international Matthias Sammer has lavished praise on Real Madrid's Sami Khedira for being an excellent role model. The technical director of the DFB (German Football Association) believes that the 23-year-old is a shining example for youngsters looking to make the grade in the highest level of football. "German football can only be very proud of him. When I see him playing it warms my heart. He is already a role model for our youth international players," Sammer told Sport Bild in an interview. "In his career so far, he has shown the younger generation that anything is possible with diligence and modesty." Khedira signed for Real from Bundesliga outfit VfB Stuttgart this season after a highly impressive World Cup tournament with Germany in South Africa and the young midfielder has already racked up 17 caps for the three time world champions.
